❝Wᴇ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴀsᴋᴇᴅ ꜰᴏʀ ᴛʜɪs. One day, we were living the life every dog should. We had families, we lived normal lives. And then one day that all changed. Animals started to attack humans. It started with a yellow labrador who mauled a four-year old to death. Then, a feral cat clawed a homless man's eyes out. The number of casualties caused by man's companions have only increased. Humans started to get the virus as well. Most humans died right away, but some became insane and attacked other humans and animals.

❝This virus was eventually labelled a national threat and animals had to be quarantined immediately. Some were sent to animal shelters and pounds to be put down. Other dogs, like us, were left abandoned in their homes in this city to die. A huge fence was built to keep us in. No dogs can get in, and no dogs can get out.

❝But we are survivors, we aren't going to succumb to the virus. We aren't meant to be trapped here forever. Food is becoming scarce, and we have to find a way out of these walls now before we are all left dead for the diseased dogs to eat. We are fighters, we are powerful hunters that will not give up as easily as the humans want us to. We will escape, and our kind will thrive.❞

The Virus

The virus is caused by a parasite that feeds off of the host's resources. It clings to the brain of the host, able to control it's actions and bodily functions at it's will. The parasite will have the host kill and eat anything it can find. The host has to eat to keep himself alive, as well at the host. If the host doesn't eat enough, then the parasite will eat the host starting from the brain. The parasite plant eggs inside of the host, and often when they bite another animal or when another animal bites the host, the egg falls inside them and will hatch and make this new creature their host. The parasite is an insect, so they can also find a host simply by crawling inside of them. As this roleplay is told from the perspective of dogs, they don't understand the true science of it. They only understand what they have observed. There are different stages to the virus which progress at different speeds depending on the size of the host.

Stage 1 is when the parasite has just made it inside the host. In this time, the parasite is looking for the brain and has not yet assumed control over the host. At this point, the host may suffer from: internal pain, cramps, dizziness, vomiting, skin irritation, and fatigue.

Stage 2 is when the parasite has just found the brain. It has not retained full control yet, and it can be removed from he host safely if it is discovered in this state. The host will have headaches and extreme hunger. The host will often eat at anything desperately, even if they cannot digest it. Hosts at this stage are still conscious and mostly under control of themselves. They can still think and feel like their normal selves for the time being.

Stage 3 is when the parasite has fully attached itself to the host and the host will lost control as it progresses through this stage. The host often becomes very hostile and aggressive, attempting to kill and eat anything. The parasite, while very hostile, isn't very strategic or intelligent, they only think about killing a target and consuming the energy from it. They are easily defeated, but they are still strong and deadly. At this point, the parasite cannot be removed without killing the host.

Stage 4 is much less common than Stage 3, as most hosts die at Stage 3. At Stage 4, the parasite reproduces and has multiple parasite inside of the host. The host now has multiple mouths to feed for, and the host put as the bottom priority. The parasites are often fed the most and the host is fed the least. Hosts in Stage 4 are often extremely skinny and physically weak but they are the most aggressive. It is also easier to catch the virus from a Stage 4 host.

The Pack

The pack is made up of strays and ex-pet dogs that are the last few to not have succmbed to the virus. The dogs are very loyal and dedicated to each other, and their desire to break free from the quarantined city and survive in the wild is what gives them the drive and desire to survive. The pack lives inside of an abandoned 8-story apartment in what was once a very poor neighborhood.

Pack Population: 16 dogs (9 males, 10 females)

    Jarl (1/1) - |Sheeva•4 years•Female•Flat-Coated Retriever•Fawkes|
The Jarl is the leader of the pack. They are the dog that the packs look up to for inspiration and leadership. They organize patrols and give ranks to dogs. The Jarl rarely leaves the main territory wh

    Second in Command (1/1) - |Kira•3 years•female•Belgian Malinois•Pineapple|
The second in command is not as high of a rank as the Jarl, but they play a similar and important role. Unlike the Jarl, the Second in Command typically roams outside of the territory. They also train young dogs and dogs recently accepted into the back and help find their place in the pack

    Patrol (3/∞) - |Roman•5 years•Male•Doberman•Fawkes|»»|Lionel•4 years•male•English Mastiff•TheCryptid|»»|Bradley•4.5 years•Male•Great Dane•Alpha_Cat|»»|Mika•4 years•Female•Tamaskan•CarleyQueen|»»|name•age•gender•breed•user|
The patrol are among the most respected and valued dogs in the pack. They roam the entire city for food and safer places to live. Their job is very dangerous, as city is plagued with infected creatures and they risk death every time they roam. Patrols often travel in pairs or in large groups for safety. The strongest dogs and the best trackers are often made patrol.

    Guards (2/∞) - |Klaus•4 years•Male•Beauceron•JackRussel|»»|name•age•gender•breed•user|
Guards stay inside or around the territory, very rarely roaming outside of it. Their tasked with protecting the pack and the territory from infected dogs or any other hostile intruders. Guards treat any strangers with hostility, as they do not want to risk the safety of the pack.

    Examiners (3/4) - |Apollo•3years•Male•Papillon•Fawkes|»»|Magnolia•?•Female•White German Shepherd•TheCryptid|»»|nora•3.1 years•Female•Collie Mix•Rosy Tea|»»|name•age•gender•breed•user|
Examiners are dogs that study and learn about the virus and those affected by it. The examiners travel with the patrol to study infected dog's behavior and to examine their dead bodies. They also look for weak points in the fence so that they can find a way to escape.

    Subordinates (2/∞) - |Quinn•3 years•Female•Alsatian mix•JackRussel|»»|Tabby•3 years•Female•Border Collie•artisticfox|»»|Azurea•2 years•Female•Shetland Sheepdog•AnAverageNoodle|»»|name•age•gender•breed•user|
Subordinates are dogs that typically stay with the territory as a backup for patrols or guards. If a patrol or guard dies, the subordinate will take over their position. They are trained for both roles, but they stay with the Jarl in the territory for safety. They are also called to defend the territory should there be an overwhelming amount of infected dogs. Subordinates also groom their packmembers and clean up the territory when they have no other tasks.

    Trainees (3/∞) - |Ferah•11 months•Female•Bull Lurcher•Fawkes|»»|Kato•5 months•Male•Alaskan Klee Kai•TheCryptid|»»|Jax•1 year•Male•Husky-Golden Retriever mix•CarleyQueen|»»|aliza•1 year•Female•Australian Shepherd•ADerpyPerson|»»|name•age•gender•breed•user|
Trainees consist of pups or dogs recently welcomed to the pack. They are taught by the second in command on how their pack works, and to see which rank they fit in best. They will also be taught by the examiners on how the virus works and how they can be safe when leaving the territory. When pups are old enough, they are allowed to roam father and farther

sheeva ‣ female ‣ 4 years ‣
flat-coated retriever ‣ homosexual ‣ jarl ‣
tagged; open ‣ location; abandoned apartment, in territory ‣
    ‣ sheeva groaned softly as she awoke slowly. she was greeted with a cold breeze from the broken window above her bed. the bed was worn out and uncomfortable, but it was better than nothing. she slowly sat up, sighing deeply as she looked at the worn out room around her. it was another day that she and the other dogs were left neglected in this wasteland. she stood on her four paws as she leaped onto the ground, hearing the floor squeak below her. she trotted out of the room, her long coat bouncing as she moved. sheeva stayed on the first floor where most of the pack was, as she wanted to be with her pack as much as she could. she padded down the stairs and into the lobby, looking at the dogs walking around and the cobwebs that gathered on the corners. this wasn't the life that her dogs should live. she knew they would escape eventually, she just had to be patient. she didn't want to die inside this fence, and she didn't want her pack to die either. they just had to think optimistically for now, as they only have each other for now.

roman ‣ male ‣ 5 years ‣
doberman ‣ bisexual ‣ patrol ‣
tagged; open ‣ location; abandoned apartment, in territory ‣
    ‣ roman padded through the complex, sniffing the air and listening through his surroundings. dobermans don't particularly like the cold, and roman especially didn't. he needed to find some sort of coat to help keep him warm. his coat wasn't meant for harsh winters, he has to find something to keep him warm or he'd die from the cold. roman was always in a warm house or wearing warm jackets given to him by his owners. but now he has none of that, now he has to look after himself and the pack. as a patrol dog, he plays a vital role in the pack. he has to be able to stay warm when he is exploring the city.

ferah ‣ female ‣ 11 months ‣
bull lurcher ‣ bisexual ‣ trainee ‣
tagged; open ‣ location; in the streets, in territory ‣
    ‣ ferah leaped out of the window, landing swiftly on the grass below her. the guard dogs were already walking off to their posts. ferah wasn't to join them, no matter how much she wanted to. her tail wagged optimistically as she looking into the cold, chicago sky. she was optimistic about the pack, she knew they'd make it out eventually. she wanted to do her part and kill infected dogs already, but she obeyed her jarl and she obediently stays within the territory.

apollo ‣ male ‣ 3 years ‣
papillon ‣ bisexual ‣ examiner ‣
tagged; open ‣ location; abandoned apartment, in territory ‣
    ‣ the small papillon sighed as he lay sadly on the steps inside the lobby. apollo was more than grateful for having found this pack, but he misses his owner and old life greatly. he wanted his owner to one day suddenly appear and take him to a new home far away from this place. apollo didn't want this life, he wanted nothing more than to go home. many dogs are angry at the humans, furious that they abandoned them and left them to die. and while apollo understands this, he doesn't blame the humans. he still believes that humans are good and kind, and they'd never abandon them without reason.

« Bradley »
▪ male ▪ 4½ years ▪ Great Dane ▪
▪ Homosexual ▪ patrol ▪ tagged;; Roman ▪

○ Bradley awoke with a jolt, he looked around quickly then let out a small huff "nightmares..." He grumbled to himself then stood up, stretching his long limbs. He let out a big yawn then looked around for someone to talk to and decided to walk around, on his walk he noticed Roman "good morning, Roman." He said in his deep voice. "How are you today?" He asked the Doberman, looking at him "pretty chilly, huh?" He asked in a mumble, mainly talking to himself 'winter is coming...' He thought then turned his attention back on Roman, waiting on the other dog to reply to him.

Kira had woken up early, she had done a full inspection of the apartment building making sure everything was running smoothly. Her tail swished side to side as she ran down the steps down to the lobby where everyone was. She sat down taking a deep breath. She looked around looking at everyone else. She wondered how everyone was doing outside. Hopefully, the humans were trying to find a cure.

Klaus - Male - 4 Years - Guard - Tagged; Open
His strained eyes were focused as he carefully roamed the derelict rooms. Shattered windows, torn curtains, and stained carpets. It was all the same. But this was home. And it was up to him to protect it. Of course, the apartment had been searched multiple times. It seemed safe. But it was foolish to assume. This was a dangerous world they lived in. And Klaus wouldn’t risk the lives of his pack just based on his own thoughts. The beauceron proceeded t9 the next room, his frame shadowing the light from the doorway as he made his way inside. A gentle scratch was detectable near the left cabinets. Klaus growled softly. Just a bite from an infected animal would be fatal. Wether or not this thing was diseased, he still had to deal with it. His paw stepped into a pile of clothing, and he moved the fabrics to reveal a rather menacing looking rat. But just by looking at it, he could tell it wasn’t infected. The default crazed eyes of the rodent were replaced with fearful ones, but Klaus didn’t give it a chance nonetheless. A vigorous shake in his jaws killed it in seconds. Now that he’d cleared a few rooms, it was time to hit his guard post outside the building.

Quinn - Female - 3 Years - Subordinate - Tagged; Sheeva
”Morning, Sheeva. Sleep well?” Quinn was soon aware of the stupidity of her question, and bit her tongue in regret of her words. Of course she hadn’t. They were living in a nightmare. And Sheeva, being the dog that took it upon herself to lead them through this was probably under twice as much pressure. Quinn moved away from the musk corner of the lobby and padded to meet the Jarl. “I’ve checked a few rooms on the fourth floor. The corridors there seem clear, though I did come across one or two rats. Seems we aren’t the only ones that took refuge here.”
