Mathias Iversen ♠︎ Human Soldier ♠︎ Tags: Royal Army Forward Camp Delta; Titus, Vrhaemar

Mathias was still frozen in his spot when he heard the great beast speak, apparently to the captain. He figured it enough, as single soldiers were rarely addressed, but... Mathias blinked. Those thoughts didn't matter now! There were two mages that had been dropped from the dragon's talons, and while he could only really aim with his good eye, the trainee's first reaction was to run for the spot where the closer one was to land. Sure there could be damage from the fast fall itself, but at the chance of at least survival the 23-year-old sprang from the earth and, using his rune wings again to shoot himself the short distance in the air, Mathias still somehow caught a hold on one of the mages. He didn't pay too much attention to the ordeal for the plain fact that even he wasn't expecting to do such a thing, and even tightly shut his eyes as his power allowed them a lighter glide down. Upon contact with the dirt, Mathias promptly fell over from a mix between the stiffness of his posture and the weight of a Mage- who he now found was unconscious and somewhat bloody, though from the rapid change of altitude or the dragon Mathias didn't know. At that moment the brunett shakily moved the Mage to lie on the grass nearby and lay down himself, running low on the adrenaline from his leap. "W-what the..." He huffed after remaining some of his breath, forcing himself not to get sick from the sudden movement.

Kokyu ♠︎ Dragon Scout ♠︎ Tags: Woodland near human city; Jessica

The young human-turned dragon's hand flitted to a blade tucked closely to his left side at the sound of footsteps. His enhanced senses helped hear the being from kilometres away, though Kokyu was still confused as to where they were coming from. If it was another dragon it would be no issue for him; same with the wildlife, he supposed, and even a human. The only issue with any of these was that Kokyu wasn't caught, which was honestly a bit likely from his stark black-and-White appearance- why had he chosen to be a scout again? At the sight of this target, and the sight that she was a human female, the man internally sighed and let down his guard.

That was his mistake. He blinked slowly at the words he was met with, and having been turned away from her before, now moved his face so he could see her. "Oh, yes... I just lost my way. You see, I am a traveler from the east and aim to make it to a fortified settlement around here. I may have stepped off from the path for a while though, and now I haven't any idea where I am." He admitted, his usual void-of-emotion face changing to one of an embarrassed shame, the ghost of a bittersweet grin on his face.

(I may not be able to reply for a while, I'm sorry!)

«—Jessica Marie|16|Human|Kokyu—»

The female smiled as she regarded the male. “Well, I’m heading into town. I can show you the way. Probably should advise you to stay on the path next time. There’s creatures out here that seek to do harm against humans.” She started walking ahead, in the direction of the town. “Mind if I ask why you are traveling by yourself? Seems rather odd that you don’t have a partner for such a journey.” Jessica was wearing a simple black dress with a thicker coat around her body, with the hood up. She hated the cold and tried to keep warm as possible.

"You haven't fought a dragon yet either," Xiao added in Ahone's direction, before smiling and bowing to the queen. Heading to the door, she getured for Ahone to follow her. "Send a message to the captains telling them I heading to their location, and saddle our horses." Xiao commanded as she flagged down two guards. As the girls nodded before scurrying off, she spun to look at the prince. "Grab your armor and weaponry and meet me at the stables. I'm leaving in fifteen minutes and if you're late you'll have to catch up." Xiao instructed, before giving him a small "shoo" wave and heading to don her amor. Strapping the lightweight material to her body came as second nature now, the finely tempered metal specially designed to not feel bulky or awkward. Two daggers on her legs, and her sword and shield on her back and she was done in record time. For any traveling purposes, a small bag was always packed by her door. Sweeping it up, the general headed to the stables where her ride awaited. The large black horse greeted her with friendliness, a parting gift from her family, one she had been warned to not get too attached to. Storking his neck, Xiao began counting down the time for the Prince's arrival.

Ahone sighed and nodded, finding some comfort from his mother's touch since he's rarely felt it since childhood. When his mom left, he looked over at the General as she gave him the short orders.

Since Xiao shooed him off, he went to what could be considered his room and stood just inside the doorway. "I don't even have any armor." He went over to his bed and snatched his dark grey cloak, fastening it loosely yet securely around his neck. "Weapons, I need some sort of weapons." After some thought Ahone's eyes trailed over to the two daggers he had gotten from the school he had gone two. He quickly got his belt that had their sheathes attached to it and put it on around his waist before sliding the daggers into their individual sheathes. "It's the best I got.."

The prince ran out of his room an down the stairs all the way to the stables. Noticing that Xiao was eyeing him, he gave her an apologetic look as he pulled himself onto the pinto horse, Calico. "I don't exactly have armor.."

Xiao pursued her lips, “When we get to camp I’ll see if anyone has some spare parts. At the very least you’ll need a breastplate.” She sighed, leaping up onto her horses back and urging him forward out of the stables. “The camp is a day’s ride from here, we’ll break when the horses are too tired to go on.” She told the prince, “We stop for no more than four hours, you can sleep and I’ll keep watch.” Xiao figured she hadn’t slept a full night in weeks, one more wouldn’t hurt. At camp once she got everything organized she figured slipping away for some shut-eye wouldn’t be too hard. “Let’s get going,” digging her heels into her horse, she urged him forward at a moderate speed.

Titus Eutherius

The Captain || Location || Royal Army Forward Camp Delta || Tagged || Mathias

The wires' metallic pings as they coiled like snakes around the dragon's tail could be heard even from the ground. It was less than ideal, but none of the soldiers on the ground missed a beat; Titus barked an order to the archers, and the slide of metal on metal filled his ears as more wire was spread among the bowmen and hooked onto their arrows. Titus watched them work, Dragonsbane pacing impatiently in place beneath him, as he waited for them to be ready.

But his concentration was interrupted by a horrible sound; the unearthly shrieking of both men and horses crying out in fear. His head snapped up, eyes scanning the sky, and he saw what he had dreaded- two of his men and their mounts, clutched in the dragon's cruel talons. And then they were falling. It was a sickening sight, for all he could do was watch, knowing full well no matter what he did, it could not possibly hope to save them.
Titus grit his teeth and averted his eyes before they hit the ground- but something made him look back. A flash of movement, a blaze of light like magical wings, and the two figures collided midair and fell together, entangled. But they fell slowly, slow enough to survive, and that was enough to bring a small smile to the captain's grim features. As the two reached the ground, he made a mental note of roughly where they had landed, and decided he would go looking for them later. But for now, he had a battle to win.

But as he scanned the skies, and turned to signal to his archers, Titus realized that he didn't have to, for the dragon was already leaving. This didn't feel like a victory so much as it did a deliberate cease-fire, but it was enough to let a wave of relief wash over him. Thank the Gods they would suffer no more casualties today. But he had spoken- or rather, thought- too soon. When Vrhaemar roared those words back at him, Titus knew he would never forget that name, just like he would never forget those eyes when they had first fixed him with that burning gaze, staring out of a twisted human face. And he would never forget the way that fiery meteor careened through the air, seeming to head right for him.

"Out of the way!" All around him, soldiers dropped what they were doing and ran for their lives. Titus followed them on horseback to make sure everyone had cleared the immediate area. One archer lagged behind, and he tugged his horse's reins to the side. Leaning far out of the saddle, he grabbed onto the bowman's outstretched hand, sweeping him up halfway into the saddle, then dug his heels into Dragonsbane's sides. The stallion galloped out of the way of the meteor in the nick of time, and everyone nearby hunkered down as a spray of dirt, shrapnel, and sparks was thrown high into the air and all around the point of impact. The rock skidded and bounced along its path, carving a deep furrow throigh the middle of the camp, and ending in a huge pileup of rubble. At the sight of the dragon's wings fading into the distance, a hoarse and ragged cheer went up from the survivors. They, at least, would live to fight another day.

After dropping off his passenger back with his squad, Titus resumed his circuit of the area. The immediate threat may have passed, but his job was nowhere near over. He directed all the healers to set up a triage area where the wounded could gather, and told his officers to send those who could still walk there. Equally important was the task of uniting the mages skilled in water magic to douse the still-burning meteors before they could burn down the rest of the camp. A few had taken the initiative to begin the task themselves, but it would go a lot faster once they had found each other and formed a collaborative group. Once he was confident that all the immediate post-battle duties would be taken care of, Titus wen to go and find whoever had saved that falling mage.

Titus and Dragonsbane found the two where they had fallen from the sky just outside the camp's outskirts. He dismounted and set his spear aside, calling over his shoulder as he did,
"Need a medic over here!" First, he knelt beside the unconscious mage to check for a pulse, giving Mathias a moment to breathe and recover. The smile on his face showed he had found the signs of life he was searching for, and he turned to look approvingly at the other soldier. He didn't recognize him on sight, though that was not unusual for someone with a sizable command that was constantly having troops cycled in and out as men were wounded, killed, and subsequently replaced. But he didn't need to know who he was to appreciate his actions. A metal gauntlet was extended as the captain offered him a hand up, and a quick word of recognition. "Good work, soldier. That man still lives thanks to you."

The prince looked down at his horse as she was pacing impatiently, ready to get going, underneath him before looking up at Xiao as she spoke about how the rest of the day would work. ”Are you sure you want to keep watch?” Ahone asked, noting how tired Xiao sounded as she spoke and the dark bags under her eyes. ”You really seem like you need the sleep..”
Watching as Xiao quickly pulled away on her horse, he did stuff [ooc: I can’t do horses so ignore that] and caught up to her, pulling back on Calico’s reins so they stayed at the same pace at Xiao and her horse.

As the dragoness approached the fire, she saw a larger, much more ancient dragon fly away from it, his voice booming across the land all the way to where Nymerra now hovered in the sky, eyes wide in both horror and surprise. Vrhaemar... as the ancient flew off, the jade dragon flew in closer to the fire to see humans hard at work restoring their camp and healing wounded. Looking around the area, her eyes landed on a giant crater in the middle of the human camp with a giant smoldering rock right in the middle of it.
Knowing better than to get too close, Nymerra stayed just out of range of the humans weapons and just watched in awe. She had never seen human elementals in action before and that’s what she was mesmerized by.

“I don’t trust you to keep watch,” Xiao told the prince honestly. “I’m used to not sleeping anyways, but thank you for the concern your highness. You’ll need to start getting used to not sleeping as well if you’re actually serious about being part of this army.” She added. The soldiers had often gone through sleep deprivation during training, and in the field sleep was often just whatever few hours you could catch between watches and work. Even then, with the threat of fire and attack at any moment, any sleep was uneasy at most. “Have you ever seen a dragon, your highness?” Xiao asked, glancing over at the prince as she steered their horses towards a more covered route. It would be a little slower, but less risky.

Ahone shook his head. “In all honesty, I haven’t seen a dragon in my live. Parts of them I have,” his free hand that wasn’t on the reins hovered close to one of his daggers. “But not actual ones.”

Looking around, he watched as trees passed as the rode by them, sometimes spotting a small squirrel or bird but only faintly since it’s hard to focus on anything stationary. At one point he tried to watch an animal but he ended up steering Calico almost off the path. He swore quietly under his breath and straightened Calico’s course back onto the path.

A short amount of time passed while the prince finally got the guts to ask Xiao what he considers a stupid question. “Why don’t you trust me to keep watch?..” His face has twisted into a worried expression and there was a slight hint of hesitation in the tone of his voice. He didn’t want to make the general mad and was quite frightened this would be what crossed the line with her.

Xiao was a little surprised the prince hadn't seen a dragon before, though she supposed a full living dragon would never be allowed that far into the city without a lot of death and destruction. When he asked her why she didn't trust him, she wondered why he looked so worried about it. "I don't know what kind of training you have, whether it's in fighting or knowing what to look for to signal dragons nearby, or even the best places to go to shield yourself from an attack. I don't know you, you don't know me. Therefore I don't trust you." she explained simply. Xiao mostly trusted only her captains and her soldiers, the lieutenants were sometimes difficult but they were still trusted advisors. "Also, I should warn you that you may not recieve a warm welcome by our troops." Xiao added, figuring she should warn the prince beforehand just in case.
