History:
Laurel grew up on a small, ten-acre farm in Arkansas that had been in their family for generations. Not much farming was done there, a small herd of dairy cattle grazed in the lower pastures, and fluffy cotton plants took up the majority of the land, but most important to Laurel was the families' small band of horses. Several of them were her mothers'; a talented show jumper forced to retire from competitive riding after a back injury, who now dedicates her life to painting and teaching children to ride, and a couple were her fathers'; a local police officer who enjoyed trail riding in his spare time. Her older brother had his own horse too; a plucky little appaloosa called Inkblot. Laurel enjoyed school, and though she wants to go to university some day, her real focus in life was riding. Growing up, she always helped her mother with the lessons, and never missed an opportunity to take one of the lesson ponies for a trail ride with her father, or a race against her brother. Though she discovered early on that she really wanted to become an eventer, her parents are yet to buy her a horse of her own, largely as punishment due to an issue with kleptomania Laurel has began to develop, which has been landing her in a lot of trouble at school.
Personality:
Laurel is fun, bright, and full of energy and enthusiasm. She is friendly and open, and loves being around people, being a bit of a chatterbox, especially when someone starts talking about horses. Generally, she does quite well at school, but can be a bit of a scatterbrain, getting distracted and off-topic easily. This trait generally isn't seen when riding, as she tends to adopt a firm single-mindedness around horses. Laurel likes to read, is a romantic at heart, and is a bit of a daydreamer. She has been undergoing counseling to try and recover from kleptomania, a compulsive stealing behavior. She is frequently racked with regret about it, and doesn't like to discuss it with people.
Appearance:
Laurel has honey-brown hair, vivid green eyes and is around 4'9". She had a slender build, with lightly tanned skin and distinctive smatterings of freckles across her cheekbones and shoulders from being out in the sun a lot. She likes to dress up, always being up to date with current fashions, but still tries to avoid anything too tight or clingy, besides her jodhpurs! She has a penchant for bright lipsticks.
Horse:
'Golden Glow,' or Glow as she is called at home, is a sweet-natured palomino Morab (Morgan x Arab) mare. She stands around 15 hands 2, and is eleven years old. Though well-schooled and very friendly, she can be nervous and skittish in new situations, and a little hard to handle for the less-advanced rider. She is a solid eventing mount, very elegant and receptive in the dressage phase, but perhaps not as fast or bold as her owner would like in cross-country. She does try very hard, however, and will only ever refuse a jump if the obstacle frightens her.
