She’d walked around the Arena and managed to avoid any other encounters on her trip back to the Hecate cabin. Arcadia sighed and combed her fingers through her hair, pausing on the steps that lead to the door. She squinted against the sun, holding a hand over her eyes.
The area around the cabins was far from empty. Other campers came and went, entering and leaving their respective buildings. They milled about, chattering among themselves as they made their way to wherever they were going. Arcadia sighed, shaking her head as she turned back around to face her own cabin. She lifted a hand and pointed her index finger at the door, murmured a quick spell and then stepped inside as it swung open.
The cabin was empty inside, with the exception of her things thrown everywhere- shirts hanging off the edge of other bunks, pants laying on the floor, papers spewed in every which direction. She’d have to clean it up sometime this weekend, but at least she didn’t have anyone nagging her to do it, right? An upside. Maybe the only upside.
There were no other Hecate kids, other than her, at camp. Not yet, anyways. It was pretty lonely. She’d always preferred the quiet, but when she laid in her bunk at night in complete silence she wasn’t so sure. It seemed as though everyone at Camp Half-Blood had siblings, someone to share their worries with. Not Arcadia, though. She didn’t have anyone to tell about how she’d lost the training match, no one to pat her on the back and say she’d do better next time, that it happened to everyone. No, she was just alone, and gods damn it, she hated it.
Arcadia threw herself onto the bunk she’d claimed as hers, her groan muffled with the pillow she buried her face into. She wished she would stop whining- it really meant something when you started to get on your own nerves. Maybe a nice nap would make her not so depressing. Yes, a nap would be a good idea. She rolled over onto her side, not bothering to kick her shoes off, and pulled her knees up. She took deep breaths, letting her eyes close and willed herself to fall into a dreamless sleep.
Her muscles relaxed and she grew calmer, her worries and anxieties leaving as she started to fall asleep. It was good. Why hadn’t she thought of this bef-
The sound of two sharp knocks sounded and Arcadia jumped. She yelped as she smacked her head on the top bunk and doubled over, cradling the wound. She cringed and slowly let go, shifting off the mattress and slowly standing up. Now someone wanted to talk to her?
She let out a long sigh and looked to the door. She eyed it for a moment, beginning to doubt she had heard anything at all when there was another knock, though this one was even louder than the next. Well, then.
She dragged herself over to the door and pulled it open to find a satyr on the other side of the threshold. Silence passed over them, Arcadia waiting for him to explain himself. When he didn’t, her shoulders sagged and her expression shifted to a scowl. “Well? What do you want? What could you possibly want now of all times?” She hadn’t meant to let it sound so scornful and angry, but jeez, this guy sure had some timing.
