ARIELLA DISTRICT FOUR

His whisper was intense, and Ariella saw it for what it was: a threat. A fire burned in his eyes, but whether it was hatred towards her or his determination to make it back to his sister Ariella didn't know. "We'll see."she muttered, her smile never leaving her face. It was clear he was going to be a fierce competitor who would fight till the very end, and Ariella had to watch out for him. As the capitol woman finished up, Maverick leaned over once more to whisper to Ariella. This time however, it seemed like a truce. Nodding, Ariella smiled widely at the boy saying a short "I think we can do more damage together." The girl had been sizing Maverick up, and he seemed like a good person to have on her team. They knew eachother, and obviously both were great swimmers and fishers. He was a lot more buff than her, older and taller too, but she was no doubt quicker and smarter. Hopefully the odds really would be in their favor, with a water based arena.

The cameras came closer to the pair, getting a final shot. Ariella gave an award winning smile, and blew a kiss to the cameras. Winning sponsers was Ariellas number one focus right now, and she let nothing get in her way of charming them. It seemed too short for Ariella, but the cameras left and the tributes were ushered into separate rooms in the capitol building. She sat down and waited for her parents to show, and maybe a couple close friends.

(Ahh, thank you very much. )

Maverick Seaswell

District: Four
Age: Eighteen
Currently: @ train station
Crush: N/A
With: Ariella Cod
Words: 580

Maverick nodded, and smiled. "We could. But we can discuss this later.." he stated as he grinned one last time, his deep see green eyes meeting Ariella's before the peace keepers split them into seperate rooms, for farewells. Maverick sat down, and waited for his family to come bursting through theb door. And he thought. About the hunger games. About chance of survival. And somehow this all led back to Ariella Cod, and her award winning smile. She has gotten the whole win sponsors thing down, but could she fight, that was the question. Though Mave highly doubted she couldn't and she also proved to be quite smart. They would be perfect together, maybe even a few others, but it seems as if District four has a pair of fighters this year, and that was the only thing he needed.

"Maverick!" a girl cries from outside the door, as she is being hushed. The door is heavily pushed open, and in comes a worried and distressed Seaswell family. Annabelle was the first to run in and wrap her arms around Maverick's neck. She cried and cried, as Maverick held in all of the emotions. He rubbed her back, "Its ok Anna, I promise I will be back.. " he cooed as he closed his eyes and hushed the small child. She sniffled, and looked up at him, her big blue eyes staring right into his green ones. "You promise, okay?" she demanded. Maverick smiled sadly, and nodded his head.

Maverick's brothers didn't take things too well, either, as both of them hugged him over and over. "Take care of her, okay?" he instructed them both, as they nodded, and hugged him once more. "Com'on guys, its not like I am hopeless.." he grinned as they pulled away. They both just stared at him for a long enough time. "We only have a limited time left..." Maverick reminded them as he hugged them both once more, then looked up at his parents.

His mother cried and cried as she hugged her son, and she just mumbled words that no one understood. "I love you, mom." he said as he patted her on the back, and breathed her perfume in through his nostrils. "I really, really do.." he said, making sure he didn't cry. He wouldn't want the people to think he was soft, as he needed to stand up, and be a career. Maverick moved on to his father, who only just stood there. "Just make sure you come back, Maverick. We all need ya.." he said, as they embraced in a "manly" hug. Maverick patted his father on the back, and nodded. "I will try my best.." he stated. As the peace keepers walked in, Mr. Seaswell turned around before walking out. "Try better than your best." he stated solemly before walking out. Maverick stared at the door, as the peace keepers came in once again, to usher him to the train station.

Maverick waited by the train, as the gentleman he was, for the capitol woman and Ariella. He stood with his hands behind his back. The other reason for waiting was that Ariella and himself still had some game plans to make. Maverick ran his hand through his sandy blonde locks as the wind blew all the warmth out of his body. but he would wait, for them and try to forget his farewells. Yet his father's words were still fresh in his mind.Do better than your best.

ARIELLA DISTRICT FOUR
█████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████

The first person to show up in Ariellas room was her best friend, Shelly. She had been in on her Ariellas plan of entering the games since they were little, and the pair spent countless house play fighting and talking about how they would win. Shelly was actually planning on entering next years games so they could live next to each other in the victor village. It was a short goodbye, and after some jokes and a hug, she was gone. The room was huge, and filled with a couch, fireplace and a table. Ariella briefly wondered what it had been used for before the reaping before her thoughts wandered over to Maverick. Ariella couldn't think of how his sister was handling the news, and could practically hear the screams in her head. This was one ofthe times Ariella was glad she only had a few really close people in her life.

It seemed to take a while for the big wooden doors to open again, and Ariella thought for a brief second that her parents weren't coming. She was doing this for them! How dare they not show up? Her feelings of hatred and betray melted when the door swung open, revealing her smiling father and shaky looking mother. It was unusual to see her steady mother in such a state, but the tall figure of her father brought her peace. "You ready to be rich?" Ariella said, grinning. Then, her mother rushed forward for a hug. Ariella grasped her mother tightly, feeling a lump forming in her throat. The overly confident girl was suddenly feeling the pressure of the games, and the fact that she either came home or died. "Just come home okay?" Ariella nodded, and hugged her mother one last time before her father walked over. She wrapped her arms around the tall man, a sense of belonging washing over her. The hug was shorter, but her dad had things he wanted to say. "We have been training for this your whole life, and I know this is what you want. So ill see you soon, okay?"

After some more hugging and a kiss on the cheek, Ariella bid farewell to her parents. But she wasn't worried about long goodbyes when she would be home in a month, tops. Before leaving the room, her dad called out to her, using his special nickname for her. "Ariel." He said, "Remember, only one person comes home. " and then he was gone. What weird parting words. Did he mean Maverick? Of course she knew they both couldn't come home, but you couldn't expect a physically weaker girl to survive alone in some mutated landscape for a week. The boy would be a threat later on, but for now it seemed they should stick together. The peacekeepers came into the room and grabbed Ariella by the arms, practically dragging her out of the room. "Hey boys, watch it!" She snapped. "Isn't there a rule against damaging the tributes before the games?" They ignored her protests of course, before letting to of her when they were again outside. Only this time, they were at a train station. The sight of Maverick waiting for her made the words pop into her head: 'Only one person comes home.' Ariella shook it off and smiled widely at the boy, a little wave accompanying it. "Shall we?" She asked him, entering the large train.

It had to be bigger than her house. How it even managed to move was a surprise to Ariella, and it was stocked with everything they might need. Food, alcohol, bed rooms, showers. Anything you needed, it was guaranteed to be on the train. The poorer districts were sure to be freaking out by now, being able to eat without worrying about where their next meal would come from. The brunette turned back towards Maverick, her blue eyes still round and shiny from the shock of the huge train. "So our de-" Her words to Maverick were cut off by the sound of the capitol woman's voice. Ariella couldn't help but groan as she walked onto the train, her bright, sparkly "sea" dress nearly blinding Ariella. "Hello my dear tributes!" She said in a motherly tone of voice. Ariella didn't even know what her name was, and quite frankly, she didn't care.

Name: Crystal Hayes District 9 girl Word Count: 588

Crystal woke with a start, remembering with a sickening feeling in the pit of her stomach. Reaping Day. She knew there was a slim to chance to none that she would be chosen, but a part of her still shuddered when she imagined herself fighting in the Hunger Games. As if she could kill anyone. She felt guilty killing spiders.

She got out of bed to make breakfast for her brother and sister, Garrett and Diane. Since her mother died 5 years ago, she resumed the job her mother had had. When she went into the kitchen, she saw a note her father had left. It said how he had to go into work early, but would be home early and would walk with us to the district square. Crystal sighed, but got into making breakfast.

It didn’t take very long since they hardly had any food. All that was in the house was some stale bread and butter. She woke up her siblings and they ate in silence. Even little Diane, who loved to talk, was quiet. Crystal guessed even though they were just 10 and 5, they could sense the danger of the Reaping.

With just an hour until her father arrived home, Crystal walked into her room to wear her annual Reaping outfit: a soft pink dress that came to her knees with a white sash around her abdomen. She would love the dress if only she didn’t have to wear it for this event. She took a quick bath, pulled on her dress, and left her long wavy brown hair down, reaching all the way down her back. Ready to go, she heard her father arrive and as a family they left to go to the Reaping.
Crystal felt herself breath harder and harder the closer they got to the District 9 Square. Her heart pounded against her chest. Calm down, she told herself. You won’t get picked.

Her family parted ways at the square. She embraced each of her family members, a little longer than usual. She brushed tears from her eyes and stood in line to get her finger pricked. Stop crying, stop crying. Finally, she stood in a corral with other 15-year-olds from District 9. Crystal zoned out for much of the video from the Capitol, and then it was time.
“Ladies first!” a lady from the Capitol shrieked in her annoying accent. The crowd seemed to hold their breath as she reached into the clear glass bowl. She snatched a name and read it aloud: Crystal Hayes.

It took her a minute to realize that she was talking about her. Crystal couldn’t help; she gave a gasp that quickly turned into a sob. She knew that no one would volunteer in my place: Crystal didn’t have many friends, and no family members that were eligible. She slowly made my way to the stage, eyes down with tears streaming down her face. Now she didn’t care if anyone saw her crying, for she was going to die anyway.

On the stage, Crystal could see every single face in the crowd. She quickly spotted my family, and her stomach dropped. Her brother and sister were on the verge of a meltdown, and even her father had tears wetting his cheeks. And in that moment, Crystal vowed that she would try to win. There was a chance; she was fast, intelligent, and could learn how to wield some weapons. In that moment, Crystal promised that she would make it back to her family.

Maverick looked around at the train platform itself. It was plain and rather boring. Grey benches, grey lamp posts, grey railings. He rolled his eyes, thinking that whoever designed this place must have been a very boring person. He then diverted his attention to around him. You would think it would be bustling with people, as it was a train station to the capitol, which government officials used on a daily basis, but Maverick was alone. The boy sighed as he looked up at the sky, its pale blue never-ending, and its few swirls of clouds covered the sun. What a bland place to be. He could be back at home, getting ready to go out into the ocean with his friends. Or maybe today would be the actual day he decided t teach Beck and mason how to fish with a trident. Something, other than waiting to board a rather expensive looking train to his maybe- death.

Maverick was about to give up on his polite act and just get on the train, when Ariella came out of the building, being dragged by peace keepers. He himself just got a rather firm hold of the arm on either side, as he walked with the rather silent peacekeepers, but she was literally being dragged. Maverick was about to say something about it, but they shoved her forward, and then walked away. Maverick shook his head as he let her step on as she started talking. Maverick was about to reply when the capital woman burst through the door, her way too bright dress hurting Maverick's eyes, as she pushed him aside, and walked into the train. He glared at her over decorated back as he finally made his way into the train. "So what were you going to-" he was cut off by the capitol woman's blabber. Maverick sighed as he let her go on and think that she was so appreciated and loved.

It was very impressive, the train, like a high tech house. The capitol woman, however, just took it for granted, and looked around, as if it was the usual and kept talking. Apparently her name was Heron Bustovaic, but they were supposed to call her Hera. As in the greek god? He would never know, as she was talking way too fast for him to ask any questions. Maverick was discusted in the people of the capitol, truly. They took everything for granted, and never have to lift a finger to get what they need to survive. He would love to see them try to do some actual work one time. Maverick rolled his eyes as she started talking once again, as he looked around the train some more. It had the finest of woods, and there were so many different buttons. Maverick decided to press one, just to see what would happen, and suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a small table lifted out of the floor, revealing a plate of warm, soft, chocolate chip cookies. Maverick laughed, as he took the plate from the table, and it sunk back into the floor. "Hey Ariella, he said, interrupting the capitol lady's life story. She glared at him."Would you like a floor cookie?" he asked, as he raised the plate towards her and he flashed a bright genuine smile.
