Foxtail Stables - Rules

Postby OutFoxed » Sat Oct 12, 2013 11:02 am

Rules:

Keep it realistic
Use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation
Use your judgement on post size.
If interactive dialog is being used, don’t fill up a whole page with fluff about how the character is waiting on the other person to respond. Make each post so someone can respond to it; this helps keep the roleplay moving forward and active. One liners will not be tolerated. Add some detail and creativity to the words. Make it flow and move the roleplay forward.

Writer’s block? Try adding some spice to the post - drama, action- this will help you become more interested in what you’re writing and shake off that WB. Tired of the same old, same old? Find something new in the world. Create it, mold it and help make it better. If you’ve tried adding detail, interacting and you still just can’t shake Writer’s Block, it’s okay to message me or whoever you’re writing with and let them know you’re stuck. We could supply ideas. Or maybe you just need a vacation. This isn’t supposed to be work, it’s supposed to be a way you can creatively escape.

Be knowledgeable about horses. While you don’t need a Master’s degree in Equine studies, having a well based idea about horses will help you do well with this roleplay. Maybe you don’t own a horse or take lessons at a stable, but you do have an interest in horses and like learning about them and this is one of the ways you get to enjoy them.
Do your research. Know the stuff you’re talking about. If you’re talking about the height of a horse and say it’s 85 inches tall, your horse knowledge would need to be updated. Horses are measured in hands which is equal to four inches. 85 inches tall would be a 21.1 hand high horse and a bit far fetched for an average sized horse. (Remember that the numbers after the decimal point only go up to 3.)

This is an open-minded roleplay.
Meaning that any views, opinions, ideas etc. are accepted and encouraged here. Diversity helps create interesting dynamics and helps expand your creativity. This means that users or characters will be accepted by everyone and there will be no tolerance in OOC or IC of bullying or discrimination; i.e. race, sexual orientation, economic status.

You must be active.
Life happens, we all understand. A message letting me know that you’re busy is fine. There aren’t slots so you won’t lose your spot if you disappear for a little while. You’re character will get moved to the Inactive slot, and if you wish to come back, jump in. If someone disappears while you are interacting with them, move on. Don’t let that stop you from continuing on the roleplay. There are always suggestions and ways to work around it.

The age range is: late teens to mid twenties.
Keep even genders.
If you join with two or more characters, at least one of them has to be a guy.

Do not post on the topic until you have received a private message letting you know to do so.
Any new rules added will be announced.
At any time, if I feel the need, I might contact you to give you warnings or advice.
You will receive private messages if you break a rule or if you’re inhibiting the roleplay in anyway.
At any time, feel free to message me with comments, questions, concerns, ideas or any reason you see fit. My inbox is always open and your message will be reviewed and responded to as quickly as possible.

To Join:

Send me your form in a message. Do not post your form on the topic.
Send me a private message with a sample of your writing. This can be from a current roleplay or something you just typed up.
If you’re writing sample isn’t horse related, explain your horse knowledge. This can be done as creatively as you want (list, quiz, experience, references, story, original song, doctorate thesis).

Form:

Create your own or use a uniform one.
Can be as detailed or simple as you want, while still including basic knowledge of your character(s).
It is not a test of your literacy, you are already have to submit a writing sample for that.

Foxtail Stables

Foxtail is a top notch facility with only the best care. From the road, a well maintained drive lined by acres of pastures opens to the glorious stables. Each stall is large with an open window front and windows in the back. Corner stalls offer multiple view points so the horses don’t feel trapped. There are multiple cross tie options situated in every stall including a ring for lead ropes. Cross ties are available to use down the aisle as well as grooming stations. Wash racks are well drained and have a hose system attached to the ceiling. The tack room is spacious, has temperature control to keep the leather in pristine condition and a security system. The feed room is well organized with multiple brands of feed and supplements. There are plenty of paddocks and acres of pastures for every turnout situation. There is a functioning hayloft that is accessible by a ladder.

With such a large facility, it's been divided into front and back. The front half houses the offices and dorms with connecting extensions to the stables and the garage. The back portion is the stables. The stables open into a center courtyard where many of the comings and goings can be seen.

At Foxtail Stables, there is an indoor ring, a covered ring and multiple outdoor rings with specific uses. Both the jumpers and hunters have jumping arenas with jump types according to the division standards. A shed is located near both rings for jump storage and arena maintenance. There is also a full dressage arena and a large multipurpose ring for general use. Two round pens, a 60’ and a 90’ are easily accessible from the barn. A hot walker is available on the premises.

The accommodations for the riders include two dorm style building, one males and one females only. A member of the Hunter team and a member of the Jumper team share the double suite dorm. Each dorm has two bedrooms, a living space, full bathroom and a simple kitchenette consisting of a small refrigerator and sink. Connecting the dormitory buildings is a large dining hall for meals and gatherings. A lounge is also provided. The house parents’ residence is also attached to both dormitories. The house parents are for security and guidance. They are friendly people who will are always willing to help out any individual. With the age range so varied, the house parents are trained to support all needs by the residence, so younger ones can feel safe and older ones stay out of trouble.

Foxtail Stables provides training programs for adults and junior riders. The stables hosts two world class adult competition teams for the hunter and the jumper divisions. They also host a junior rider club that promotes the sport through the youth. The emphasis is less on competition and more on horsemanship skills and sportsmanship. Clinics are often held for both age groups, though the older riders often help or put on the sessions for the younger group. The adult riders are often mentors and coaches for the juniors, helping each other however possible. The atmosphere is truly one of a family.

Foxtail Stables - Staff

Postby OutFoxed » Sat Oct 12, 2013 1:48 pm

Headmaster, Mrs. Honeycombe, looks over the entire Foxtail operation. Her dog, Fox, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is considered the stables’ mascot.

The head coach of the Jumping team is, Irving Wright, a reasonable and knowledgeable expert in this competitive area. He has competed all over the world for many years and came to Foxtail to help coach the next generation of inspiring athletes. He works hard and drives the team harder, pushing them to their limits but striving toward success. The whole team adores him and only wants to do their best for him. While they might grumble about the hard work and excessively long hours, the whole team would do anything for their beloved coach, who in return, does his best for the team and the stables.

The head coach of the Hunter team is, Jack Mires. He is a strict but professional trainer; working hard to improve his students, both human and equine. He does not accept excuses; expects his team to arrive on time - which is five minutes ahead of everyone else’s time, not tolerating lateness; and rarely gives out compliments. He is a hard-driving man, expecting and receiving only the best from everyone. His students arrive with the knowledge that they better put in one hundred and ten percent into everything they do. Jack has strict rules and everyone must follow them. The horses come before everyone else, always. Behind his drive for perfection and obedience, he is an expert trainer who only wants the best for his team and pushes them to achieving excellence. The team respects the coach as they know he is making them become the best athletes they can be.

The house parents consist of two couple who rotate their schedules. They are scheduled to be in the house four days a week with both couples available on Sundays. From Sunday to Wednesday, the Smiths are scheduled. Julie and Dave Smith are a wonderful couple in their fifties. They have two children of their own that have grown up and moved on with their own lives. From Thursday to Sunday, the Johnsons are scheduled. Sarah and Harvey Johnson are in their late fifties and have been loving house parents to Foxtail athletes for many years. If any rider has any problems, they are welcome to seek out any of the available house parents. During the night, the riders must be respectful and only knock on their door during an emergency. The riders are able to call, text or email the house parents whenever they need to.

Foxtail Stables - Horses

Postby OutFoxed » Mon Oct 14, 2013 12:31 pm

The Horses:

These are the other halve to the partnership. Some would say the most important, because without them, there just wouldn’t be a partnership or a sport. The horses are brought along with the individual riders or in the training program at Foxtail Stables. Most of the training horses are brought in as prospects, have proven themselves in the discipline, or ready to reach their potential. These horses are available to the riders at any time as long as their coach has approved. Riders are strongly encouraged to work and train with many horses throughout their day to increase their own skills as well as bring the horses to their best.

The rider’s horses:
These horses are brought by the rider after being approved by the coaches at Foxtail Stables. They must meet the high standards of the discipline, competitions and ultimately the coaches. The coaches help the riders train the horses to meet their greatest potential and be successful in the show ring.

The center horses:
These horses are in training and frequently ridden by the riders. Some are owned by Foxtail Stables, some are just in for training, and some are competition horses. They are always for sale, anyone interested is encouraged to talk to their coach.

Age: 6
Breed: Selle Français
Height: 17 HH
Color & Markings: Chestnut; Stripe, snip and three socks
Style & Training: Jumper; Working with 3’ fences up to 4’; Green and needs work
Personality: He’s a horse with attitude and spunk. Give him an inch and he’ll gallop off in the other direction. When he settles down and stops being opinionated, he’s got excellent drive, scope and smooth gaits.
History: Currently at Foxtails for training and to be sold.

Image
Show Name: Pistol Annie
Barn Name: Roxy
Gender: Mare
Age: 7
Breed: Trakehner
Height: 15.1 HH
Color & Markings: Black; star, coronet
Style & Training: Jumper, 4’-5’ fences; Needs work on ground manners
Personality: Delicate in looks but usually leaves the audience speechless after her blazing clear jump rounds. On the ground she’s less about the manners, fidgeting and barely focusing on the people near her. Unfortunately, she knows she’s a star and stunning, and doesn’t go out of her way to please people.
History: Was donated to the facility as her previous owners couldn’t handle her anymore and sick of her jumping out of their fences.

Image
Show Name: Miss You Know Me
Barn Name: Queenie
Gender: Mare
Age: 10
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 16 HH
Color & Markings: Fleabitten grey, snip
Style & Training: Jumper; Working up 5’ fences; Working through her head shy
Personality: A real sweetheart, she’s a pretty mover and excellent on the flat. She’s got a great show record and just keeps impressing the judges and captures the hearts of those working around her. Unfortunately she came in with a severe case of being head shy.
History: Recently changed owners and was sent to Foxtail for her head shy problem and competitions.

Image

Barn Name: Mischief
Gender: Stallion
Age: 6
Breed: Hanoverian
Height: 16.2 HH
Color & Markings: Chestnut; Blaze, four white stockings
Discipline & Training: Hunter; High Performance Working Hunter
Personality: With a name like his, people often assume that he’s trouble; which isn’t the case at all. He’s just rather curious and doesn’t have a mean bone in his large body. He was trained well from the very beginning so he’s always level headed. Unfortunately his curiosity has lead to being able to open stall doors, gates etc. so all his latches have extra security. When he does get free, he never takes off but will wonder around to see what everyone else is doing or eats the grass on the other side of the pasture fence..
History: This horse has the potential to be a great contender and was sent to Foxtail to finesse his skills.

Image

Barn Name: Mercenary
Gender: Gelding
Age: 7
Breed: KWPN
Height: 16.3 HH
Color & Markings: Bay; Star, stripe, snip, four socks

History: Accepted into the training program with the hopes to make it to higher levels.

ƒυℓℓ ηαмє ; Bishop Cade Thorn
ηιcкηαмє ; -
нσяѕє ; Shiksa Goddess & Aldebaran
∂ιѕcιρℓιηє ; English & Western
α∂נєcтινє ; The Hardworker

      ---{{. name
      Bishop Cade Thorn
Bishop's family is very religious, and they wanted to name him something that had to do with their Christian religion. They also wanted their son to have a unique name, so everyone in their small town would know his name, and would know he was a Thorn. He likes his name, since it makes him different. Most of his friends have normal names, but not Bishop.
His middle name was decided in the delivery room when he was born. His older sister actually helped pick it out, since for his parents it was a tie between Cade and Michael. His older sister, Jenna, piped up and said that she liked Cade better than Michael, because there was a "stinky boy" in her class named Michael. who else could say that is six year old sister picked out their middle name? Not many.
Thorn is his father's last name, and it is of Native American origin. He is in a long line of Native Americans so he isn't even close to pure anymore, but his great grandfathers grandfather was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Bishop also doesn't mind his last name, because when people ask for it he never has to spell it out.

      ---{{. age
      18
Bishop was born in his own home, since the hospital nearest them was an hour away. His mother went into labor in the early morning and since he was the second child her labor was much quicker than the nine hour labor she endured for his older sister Holland six year prior. Bishop was brought into the world at 11:53 a.m on June 16th, in the year of 1993. The weather that day was nice and sunny, so his mother was able to take him outside when he was just hours old. She thinks that her doing that is the reason he likes nature so much.

      ---{{. gender
      Male
Come on now, this shouldn't be too hard! Bishop looks like a guy, so he has no idea why you would mistake him for a woman. He actually finds that quite offensive.

      ---{{. description
"I just try to look good for the ladies."
Bishop is a pretty handsome young man, if you are going by the opinions of most girls he knows. This boy stands at an even six foot in height and weighs about 169 pounds, most of it being muscle. He is pretty fit from working outside all day and his body shows off every curve of muscle the boy has. His height crushed any dream he had of being a jockey.
Bishop had dark brown hair, but it usually fades to a lighter brown by the end of the summer since the sun bleaches it. He keeps it short and out of his eyes, but a little bit hangs down and touches his forehead. He keeps it short to stay cool in the summer, but it is also an unruly mess when it is too long, so the shorter style was always better for him.
Bishops eyes are a dull green, especially when he is indoors. When he is outside or in certain moods, however, his eyes turn bright green. The boy has a very oval-shaped face and a rather large nose, and his ears are on the bigger side as well. He doesn't look disproportionate, however. He had very tan skin from working out in the sun all day and he has many freckles all over his body from sun damage. He would pay the price later on in life.
Bishop's style is very simple, usually wearing jeans when he is at the barn with either a long sleeve flannel or a wife-beater. Most of his clothes are work clothes, stained with sweat and dirt and anything else imaginable because he works from sun-up to sun-down with breaks only for eating and using the restroom. When he is not on a horse, Bishop usually wears old t-shirts and jeans, or, if it's hot out he will wear mesh shorts to run around in.

      ---{{. personality
"What am I, a book? Do you really need to know this?"
If Bishop was to describe himself, he would say he is just misunderstood.
If you asked someone else to describe Bishop, they would say he is arrogant, stubborn, and rude. But that's just the bad qualities.
Bishop comes from a background where if you don't do your share of work, you don't get your share of the reward. If his father didn't think he preformed a good amount of work for the day, he wouldn't be served dinner. It was as simple as that and it made for a very disciplined boy. If he was asked to do something, he made damn sure it was done to the best of his ability. Truthfully he cares about his work.
This harsh discipline also had a negative effect on the boy, making him stubborn and arrogant. His father gave him a list of things to do every morning, and he would only do those things that his father asked. If anyone else, like a farmhand, asked him to do something, he would refuse. His motto was that he only had to listen to his father, because his dad could kick him out or beat him up for not doing what he asked. The farmhands, however, were no matched for the ripped Bishop. He had taken his attitude elsewhere in life, such as school and relationships. The only person he would go out of his way for other than his father would be a girlfriend that was wrapped around his finger.
With all of the pressures of his father, Bishop has a mean side to him. On top of that, he is very easily frustrated. When the boy gets angry or frustrated, he will lash out in violent outbursts. He will never hurt a horse or human, but he tends to break things or smash things. His range is only worsened by alcohol, which he delves into from time to time. It's just a bad habit, but its been a tougher one to break than he has thought.
Rude is also one of Bishop's not-so-good qualities. He isn't good at meeting people or being around people that are too cheery. Especially in the morning, this boy does not put up with people with high-pitched voices, or 'good morning, sunshine the earth says hello!' attitudes. His hardworking nature doesn't mix well with them and he will snap at anyone who tries to speak to him in the morning or while working. This boy thrives on conflict, if you haven't noticed.
Bishop has some good qualities about him as well. He is one of the most hardworking people you were ever meet, as long as an authority figure, like a trainer or a barn manager, asks him to do something. He will put one-hundred and ten percent into the task at hand, often giving up breaks and free time just to get the job done. He prefers to work alone, but will work in groups when the task isn't physical labor. He loves to share is ideas with people and if he does school work, he always deserves the credit when he puts work into it.
Another good trait that Bishop possesses is his loyalty. Once he makes a friend he will usually stick beside their side through thick and thin. The only things that will break his loyalty would be if they betrayed him or gotten on his nerves to the point of him lashing out. This is a good quality because he will always stay loyal to those who stay loyal to him, keeping friends around for a long time.
Bishop is one of the most humble people you will ever meet. He never thinks he deserves the credit that he gets, and will often do things and say that other people helped him just to get some of the credit away from him. Once he does something for you, he always insists that it's "no problem" or "my pleasure". He often isn't rewarded enough, but Bishop isn't in it for that.
One last quality that Bishop embodies is maturity. If he is faced with a mature situation he handles it like an experienced adult. His is never one to goof around, especially when there is work to do. Most of the time he is calm, cool and collected, making him seem much older than he actually is. He has been mistaken for as old as 25.
As you can see, Bishop has both good and bad qualities about him, but he is a loyal, mature young man.

      ---{{. little facts
"Some of these are kinda personal, don't cha think?"
Bishop hates broccoli more than anything else in the world. He would try any kind of drug if he was able to get his hands on it. He is straight but often thinks about other males, and he would be willing to experiment. He used to play the trumpet in the school band but he quit that and picked up the drums instead. His favorite color is green but you can usually see him wearing black, navy or white. He was the ring-bearer in his uncles wedding when he was 9. His biggest pet peeve is when people bite their nails. He went for a manicure with his best buddy Harvey after a dare and he secretly enjoyed it but would never tell anyone that.

      ---{{. relationships
      "I'm a pretty chill dude."
Bishop would be considered cool in a high-school setting. He would have many friends from different social groups but he would never center in on one social group to stick with. He liked it much more when he was able to get to know different people, because most of the individuals from the same clique tended to be almost the same person personality-wise. With many different clique friends, he was never bored with any of them. If you had to place Bishop in a clique, he would probably fit in with the jocks the best.
Bishop's family is pretty normal. He has a mother and father, Hanna Jane and Lenny Joshua, respectively. He also has an older sister who was born six year prior to him. She still lives on his fathers 130 acre property, but she lives in a different house with her soon-to-be fiance Derek. Bishop's uncle, his father's brother, also lives on the property with his wife Renna and two-year old daughter Larque. His uncles name is John, but everyone around him just calls him 'Bud'. This is probably due to the massive amounts of Bud Lite he drinks when he isn't working. His uncle is the chief cattle cutter on the ranch, and he gives training to two men each season in the art of cow cutting. He is a professional at it but he refuses to go compete. His father also helps him with the cattle but he is more into the business of his family farm.

      ---{{. horse
      "He's a beaut."
Bishop has been riding since he was very young. His family lived on a ranch from when he was very young and his older sister was in the saddle before she turned four. The Thorn family started their kids off as western riders, and only his older sister Holland stayed western. She is now a competitive barrel racer but prefers to go trail riding on her mare instead of competing.
Bishop was riding western just like his sister when he was little, but his mother took him to an english showjumping competition when he was six and he was fascinated by the way the horses moved and gracefully got over those very tall jumps. Bishop begged and begged to start taking english lessons and his parents finally caved, letting him start english riding when he was seven. He fell in love with jumping and showing and by the time he was eleven he was competing in local hunter shows on a small gray pony named Peanut. When he was fifteen he was winning champions at shows and he was recruited by the head trainer of a local fancy show barn, and ever since then he has been moving up to compete in the most prestigious competitions in his area.
When Bishop began competing more, his parents decided to buy him his very own horse to train with instead of leasing horses from the barn. After trying out a couple of horses Bishop settled on a gelding named Aldebaran. He is a black Hanoverian gelding that stands at 16.3 hands high. He has two white stockings on his back legs and a broken blaze on his face. He has a puppy-dog personality and loves to be petted on and given treats. When under saddle, Benny has a tendency to build while going around a course and get strung out, but him and Bishop are working on that.
