The outside of Norman Mansion was as foreboding as the tales Jayna had been telling him about it.

It had a regal, colonial appearance to it, what with the old white paint having rubbed off and faded to show the ugly, old brown wood beneath it. The entrance was framed with large pillars that weren't too common in the modern day, and the wrap-around porch was broken in places to suggest that anyone that walked on it would end up underneath the building. The pitch black front door was the eeriest part, Milo remarked to himself, as he closed the SUV's passenger door and began unloading some of the tech equipment. They took three cars to every location. Jayna, Jess, Steven and himself all took the large black SUV with the tech equipment in it. Cynthia and Noah always were in charge of the white SUV with the camera stuff. Nick and Kaylin brought the covered truck with all of the tables and chairs in the back. They had considered consolidating to only two cars, but no one particularly enjoyed riding with Nick and Kaylin. The two were okay when on set, but they were a little too affectionate elsewhere.

The others had arrived before them, seeing as Jess had forgotten to grab food for the cat that was currently sleeping on top of the laptop bag in the trunk of the car and they'd had to turn around. Naturally, Milo's feelings for Jess had caused him to order Steven to turn the car around and take them back. He knew the cat could make it through the night, but it was something Jess was genuinely concerned about and Milo hated to see her upset. Although the cat technically belonged to Cynthia, Milo liked to have him along for the ride with the tech and research crew because he was like their little mascot. "Mascat" is what Milo had deemed him.

Milo was pleased to see, as they passed the other cars, that Cynthia had likely gotten Nick under control for once and managed to get him to help unpack and get things inside before dark. The sun was rapidly setting, and they needed to set everything up before the evening was upon them.

There was a lot of excitement in the air. Season 1 had gone so well that the others just knew if they got this beginning episode right... they'd be big. Even as the four friends pushed the front door open and looked inside of the dark, desolate mansion they couldn't help but smile in anticipation. Nick and Kaylin had already set up the large white party tables in the foyer of the mansion. On both sides of the large room were giant, elegant staircases that led up to the second floor of the house. A balcony went between them and an eerie statue of a strange woman stared down at Milo from the center of it. He shivered, entering the house with the others and gently setting down the equipment he had grabbed on the nearest white table. Their first job was to sort everything out, including the computers, the cords, the cameras, the lights, the batteries, the microphones, the bluetooth devices, the EMF readers, the lenses and much more. After everyone got everything sorted, they needed to consult the map and decide on a central location to make up the 'home base' where the tech crew and the researchers would spend most of their time camping and watching for strange activity. The researchers really weren't of much use during filming other than to answer any questions the rest of the crew might have about anomalies. They were a lot of help with reviewing the footage, however, and sometimes caught things Milo and Jess did not.

Milo cast a look over at his partner and sighed. He personally believed that Jess could have been a great host for the show, if that was what she had wanted to do. She was definitely as pretty as Kaylin, if not prettier. At least he thought so. He looked down at the equipment in front of him with a content look on his face and began to get it all set up.

There had been a huge power struggle upon arrival at Norman.

Nick had his usual argument with Cynthia that lasted about ten minutes and ended with him having to go off with his girlfriend and have her talk him down from his irritation. In that time, Cynthia and Noah had unloaded the SUV and the truck, rather unhappily. Nick returned in time to see that there was really nothing to do, which naturally calmed him down even more. He wasn't allowed to touch the equipment--it was something everyone had ruled with him because he had a tendency to screw around with it and break it. He was allowed to set up his own bluetooth device, though. While the others were arriving, he was busy unwinding the devices from their tangled cords and making a mess of the equipment on the table. He cringed inwardly, knowing that Cynthia and Milo would probably pick on him for it. In fact, Jess managed to get mad at him whenever he messed up her organization as well. She herself wasn't fun to deal with, either.

Sliding the liberated earpiece onto his ear, he picked up a mirror on the table and began attempting to hide it with his spiky hair. It was a little distracting when it was in plain view, or so he had heard from the viewers. Plus he didn't like how weird it made him look. "Sebastian Beckett" was not weird. He was a heart throb. He was a sex icon. He had nice hair and a nice body and pretty eyes and he was tall and he was brave. That is the person people wanted to see on camera. What they didn't know was that "Sebastian" was actually just plain old Nick; Nick with the too-pale skin, the too-thin body, the too-clumsy way of fumbling around, the too-irritating personality, and the Nick that was cheating on his girlfriend of over a year with another member of the crew. On camera, he was a role model. Off camera, he was a little bit of a mess. The people that watched the show sometimes heard the way that the rest of the crew spoke with Nick--teasing him and making good comebacks to his insults. They were shown infrequently enough to be playful and funny, but what the viewers didn't see was that Nick was so painfully annoying and overly sarcastic that the only way the rest of the crew could stand him was to tease him. He always put himself on this high throne just because he was the male lead of the show, but the others wished he would just step down and realize he probably does the least work of all of the crew. If their entire show didn't ride on the fact people found him attractive, then they would probably have booted him off ages ago.

Alas, they'd gotten used to having him around and it was expected by everyone to be pestered by Nick. Finally finished with his ear piece, he strolled over to Kaylin and wrapped his arms around her from behind, kissing her cheek gently. His eyes flashed past Jayna without falling on her for fear of the guilt he would feel. He loved Kaylin so much, but he just couldn't figure out his feelings when Jayna came into the picture. "Hey, babe," he muttered under his breath, examining everyone around the room. "Ready to be famous?"

totally intrigued by the mansion's appearance, cynthia was leaning forward & staring out the windshield at the huge estate as noah drove up to it, following the truck the two hosts were in. they were so many decrepit looking details on every inch of the outside walls of the mansion, she had no time to take them all in. her eyes followed to wrap-around porch to the door, which really looked like a pit leading inside because it was so black. the rustling of equipment snapped cynthia out of her staring episode, & turned around to make sure nothing had shifted around too much. "looks like we're in for a treat." cynthia said, a hint of doubt in her voice as she faced out the windshield again. puzzled as to why the others behind them had turned around, she raised her eyebrow but didn't say anything, confident they would be back & nothing had happened already. they parked along the side of the house, and cynthia got out, reporting straight to the trunk and pulling out her camera, not bothering noah's stuff. she also grabbed a couple tripods, a few miscellaneous cords & what not, but stood & waited for noah to go inside first. cynthia observed nick doing nothing but gawking around with kaylin, and she rolled her eyes. "y'know, we could easily leave everything up to you to figure out & set up, and watch this show fail because of it.", she snapped at him, feeling proud she could actually use that against him & say she did alot of work. she bickered with nick some more, until he finally stormed off & she got her satisfaction. peering inside the door to see the others & noah already setting up, she carefully dropped the tripods & her camera beside a stairwell, but not looking up the stairwell, in fear of scaring herself before they even started. she began untangling cords, but couldnt help herself, & started looking up the stairwell. it seemed like anything from your worst nightmare could be up there, and she shuddered, stepping closer to the group of her friends near the middle of the room.

feeling like she was causing the other 3 friends in the suv to miss out on the mansion already, jessie pleaded for them to turn around & grab the cat food she had forgot to bring. well, technically cynthia did, but she wasn't the most responsible person, and jess brought it upon herself to remember. "you guys? the cat won't be able to eat tonight. that's a little unfair."she said, her motherly demeanor already showing. "it's not like it can feed itself!" she said, a little surprised when someone said it could go a night without eating. getting her way this tim, they turned around & went to get the blessed cat food. as they came back, they were still the first ones to make it into the mansion, and jess watched the two "children" (or so she called them) get into it again. with two bags of equipment in her hands & voodoo trailing behind her, she was the first one of the four to bust through the mansion door. on overwhelming musty smell flooded her nostrils, and she coughed a little bit. after nick had got over himself & brought in the foldable tables, she immediately started unpacking everything out of the good amount of preffesional looking black bags everything was stored in. she took out the laptops first, seeing it important to get those up & running for tonight, it was getting dark quickly. oblivious to milo glancing at her, she dropped a wireless laptop mouse, gasping & looking around to see if anyone saw, & she reluctantly picked it up. all she saw was people fumbling through equipment, and nick in his usual place of being all over kaylin.

Sometimes, Steven really wished that the show was just him. Doing everything. The crew was like family to him, they really were, but, honestly- they annoyed the bejesus out of him. First off was the need for three cars, then the constant hurrying. It didn't exactly help that Steven had declared himself timekeeper about halfway through the first season of the show, and took the job extremely seriously. He pulled the sleeve of his button-up back to his elbow, then frowned as the bare skin of his wrist appeared. No very expensive Rolex watch to be seen. His parents were going to kill him. He quickly shook his sleeve back over his hand.

xxx"Okay, guys, does anyone know what time it is- Nick get away from the equipment!" Steven hurried over to Nicholas, looking remarkably frazzled, and flapped at him with his hands. "God. Guys, seriously, I lost my watch somewhere back on the road, and we have a schedule to keep to!" The schedule in question was stored neatly in Steven's iPhone, and he looked at it now before going off and muttering. He needed to explore, preferably with Doo, but he couldn't find the cat. "Second job!" he held up his index and middle finger as if to illustrate his words, "Second job is we need to find a proper area for home base. Who wants to come with me? Cynthia?" He allowed a little bit of hope to creep into his voice, but made sure to look around the room as if he just totally said the first name that came to his head.

Kaylin and Nick were being disgustingly affectionate, and he took two steps up the stairs, backwards. "I'm leaving! Going by myself! If I die it'll be on your shoulders!" It was no secret that Steven was clingy- refused to go anywhere without someone accompanying him. Even if it was the cat, who he was really starting to miss. "And has anyone seen Voodoo?"

Kaylin had done what she normally did when Nick had argued with Cynthia- she insulted both of them until it got a smile back on her boyfriend's face. She'd drove all the way to the house, which took it out of her, and she tried to hide her yawn behind her hand as she took her Bluetooth earpiece from one of the techies and fixed it carefully, moving her jaw so she knew the piece wouldn't be knocked loose.

xxxSteven was running around like a headless chicken, as per usual, but everyone else seemed to be working well. Kaylin helped for a bit with the monitors and the tables, but technology wasn't exactly her forte so she ended up messing around with Nick, as usual. She dug her elbow into his stomach as he got all up on her, acting affectionate as usual. "We're already famous, Ian." Her favourite hobby was calling Nick by his nickname, which she knew annoyed him. Actually, she knew everything that annoyed him. Being someone's co-host for two years, girlfriend for one, meant you could read a person. "We're not all as egoistical as you, honey." She looked up at him with a smile, pecked the side of his jaw, and ducked out of his arms. "Guys, are we not going to talk about how great this is?" The heels of her boots made clacking noises on the marble as she walked towards the center of the room. "Just imagine it, aye? This place is huge, we could... we could make an entire season out of this! Actually, no, we couldn't, but just imagine it!" It was common knowledge that this stuff- 'this stuff' being spirits, ghosts, the 'otherworld' in general- was the only thing that Kaylin was ever serious about. She got a strange excited gleam in her eye that never happened otherwise, and she could talk about it for hours. It was good the company she was in was so fascinated too, she supposed.
She sat down on one of the long tables, beside Steven's laptop. She even placed her hand on top of it, saying as Steven was at the other side of the room and wouldn't be able to have an aneurysm or something if he saw her. She smiled smugly, liking the little inside joke she was sharing with herself, and shook her head at the people nearby as a warning not to let Steven know she was so close to his sacred computer.

NOAH T. KENDRICK

tagged ; jessie

noah kendrick gathered all of his equipment from the white van that he'd been driving, attempting to get as much of it as he could in one go. he didn't even need that much of it for filming as half the stuff would go towards helping the tech crew getting all the footage together. he put three different coils of wire around his left arm and picked up his camera case, tripod and case with all the different lenses in his arms. making his way into the house, the young man put down his stuff and looked around, placing his hands on his hips as he bend back and looked all the way up the staircase. this is mental... he managed a chuckle and used his right hand to push his dark grey beanie further down onto his head so that his blonde hair still stuck out in random directions. after having a good look at the cracked walls and all other details, noah plugged his headphones into his ipod and put his playlist on shuffle so he could listen to some music as he set up, but looking around at the other teammates it didn't seem as though they'd found a home base just yet, considering steven was rushing around like a madman and kaylin and nick were cuddling or whatever. preferably the biggest yet least haunted room in the house they could find for the tech crew and researchers to camp out. noah was actually pretty excited to be going around the house with the reporters. season one was pretty terrifying at times, but already he could tell that season two was going to be way scarier.
noah pulled his crimson red jumper down further over his black skinny jeans and wrapped his grey hoodie around him a bit more. it was cold, but quite unsurprisingly. it was supposedly a haunted house after all, and what better was to say that with cold shivers as you entered the house? noah put in the number code on his lock of the camera case and undid the clasps holding it shut so he could get his camera out. it was big, but not huge like a normal camera you see at sports games or for television interviews or whatever else. it was a portable camera and fit nicely on noah's shoulders where he could film comfortably. it had a fitted boom microphone on the top so he wouldn't have to worry about positioning a giant pole to get good sound as well as focussing on filming. it was a good camera, and cost an awful lot out of noah's own pocket, so he was very protective of it, but there was no point in being overprotective and never using it otherwise that would be a bit of a waste of money, so noah always took every opertunity to use it. he picked up the tripod and opened it up with his right hand and pushing the legs out with his feet whilst holding the camera in his left hand. once it was fully open, noah placed the camera ontop and clicked it into place so it was safe for now. because he was so tall, standing at six foot three, the camera tripod had to be about a meter off the ground so he could reach it easily without having to crouch down all the time. noah took his ipod out of his jeans pocket and jumped another two songs until 'mr. brightside' came on. he danced about a bit on the spot by shuffling his feet and drumming his fingers on the top of the camera lightly, humming along to the tune of the song. he could see some of the crew tackling their equipment. steven still buzzing around the place. kaylin and nick still cuddling. he sighed. maybe he should go help. hey, jessie. need some help? he offerd to the girl as he made his way over to the other truck after leaving his camera and other equipment in the hallway in the corner so it was safe.

|| jayna lewis || tagged; everyone, steven ||

Pulling up to the mansion, Jayna’s whole focus was on the place itself, rather than those she was riding with. Previously to that, she’d been having a good enough time with the others. She and Steven got along well enough, seeing as they were doing the same work on the show. She didn’t mind Jess at all, and of course she and Milo were great friends. Arriving at the mansion had distracted her from everything and everyone else. The place was beautiful, and just the look of it took her breath away. The past it held, the gruesome crimes and rumored hauntings, just made it even more fascinating to her. Not only was the place stunning, but it was downright creepy. Immediately she was caught with a strong desire to go explore, but she knew that wasn’t going to happen. The had all sorts of business to accomplish before they got a chance to actually do anything…and anyway, she usually ended up getting stuck back with the tech crew. It was all good, because that was the show, but still. They parked and she slid out of the huge SUV, grinning when she felt the grass beneath her feet. The place was huge and stunning, and she could only guess at all the secrets it held. Well, perhaps she did have a bit more insight than the average person. She dug into her bag and pulled out her detailed building plans of the mansion, inspecting them with a careful eye. The plans were a bit more complicated than she was used to, but it was a huge building. She figured they would tape segments in the ‘creepier’ places in the mansion—the basement and highest level, for example—although she knew the show would mostly be focused on trying to find the entrance to the secret room where the man supposedly kept all the girls he kidnapped. It would be both completely eerie and also extremely exciting, she predicted. It probably would be their highest-rated episode yet.

Jayna ran a hand though her dark auburn pony-tail, trying to detangle some of the more stubborn strands. Her hair had a tendency to tangle up obnoxiously whenever the temperature got slightly higher or slightly lower than room-temperature. It was quite annoying. Her dark eyes flickered around, taking in everybody in the crew. She could still remember back when the show started, when she could barely talk to any of them. Jayna’d always been a shy girl, but she’d hoped that the show would both help her get a bit more outgoing and also provide lots of excitement. Thusfar, it had done both. She considered herself pretty good friends with almost everyone on the crew. She smiled fondly when she noticed Cynthia and Nick bickering not far from where she stood, looking at the floor plans. As per usual her breath caught when she saw Nick, her heart fluttering in her chest. Not only was he truly a great guy—even if the rest of the crew didn’t usually see it—but he was absolutely gorgeous. Honestly, she wished she could spend the entirety of her time with him. That was never going to happen, though. Jayna looked away, biting her lip. She didn’t even know what she could label their relationship. He was a friend…but he was so much more. As she watched, he stormed away from Cynthia and found his way to Kaitlyn. A familiar mixture of emotions stabbed at her—jealously, but a great deal of guilt, too. She knew that he was with Kaitlyn, and she knew that being with him at all was wrong. She knew exactly what it would do to Kaitlyn, if she knew that Nick and Jayna’s relationship wasn’t quite platonic. Well, she knew what it would do to herself, if she found out her steady boyfriend was cheating. With a heavy sigh, Jayna looked away, begging the world for a distraction.

And she found one quite quickly. Steven was ranting about needing to find a home base, and it sounded like a job she could surely help with. Jayna pushed away her doubt and guilt and envy quite easily, forcing herself to smile. She bounded over to Steven, giddiness replacing the negative emotions as she realized this could be her opportunity to do a bit of exploring. He’d suggested Cynthia go with him, but she had her blueprints…and she felt she had to get away from the happy couple. She approached her partner, holding the floor plans in one hand and sticking the other into her pocket. She glanced up at the mansion, which looked even more foreboding from up-close, and then looked at Steven.

“Mind if I join you? I’d love to get a look at the place…and, plus, I’ve kind of got an idea of where we’ll be going…”
