Amber Woodland
They kept coming. The creatures dug their claws deeper into her every time she started to lose energy. Amber ran faster and faster, as they seemingly glided up to her. She took sharp turns, and kept running faster and faster, her lungs feeling as if they would simply give out. Then she saw an axe, which seemingly just popped up out of no where, but she wasn't complaining. Amber gripped the axe, and swung, decapitating one of them with a single swing. She threw the axe at the next one, landing it in the center of its face, right in between its glowing red eyes. Those feiry reds would haunt her for months to come, surely. Amber had nothing left to throw, so she resorted to her fists. She was rather good at this, as she often play-fought with the boys on her street, as that is what Amber Woodland did. She was not compatible with girls. But there were too many. You kick one in the head, two came right back at her. Finally, the creatures jumped on top of her, and Amber, helpless as they bound her wrists behind her, screamed.
Amber bolted up right, gasping for air. Her green eyes bright, and wide with fear. She fought to catch her breath as she looked to see her fists were gripped so tight against the knitted blanket, her knuckles has turned white, and her finger nails had left indents in her palms. Amber sighed, and looked over at her window, seeing the sun was barely over the horizon. She closed her eyes, and bit her lip as she swung her long legs over the side of the bed. As her feet hit the cold hard wood flooring, a shock ran though out the girls body. She stood up slowly, as her eyes struggled to open after the lack of sleep. Than again, the night before the reaping had never really been easy on her mind. Amber strode across her small room to the hallway, where she walked to the bathroom.
After washing her face, and brushing her teeth, Amber walked back to her oom, and looked around, deciding on something tpo wear. Amber being Amber, she decided on some black jeans and a tee shirt, before her mother walked in and scolded her. Apperently she was supposed to look presentable today, and she would have to wear a dress. Amber shuddered at the very thought as her mother laid out a floral short dress. Amber rolled her eyes, and threw on the dress, discusted with her appearance. She looked like such a girly girl, and she was not content with it at all. Though she wanted her mother to be happy, so she applied light makeup, and left her hair down. Amber felt too dressed up, but she did get her way with some converse sneakers, a rarity in district seven. Only worn for special occasions. Amber sighed as she walked out of the small house, not saying good bye. She walked along the usual path, picking an apple from the tree she always hung by. Some of her friends commented on her rather feminine apprearance, though she blew it of. "If my face is on television, I will look better than you.." she countered as she pushed one of them into a mud puddle. Everyone laughed, as she helped the boy back up, and laughed. He laughed along with her, shoving her into a tree. It would have hurt, if she wasn't Amber. She laughed, as she continued on with the day. After this was all over, she was planning on going out to the big oak to hang out and celebrate. But little did she know, that she would not be attending that party.
"And the female tribute for district seven.." the cheery announcer said as she twirled her hand in a glass bowl. "Amber Woodland!" She held her breath, as her deep green eyes searched for her friends, and they equally puzzled looked back at her. She was not going to the party. She was going to the hunger games. Amber gritted her teeth as she walked up to the stage, and stared into the crowd.
(sorry if there are some errors.. I am on an I Pad.)
Maverick Seaswell
Maverick lay awake in the dead of night, steam from his hot breath visible in the bone-chilling temperature of district four. Being by the water in this time of year, District four always grew cold in the hours of night. Maverick's sea green eyes stare into oblivion, as he replays the dreaded days events:
The water was rather odd that day, almost as if it was warning the people of Four, warning them that something would happen to a loved one. Maverick gripped the spear his father, and father before that possesed, as his eyes looked through the water, searching for the fish that lay just underneath the surface. A mako shark glided eerily through the salt water just a few feet away from the boy, as he grinned, and positioned his trident for attack, when the blood-curdling scream erupted not too far away. This sound scared even the shark, as it flipped its tail, and dove beneath the area where light could still exsist. Maverick's head snapped to the side, as he saw the splashes, and the dark red cloud of water. People off shore seemed to look to the beach, as a boy cried for a girl, and started running towards teh shore. Sharks. Maverick knew it was not wise to be in the water, as Makos come in schools, and there was bound to be more. He quickly struggled against the water, trying to get to shore, and once he did, he sprinted towards the man who was desperately trying to get to teh girl. He tackled the man to the ground, and held him down, barely. The man has twice the amount of strength, and panic overriding his mind. "Calm down sir! Its not safe!" Maverick barked as the man struggled against teh sand. "She's.. she's being attacked!" he cried, as yet another scream sounded, the splashing becoming less violent. Maverick looked up, and the splashing had ceased. The girl was dragged under. "DShe's gone, sir." he stated, as the man cried. "She was to be wed tomorrow. She was my love!" he screamed and punched Maverick in the chest. Losing breath, maverick doubled over, from suprize. "I could have saved her!" he screamed as he was about to let his hands fly. Some older men came and restrained the man. "Makos are strong beasts, Theo. She was gone.." they hushed., as Maverick scrambled to his feet, and dusted the sand off of his body.
Maverick ran his hands through his sandy blonde locks, as he sighed, and bit his lip. Those actions are the type of things that you think about, whether it was a good idea or not. Maybe the girl was savable, and she could have married, but maybe she wasn't and he saved the man's life. Than again, did he? Life without the one person you desire is awful hard on the mind, and he might be in more pain now than if he was eataen by the dreaded sharks. But Maverick reminded himself that the reaping was tomorrow, and he should get some rest. So he laid back down in the light blue sheets, and stared at the ceiling, hoping sleep would over come him.
When Maverick awoke again, iot was too early to get dressed, yet too late to go back to sleep. He slowly rose from the bed, and looked out at the ocean, from his window. He stared, as the waves crashed against the shore. They were rather nice waves, and with the wind, they were breaking on the outside. Perfect time to surf. Maverick pulled on some swim trunks, and grabbed his spring suit from his closet. Mornings were usually cold. He walked out of his room, and closed his door slowly, making sure to make no sound. Annabelle would surely catch him, as she is the lightest sleeper you could know. Maverick practically tip toed to the garage, where he grabbed his board, and smiled. Maverick thought about waking up his father, and maybe even his brothers, but he needed time to think, alone.
***
After coming back, Maverick felt calm, and collected. When he hung up his board, and washed out his suit, Annabelle came out, and practically interrigated the boy. Maverick only smiled and answered all the questions he was asked, as he picked her up and took her to the kitchen, where he set her on the table, and walked over to his mom, kissing her on the cheek. It was sort of ritual to do every reaping, as Maverick ran a hand through his hair once again, and sat down at the table, to enjoy a nice breakfast. After eating, he walked back to his room, and opened the door, sighing. Now he had to pick something to wear, and he was pretty sure he would be going in a tee shirt and jeans, when his mother barged in, and set down a nice pair of black pants, and a button down white shirt. Maverick laughed but nodded his head, and shooed her out of the room, before getting changed and grabbing his skate board from the corner of the room. He sighed, and walked back to the kitchen. "Bye guys. When I come home, we are going to the bon fire, right?" He asked as he hugged his mother, and father. His mother nodded, and his dad chuckled. Maverick nodded, and turned around. "Ugh you guys?" he said laughing as he leaned down for his four siblings to hug him. They all ranged from 4-10, and he couldn't live without them. "I'll see you guys there, ok?" he said as he smiled and walked to the door. Before closing it, Annabelle tugged on his pocket, and Maverick looked down at her. "You will come home tonight, right?" she said. Maverick always admiring her use of words at her age. "Of course, silly. I promise.." he grinned as he kissed her forehead, before walking out of the house, jumping off of the top step to the ground, throwing his skate board forward, and jumping out on it. On this day, Maverick learned not to make promises that he could not keep.
(sorry.. I feel like it is a little too long.. :P but I just wrote everything down xD)
