Kynan sat inside his car with the heat blasting. Technically, the car was shared between him and Jon, but Jon knew it was really Kai's car.
"'Go pick up your brother from swim practice, Kynan,'" he muttered to himself, mocking his mother's voice. "'Go hang out with your brother, Kynan.' As if Jon and I want to hang out with each other." Still, none of his own friends were in town, and all of Jon's friends were away or busy.
He looked over to the pool doors. This was Jon's last practice until after Christmas, and he just wanted his brother to hurry the hell up.
He banged on the horn three times.
The pool doors opened, and there was Jon, casually walking outside with his swim duffle slung over his shoulder. Despite the cold weather and Jon's wet hair, Kai's brother took a long time to walk to the car. He was made for cold weather.
By the time Jon got to the car, Kai was tempted to just drive away and leave his brother to walk the three and a half miles home. Jon tossed his duffle in the back. "Thanks for picking me up, bro."
"Whatever," Kynan said as Jon sat down. He put the car in drive and started to head home.
"Want to grab a coffee or something? On me," Jon suddenly said.
Kai rolled his eyes, but, if his brother was paying... "Sounds good. Why?"
Jon shrugged, which Kai saw out of the corner of his eye. "I'm in the mood for a hot chocolate. It makes me relax after a five thousand meter workout."
Kai turned the car around and headed for the only coffee shop in town. "Fair enough."
