Growing up in a relatively small city, James had an average childhood. He had two sisters: Adria, two years older, and Renae, three years younger. Their mother was stay-at-home to raise the three kids, while painting on the side as both a hobby and means of income. His father was a businessman and often travelled. Because of this, James grew to be more of a momma's boy. He did fairly well in school. His areas of expertise were history and english, but math and science were his downfall. Post-graduation, he majored in English at Hamilton College. During his time there, his dad got into a car crash and, unfortunately, died. He dropped out to go back home and help his mom out for a little while. Now a few years later, with the money he received from his father's will, he owns a small place, where he lives with his two dogs.

James always knew that he wanted to be a writer. He constantly chose scratching down new ideas for stories over going to play with friends. As an adult, this is still the same case. He spends most of his time tapping away at his laptop. While his words flow beautifully on the page, he struggles to make small talk conversation. He hasn't the best social skills, but he does try to be friendly. He's a little self-conscious when it comes to his writing; constantly scrapping ideas and starting over. He struggles to finish his novels and the ones that he has completed haven't been very successful when it comes to publishing and royalties. But in the times that inspiration does spark, he becomes extremely engrossed in his writing, often failing to notice his surroundings.

He's definitely an introvert. The wall-flower. As previously mentioned, he's awkward when it comes to small talk and desperately wishes he could be a little more forward. Nonetheless, he's the kind of guy to laugh at his own lame jokes. He hopes that his words will one day will either make people smile or move them to tears. He's a hopeless romantic at heart--the cheesy kind of guy that'll shyly bring a bouquet of flowers on a date. All he knows when it comes to girls and dating are what he's read in any cliché romance novels.

--- crush: The eloping parisian

With only her dreams on her back, Rebecca Burke moved from her comfortable home in England to America. She had an idea of what she wanted to achieve, but it appeared distant and unclear. Photography had always been a hobby and traveling had been a thing or her dreams, she has a plan to take both a step further. With her two brothers: Henry who is the eldest by five years and Josh who was born three years after Rebecca and her two loving parents with buckets of expectations for their middle child, she had grown up with a full family. Life had never been easy for this young girl, being her parents only daughter and the middle child, it was a constant fight to be her best, make the best grades, be as close to perfect as the world would allow. Even trying to be perfect can't take away who you are and Rebecca has always been a little bird: pretty to look at but easy to kill. She wasn't graceful like a bird though and was even a bit awkward, always finding the best ways to embarrass herself.Often, she became lost in her drive to be flawless and found that she wasn't happy doing this. But how could she quite so far into the game? A week or so past her sixteenth birthday she decided to live her life how she wanted and began to save up her money to move to America. A mix of fear and excitement petrified the girl when she decided and returned when she was on American soil. She had hardly a plan and nativity that could attract the worst of people. And what about where she came from? Her home was her home, where she earned how to drive and had days out filled with laughter with her family and standing in a new country all alone, the idea of being anything more or less than what she was in England struck hard. England is where she is from and who she is. What could she be without that. Her values were created there and her personality was formed. She wouldn't loose her roots, no, she would not allow it.

Oscar is a very strong and independent young man. He never knew his parents since they couldn't afford to keep him. Ever since he was young he has had to be shipped from foster home to foster home, never satisfied. And the foster families never liked him either. He was a very moody kid back then, he's been shipped all over the country and more. He has never really been in one place for a long time but now he is finally old enough to break free. He isn't a very talkative person due to him not really having anyone his age to talk to that was nice enough to care about him. He is used to being tossed to the side and rejected and being an orphan his whole life has made him tough. He still wonders where his parents are and who they were but it doesn't bother him as much anymore. He is used to being alone and hates large crowds though having some people by his side is great. He has a great skill of drawing as it was really all he could do as well as read with him switching foster homes all the time. He hasn't really learned how to make friends very well either but he is ready for a new start by himself. He's already on the look out for a job, the strategic person that he is. He is also a mysterious person who takes a while to open up as he doesn't wish to be betrayed or abandoned ever again as it has happened all too many times.

"you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."

people had just returned from their yearly vacations and this was how the city welcomed them. light drizzle sprinkling over their freshly mowed lawns and the dark asphalted roads. who had the time to notice the leaves that joined the rain on the sidewalk before they were swiped of, or how the droplets fell in a perfect rhythm? new york was a busy city - something everyone knew. people didn't take a break to notice that when the cars would stop and for a moment the streets and the shops and the people would be enveloped in this white noise.. like silence just not empty. yes, it was a beautiful autumn day in new york city. if you ask me it was one of those days when you just can't do anything, when you just want to curl up next to a window with an old book in hand or just sneak back under the blankets and forget everything you had planned. but for theodora may rose this was like any other day.. except for tuesday. her tuesdays were always free.

she got up early, dressed and went to work. the cafe was not very far from her apartment at least she could walk to work. she had forgotten her umbrella at home which was nothing unusual for head-in-the-clouds theo. luckily the dribbling rain was far from enough to soak her skin, but still got herself rather wet, apparently her hands which she used to protect her hair from the rain were not waterproof. "my usual philip" she said to the barista seeing that just as always she had time to spare for a cup of coffee. she finished her coffee and tied her apron just in time as the first customer opened the door ringing the bell that hung loosely on the ceiling. mud cup was not a very famous place here in the big apple so most of its customers were regulars which made theodora's job easier since they usually ordered the same thing.

tornado it's fine just glad you could make it before we officially started. anyways, if you have any questions or anything feel free to message me or ask here or anything. we are starting now so yeah..

JAMES HYLAND
• male • 25 years old • the writer • crush: theodora may rose •
tags;; none
__________________________________________________________

It was another day--and rainy, at that. It started around two in the morning while James was still wide awake and tapping endlessly at his laptop while his friend, Oscar, was already asleep. Inspiration to write had hit around midnight and once he was in the zone, he couldn't tear himself away. He had to get his ideas down right there and then before he lost them. It wasn't until four AM that he passed out right there at the kitchen table, the illumination from the laptop screen feverishly glowing throughout the night. It didn't bother him nor did it rouse him. There had been too many similar nights before. But, regardless, sleep didn't last long and it was around eight when he woke, groggy and still exhausted. James had to blink several times to realise just where he was. Groaning, he closed the laptop before rubbing his eyes and temples. Once he was up, he could never fall back asleep. It was unfortunate. Running only on four hours sleep, he'd definitely need a coffee. But not home-made. Not when he could head down to his favourite little coffee shop and see the girl he'd been admiring from afar. God, did she make his day better, even if the extent of their exchanged words were his order and a curt, 'would you like anything else with that, sir?'. And did she have the most radiating smile and.. crap. He caught himself daydreaming like a lovestruck teenage boy. The wannabe writer shook his head to clear it before grabbing pen and paper to scrawl down a quick 'Going out for coffee. Text if you need me. -J' as a note, leaving it on the table for his still sleeping friend.

And, with that, James got changed, filled his dogs' food bowls, grabbed his phone, some cash, an umbrella, and slung his laptop case over his shoulder with, of course, his beloved laptop inside. Maybe a new wave of inspiration would hit on his way there. It didn't take too long to walk there, living only a few blocks away, and he was glad to shake off his umbrella as he stepped inside the café. He ended up settling down in a seat near an outlet so, when he pulled out his laptop and set it on the table, he could charge it as he worked. He could hardly remember what he wrote the night before, he was so tired. He could only hope that it was something he could work with. So, when the screen blinked to life, he was happy to see that good progress had been made during his writing spree.
