- Settling down comfortably in his seat, Nick patiently awaited the arrival of his buddies. The first to appear was the lighthouse herself, who sat down beside him and eased her fishtail braid free of its bonds. Following this, Quinny arrived and sat down by the window. Watching in amusement as the pureblood pulled an iPod from his jacket pocket, Nick couldn't help but smirk. For quite a while he had been trying to convince the wizard to invest in the device - apparently, he had finally snapped. "Who are you listening to?" he asked, a smirk playing on his lips as he peered at the Hufflepuff. "Quinn's finally decided that I was right about Muggle music - that is, they make better music than wizards, usually. Quinny here's finally bought himself an iPod, too, handy little thing." he explained to Alice, trying to guess in his head what kind of music was on the iPod. Acoustic stuff, probably. Nick's own collection of music was a whole jumble of genres, mainly consisting of punk, rock and alternative, with the occasional indie beat and a handful of tacky pop songs. In fact, he more-than-often broke into song at the worst of times - usually empty corridors, or cramped dining halls, High School Musical style. "I got your picture, I'm comin' with you, dear Maria, count me in~" he sang playfully, pretending to play a mini air-guitar as he began singing the whole flipping song - All Time Low's finest.

- Kiara listened, though to anybody who barely knew her, they would have thought that she was ignoring Colin's rambling. Her nose was tucked away in that book of her yet again, though a very small smirk tugged on her lips at the prefect's response. He always seemed to pull odd topics into conversation - and often, they were odd, irrelevant topics. "Your mother is a very practical woman," she replied both honestly and lightly, a hint of joking in her comment. Naturally, Kiara had met Colin's mother, although that was a good few years ago, and while the woman was quite a typical pureblood, Kiara had to admit that she was very efficient and proper. She was just about to slide open the compartment door when it slammed open itself, causing her to look up from her book and frown. Standing in the door frame was Newton Ackerman, a seventh year Ravenclaw who always seemed to be as dramatic as Colin - which was definitely saying something. He'd grown a good few inches taller than her over the summer, so she was practically a shrimp in comparison to him. His sudden entrance spooked Toni, who writhed and hissed in her enclosure until Colin managed to calm her down. Instead of looking at her book, Kiara glanced between Newton and Colin, mentally trying to decide who had been more dramatic in their entrances. Next thing she knew, she was engulfed in a bone-crushing hug, courtesy of the seventh year himself. Gasping at the impact, Kiara knew better than to try and wiggle free, so she simply stood there for a long moment, trying to regain the oxygen that had been knocked out of her. When at last Newton pulled away, she saw his frog, Schrodinger, in his hand. Like Colin, he rambled, the words spilling out of his lips at a rapid speed. Unlike her companions, Kiara had always stumbled over words, despite knowing the majority of the words in the English language. "I'm fine," she replied bluntly to Newton's list of questions, laughing awkwardly as she finally managed to regain a normal breathing rate. She wasn't going to correct him, even though she really wanted to, but 'light years' was a measurement of distance rather than actual time, so therefore he had not seen her in 'two months' rather than 'light years'. She couldn't exactly squish a word in until he stopped talking, and when he did, Kiara's usually-dull eyes lit up at the aspect of new books. And not just any books - restricted section books. She didn't bother to question Newton on how he'd managed to gain access to that particular part of the library, so she simply smiled and nodded. "Well, if you're not going to continue breaking compartment doors along the way, come with us to the prefect's compartment - we get dibs on the food from the trolley, apparently."
