CARTER ASHFORD

ooc nothing
carter smiled as noah and sophia joined them. thank god you guys are okay! he grinned, his teeth chattering like a skeleton. car's tongue felt frozen in his mouth, making it difficult to pronounce the words and resulting in his voice sounding slurred and awkward. he didn't know if he should hug them or not.
carter wrapped his arms around himself and knelt down on the other side of hudson's head, gazing down at his friend. will he be okay? is he dead? carter thought desperately about what to do. he thought about checking for a pulse, when he noticed hud's eyes fluttering open as if he was just waking up for school on a normal day. this was not a normal day. w-we were hiking on th-the m-mountains. he told everyone, i-i have no id-idea what ha-ha-happened. o-one minute we were w-walking, the next i was u-under a pile of s-snow. carter suddenly realised what had happened. why had he not thought of this before? it was obvious. we were in an avalanche. he told his friends. it was shocking to think that both him and all of his friends were in a life-threatening situation. a freak accident that could of cost them their lives. their families would never know what happened to them. not very nice thoughts, but it was reality, even though carter did usually tend to look on the bad side of things.
hudson was slowly starting to emerge from his unconsciousness. at the moment, he seemed to be the center of attention. the number one priority to look after. but, if both sophia and noah had made it back to him and lucy unscathed then maybe the others would be fine to. carter made himself a promise that as soon as hudson was fully conscious again, he would leave lucy with him and go find the rest of his friends. they wouldn't be far, but carter had no clue how long anyone had actually been under the snow for. within fifteen minutes, they will start to deteriorate and within half an hour, most people are usually... gone. it really was a race against time. guys, what happened? he heard hudson say. carter sighed in relief, watching his breath evaporate into a cloud of steam, swirling infront of his face. his friend was awake now. the sooner they all got warm the better. i need to go find the others... he whispered, his voice feeling like sandpaper against his throat. not even sure if anybody heard him, he slowly got to his feet and set off to try and find the rest of their little group. he pulled himself up a small mound of snow, with his arms still wrapped around himself. carter's feet slipped along the crumbly snow. it felt like for every step he took, he slipped back two. finally, he got to the top. the view from the mountain was beautiful, coated in a thick layer of sparkling, untouched snow. you never would have guessed something as dangerous as an avalanche happened right here. forgetting about the view, carter got to work, his eyes scanning the blank canvas of snow for any sign of life. anything. but there was nothing. nada.

tick, tick, tick, tick... a steady yet dangerously crucial clock was counting down in jane's mind. despite the fact that she wanted to drift away again, back into the blissfully empty arms of unconsciousness, she had to beat this clock. it wasn't an option; her life was on the line. the clock then turned from a quiet ticking into a blaring alarm as she worked her way through what felt like endless mounds of white. every punch stung and every kick made her wheeze with exhaustion. she was crying out, but her voice was nothing more than a rasp that nobody would register. keep going...suck it up and keep going! relentlessly, she kept at it until she could actually see some light peeking through transparent flakes of ice. this snow is lighter. now i just have to shovel the rest of it out of my way. she tried doing her task methodically, even as every inch of her body screamed for rest and every corner of her brain longed to panic. her arms scooped up the flurry cold and soon she could roll out of the shallow little ditch she'd created. jane blinked, her deep green-blue eyes that resembled a stormy sea opening and closing. then they widened in disbelief as they opened again. the air slapped her skin and every chatter of her teeth was so forceful that it hurt. memories were coming to her in one-second flashbacks she didn't know if she'd really seen and echoes she wasn't sure if she'd really heard. but then, once she peered up ahead through the bleak sky and identified her friend carter, she knew that she wasn't imagining any of it. we were in an avalanche. i'm alive. and carter survived too. without further thought, jane willed herself to stand and immediately tumbled back onto the ground again. she didn't even feel the impact of the rocky, snowy mountain ground. no, she had stopped the clock in her head and was now wrapping her arms around her torso and pulling her legs to her chest. she remembered what the boy scouts had recommended to treat hypothermia and instantly turned even more scarlet than the cold had already made her. the first step is to...to remove all wet clothes....well, crap! that'd basically be everything i'm wearing! she would have cursed underneath her breath, but her teeth were chattering too rapidly. she might have been somewhat resistant to hormones thanks to her common interaction with idiotic boys, but part of her still refused to strip in front of carter. instead of calling to him, jane sat upright and slowly removed her arms from around herself. she waved them frantically and prayed he'd notice.

CARTER ASHFORD
location mountain → tagged everyone
ooc nothing
carter ashford had been looking over the crystalised snow for about five minutes, desperately searching for any sign of his friends. when suddenly, he could hear something behind him. the undeniable sound of snow crumpling underfoot or being pushed away. someone was over there! he immediately noticed a young girl pulling her way out of her place in the pile of snow. jane! she was waving frantically over at him. carter looked at her in shock and hurried over, slipping over himself as he repeatedly kept slipping back down the slightly sloped snow. j-jane! he grinned, pulling his own arms from himself to greet his friend, a-are you okay? he asked her. she was soaked through. carter noticed that he was as well. not good. they'll freeze up in minutes if they don't get dry, getting hypothermia. carter attempted to help his friend up and out himself. we have to get back to the others. he thought, slipping and arm under jane's own arms to help pull her up, some of t-the others a-are over there. carter managed to point a frozen finger over another little hill where carter remembered the others were tending to hudson.
double checking if jane wasn't hurt or limping, he started to move, a step at a time. the quicker we can get to the others, the faster we can build a fire and get warm. he whispered to himself, his lips still numb from the cold. it made it hard to talk, and his throat felt like sand paper.
he gradually helped himself and jane back over to the others. it took time, but at least they were there now. l-look who i found. he smiled slightly, despite the cold.
