A small smile played across my face as she said she hadn’t been paying attention. “Well, that makes two of us them,” I chuckled. One hand was drawn from within my pocket and brought to my lips, chewing on the nail of my index finger. Nail biting was kind of a bad habit and a nervous twitch for me. Always had been, probably always would be. Nothing had ever been able to break me of the stubborn old habit. I gnawed at the cuticles for a moment. I wasn’t sure what to say. At least this girl didn’t want to kill me. I’d always heard Athena kids to hold a grudge. Or maybes that was Ares? I didn’t know. I still didn’t know what to say, I was awkward around people I didn’t know well. Really quiet, although I sometimes had a sarcastic or witty comment for something but those times were few and far between.
I needed to do something, this was getting a little too awkward for my tastes. “I, uh. I’m gonna go…” I turned away from the girl, starting back in the direction I’d come. Smooth, real smooth. I kicked myself internally. Maybe the girl would follow me and ask to do combat practice or something. Not that I wanted to do combat practice, I fought with my hands and knife most of the time. Besides, Athena kids were master strategists, I would just be beaten. I allowed my hand to fall away from my mouth, instead settling for chewing on my bottom lip. I stuffed my hand back into my pocket, feeling the calming metal of my silver pocket watch.
It was a small thing and I hardly used it, but it had sentimental value to me so I kept it on my person at all times, like my jacket and necklace. I only made it a few more steps before I produced another smoke from my pocket, lighting it and taking another heavy drag. Okay, smoking was becoming a really bad problem for me too. I probably outta quit. I wasn’t sure where I planned on going or what I planned to do, maybe I could go see the new kid.
But then again maybe not, it wasn’t a good idea to have kids of the big three together at the same time. Punches were bound to be thrown, besides nobody was a particular fan of Hades kids. Most of the time we were feared and a lot of the time once someone found out we were his kids they avoided us. Not all of us and not always but most of the time. Another drag as I stopped to observed what was going on between the new kid, Nikolai and Dean as the girl walked away from their small group.
