With the captain and the soldier off on the search and the moving of the camp almost done, Xiao went to the prisoners tent once again. Pushing aside the flap, she looked around to check up on the binding. It seemed a new mage had entered, he looked gray and tired, but the spell was holding strong. It would hopefully be enough to make them through the the next day, Xiao usually wasn't one for praying but she would for the rescue party's safe return in the morning, hopefully with the prince. "I regret our earlier conversation was cut short," Xiao stated to the dragon. "Though I understand you spoke to my captain."

Copil/Female/Dragon/Tags Ahone, Aldara, Moolettia, Scouts, Titus

Copil, still a little bit angry, heard the footsteps of a bunch of humans, hissing in surprise her only thought was to protect her friends, thinking that she apologised quietly while shoving both Aldara and Moolettia aggressively out of the clearing and somewhere in the woods. Preparing herself for the barrage, and wanting to keep her promise, she turned to Ahone who was still in the cave, and reached her head inside while giving her loudest roar she smiled at him while turning back towards where she could hear the footsteps of the scouts who were nearly in the clearing and roared at their direction too, just to make herself seem more aggressive.

Aldara; Female; Dragon; Tags: Moolettia//Ahone

Aldara snarled viciously, glaring at Copil. As she went to reply she heard the sound of movement and halted, glancing over her shoulder towards the sound. As Copil nudged her and Moolettia away she hissed, glaring at the said dragon. "We kidnapped the Prince," she growled, not trying to hide that she knew now. "It would be too suspicious to have no rider here, Copil you must leave." She sprang forward towards Copil, faintly hearing Moon do the same and suck in a sharp breath. Hissing she lowered her head, her throat glowing a faint purple.

Moolettia; Female; Human; Tags: Ahone//Aldara//Copil

Moolettia muttered silent words beneath her breath as Copil attempted to get rid of them, as Aldara's words echoed in her mind she nodded firmly. "Al is right, we will fight to keep our prisinor." her voice was firm and cold, taking a deep breath she reached her mind to Ahone. 'Forgive us for our actions, you know nothing of me nor I you, you can't say you know my name, but you can say we were cold and integrated you, threatening you for information, do try keep our identities low, I hope our paths meet again.... In a friendly way. ' turning her cold gaze to them she gritted her teeth. ' Copil you don't have to fight with us.. You could get hurt... ' she choose her words with caution again, forcing herself to calm down, her nerves rising, she moved to block the entrance, glancing inside at Ahone.

Akuji whipped his head around and glared at the side of the room he was on, the sound of something or somethings was moving there, slipping off to the side he crouched, watching with narrowed eyes as a small group of humans appeared and walked over to where he had been only a few seconds before, changing his scales to match his surroundings, he waited in silence.

adira "echo" frey
____________________________
assassin | the city | cain

Echo sat in silence as Cain disappeared over the wall, and then pulled herself to her feet. The voices of the guards were now very close. She could see the man in charge, who was dawdling in the main entrance. Echo managed to force her magic to work, just long enough to dodge the guard's gaze as he began walking down the alley, frowning at obvious signs of a scuffle. Before he reached her position, Echo had already climbed onto the rooftop. She hoped that she wasn't bleeding enough to leave a trail. Again, her magic fizzled out and she automatically began her escape. It looked like she would have to stealth her way out of this the hard way. She dropped into the crowd. The guardsmen seemed occupied with the alleyway, so her way was clear as long as she could avoid suspicion. A difficult task, given her rough appearance. She wove her way through the busyness of the market place, rearranging her ruined cloak and fastening it around her shoulders, decently hiding the two parallel knife marks on her back. The front gate was just ahead, and more guards with it. Echo retreated from the crowd, stepping back to make her observations. She doubted that her magic would hold up long enough to pass. Then again, the guards weren't checking individual faces. If she acted like she belonged, it shouldn't be a problem. Echo joined the crowd again, keeping her head down as they passed seamlessly through the gates. All she had to do now was find her horse.

Cain Dawson

The Freelancer || Location || City streets || Tagged || Echo

It was smooth going at first. People didn’t generally look up at the rooftops that often, too intently focused on whatever they were doing on the ground below; Cain intended to use that to his advantage, and hopefully travel uninterrupted over the tops of buildings, all the way out of the city. The buildings were close enough that he could usually leap between them, or at least leap from one rooftop onto an adjacent wall, and climb the rest of the way back up. His boots never touched the ground once.
However, it seemed his good luck had run out. At one point, when his running jump did not quite carry him all the way across a gap, someone spotted him as he clambered the last few feet up. A few civilians cried out in alarm, and then he heard the authoritative shout of a guard commanding him to get down. A few seconds later, an arrow whizzed past his head.

Cain made it up onto the rooftop and retreated from the sides, taking refuge in the center of the roof where he could not be shot from the ground to assess his options. Fighting his way out would be difficult in a crowded place like this, and he knew more guards would be on the way, so he had to run. For a second, he considered using one of his trinkets to help cover his escape, but decided it would be a waste, since he could easily evade the shots simply by making himself very hard to hit. The admittedly average city guards just weren’t good enough to land those kinds of shots. Besides, he was still a daredevil at heart. Taking the extra risk sounded like good fun to him, dangerous as it was.

Cain made a break for it, taking a flying leap onto the next roof. The shouts rose from below him again, and he heard a few near miss arrows sail past him; farther away, shots that had gone farther astray thunked loudly into the sides of buildings. Civilians screamed and ran for cover, shielding their heads from arrows. So much for escaping undetected.

The wall that surrounded the city was an imposing obstacle. Cain took the route that led him higher and higher, always jumping to a rooftop that was slightly taller than the last, making his final climb over the wall as short as possible. Finally, he could get no higher without departing the ring of buildings on the outskirts. Directly next to the adobe wall was a broad street that ringed the entire city; leaning over the edge, Cain saw oxen pulling a merchant’s cart, and people walking to their destinations. He was not far from the city gates, and most of the people seemed to be working their way there, where they bottlenecked to get through. In the distance, he could see the city guards trying to force their way through the crowd at the gate, but they were held back by the sheer number of people, buying him some time.

Cain took a deep breath. This one would be tricky. He would have to clear the entire street, then find purchase on a wall that looked utterly sheer, without so much as a brick to grip onto. Fortunately, it seemed to be some sort of adobe, or a similar material. Softer than stone and prone to crumbling, it was something he could work with.
The assassin flicked his wrists outwards, activating a mechanism in his bracers. A slender metal frame deployed itself, telescoping out into his palms and extending a thin branch down each of his fingers. Beneath his fingertips, it unsheathed a set of pointed metal claws in each hand. Cain backed up, got a running start, and then jumped.

The city blurred around him as he looked down to watch the street pass beneath. It was an extraordinarily far distance, and for a moment he started to doubt that he would make it at all - and then he slammed into the wall, hands hitting first, and he barely managed to get his legs under him in time to keep himself from smacking right into it. The climbing claws dug deep into the wall, anchoring him in place. Cain wrenched one hand back, freeing the metal points, then reached high above his hand and impaled the spikes again to create his new handhold. Then he repeated the process, doing it more quickly each time, until he was climbing steadily, graceful and catlike.

The extended fall had cost him some height, but it didn’t take Cain long to make it to the top of the wall. He perched there for a moment, crouched carefully on the narrow plane, to sheathe the claws again. The wall was upwards of thirty feet high, and a refreshing breeze stirred the tails of his coat. A passing bird squawked at him. The only building in sight was the stables just outside the city; a fairly long fall, but nothing he couldn’t handle. Again, Cain jumped.

The straw roof of the stables rustled loudly as he landed atop it and went into a forwards roll to protect himself from getting hurt by the height. Below him, he heard a shout of alarm, and inwardly cursed. Not again. The stable guard must have noticed his jump. Deciding he didn’t need more guards after him than he already had, Cain reached for one of his daggers.

Below, all was silent. The guard could have sworn he’d seen something, but now that there was not a single sound from the rooftop, he was beginning to have his doubts. Then, out of nowhere, a dark shape swooped down from the roof to attack him. Cain was atop the guard before he even had a chance to react, knocking him onto his back with the weight and holding him down. One hand was clapped over the guard’s mouth so he couldn’t scream, the other, wielding a dagger, dug the blade into the seam between his helmet and his breastplate and plunged it up to the hilt in his neck.
Leaving his victim to die, Cain quietly slipped away from him and went to find a suitable horse.

The guards were still trying to get through the crowd at the gate, and word was spreading slowly to those outside, so while Cain was rather pressed for time, he still had more of an opportunity to pick and choose his mount than he ordinarily did. He’d had to settle for sway-backed mules or exhausted pack horses in the past; this time, a fit steed caught his eye, a bright-eyed and healthy horse that perked its ears towards him in curiosity as he approached. Most of the eyes in the area were at the commotion near the gate; by the time anyone noticed Cain taking a horse that definitely wasn’t his, it was too late. He hopped up into the saddle, leaned down to slice through the rope that the horse had been tied up with, spurred the animal into a gallop, and fled with it down the road.

Mathias Iversen ♠︎ Human Soldier ♠︎ Tags: Royal Army Forward Camp Delta; Titus

Mathias had gone faithfully along the journey while following orders, having a decent amount of armour on his person but not enough to allow difficult movement. The different kinds of magic he had noticed from the other mages intrigued him, and while he could not find any use for his own, he was still inspired. At the order from Titus at the bottom of the mountain, Mathias changed his mind. The rocks looked sharp and the thought of more beasts made him less than eager, but intead of fear the one-eyed soldier only felt a hopeless fatigue. He had eaten and slept for a few hours, yes, but the thought of what was to come mentally drained him.

The group did seem to be doing a good job getting up though, and the size of the cave certainly looked promising for something to be hiding inside. Mathias narrowed his eye when the three scouts split off and the rest stayed with the Captain- he could hear at least two different roars... The brunet exhaled as he tried to control his breath, preparing himself to use his magic if needed.

Copil/Female/Dragon/Tags: Moolettia Aldara

Copil hissed at Aldara, "It is better to risk one life instead of 3, no? Not to mention, if Moolettia is captured she will be killed, no doubt about it, you should protect her and yourself, besides, the other angry dragon may come and finish us off when we are all weak, it'd be better for you two to be in your prime to fight him rather then all three of us worn and torn. Now shoo!" Copil thought about it for a few more seconds before adding on, "Not to mention, I am a stranger to you, I could attack and try to kill you, don't risk dying to save a stranger." At the end of her brief speech she looked to Aldara pleadingly, just wanting her to understand that it would be better this way.

Ahone Grays
¯¨'*·~-.¸¸,.-~*' ¯¨'*·~-.¸¸,.-~*'
Prince | Some cave | tags; Moolettia, Copil, & Aldara

When Copil let out both roars, Ahone quickly pulled his hood up and slipped into what could be considered shadows, pushing himself against the wall, whispering an incantation repeatedly, getting ready to cast when necessary to ‘hurt’ Copil, knowing that what he was planning to do would simply shove and stun her with bright light show.

As Aldara and Moon started to bicker with the interesting dragon, he was tempted to tell them he agreed with Copil, yet there isn’t much you can do when you’re saying something over and over and that’s all you can focus on or else it will get screwed up and you have to start over, rebuilding the powerful spell from scratch. The only reason he knew this spell would do what was going to happen was from a little mistake he made when he was younger. Ahone has been repeating the word multiple times to get used to saying it, and once he felt he got it right he cast it, only for a massive ‘explosion’ to happen in said area he wanted to cast, sending papers and other people flying in all directions. Except, then, he said it probably 10 times. Now he was already over 40.

Nymerra
¯¨'*·~-.¸¸,.-~*' ¯¨'*·~-.¸¸,.-~*'
Dragon Healer | Royal Army Camp Delta | tags; Xiao

Nymerra gave Xiao a genuine smile when she walked it, glad there was someone else other than the guard to talk to, someone willing to actually reply for that matter. “You don’t need to worry about it, you thought you were being attacked and you had to protect your soldiers.” Even though she sounded like it, Nymerra in fact was not warming up to the humans one bit, not even the young lady who stood before her. “Yes I did speak with your captain, he seemed more interested in the fact he was willing to kill me than the small talk I was trying to make, I’m quite offended.”

Titus Eutherius

The Captain || Location || Forward Camp Delta || Tagged || Mathias, everyone in/around the cave?

As the soldiers crested the final ridge and spilled out onto the spacious open area just outside the cave, the dragons there came into view. Fright spread onto many of their faces behind their helmets as they realized there was not one, but two of the beasts waiting for them up there, a sleek black creature some of them recognized from the camp in the cave mouth and a pale, deathly beast that was roaring furiously at the approaching horses and the scouts creeping about above her. No one recognized the white dragon, and it surely confirmed their worst suspicions that the rogue rider was more than just an outlier if she was working with multiple dragons. This was bigger than anything they could have expected to find, and even though they outnumbered the dragons, numbers meant nothing when the matchups were so uneven. It often took several dozen soldiers working together to bring down one dragon- two dragons against their limited numbers could be disastrous. It was going to take a miracle to pull this one off. But they had been ordered to fight, so fight they would, no matter how impossible the odds seemed. Most of them had never met or even seen the prince before, but here they were more than willing to die for his sake. Royalty.

    [color=#BF0000]“Bring that one down!”
Titus shouted to his men as he came first into the clearing, gesturing with his spear to Copil, the closer of the two dragons. The captain and two other warriors on horseback led the charge, brandishing spears and lances and claiming space for the rest of their team to file in behind them. One warrior and all three of the mages had dismounted on the way up, and would be carrying out the battle on foot. With everyone on horseback, maneuvering in the slightly-restrictive space would have been difficult, and the human troops would have gotten in their own way and given the advantage to the dragons before the battle had even begun.

With their limited numbers, they could not hope to surround the dragon entirely, and splitting up would just make it easier for them to be picked off. Instead, mages stayed in a tight-knit group, where they could use their magic to shield themselves when the dragons inevitably began to fight back. Getting the first strike was imperative in battles such as these; dragons didn’t back down, they could rarely communicate or surrender like a human foe. The humans had to be the aggressors for their own protection - at least, that was how they saw it. Those who stopped to doubt the moral righteousness of the kill-on-sight rule seldom stayed alive long enough to realize just how necessary it was. The human kingdom was not one built on the desire for fair and just treatment of the enemy, or on picking their battles - the only way to survive was to be better at killing dragons than the dragons were at killing you.

Fortunately for them, the army was very good at killing dragons.
Titus and his cavaliers goaded their horses onwards and charged Copil. They used a similar strategy as they had when they had faced down Nymerra the previous day- though it already felt like it had been so long ago. The horses charged, seeming unstoppable even when facing down a dragon, thundering onwards and heading right towards her - then, at the last possible second, they peeled off and veered sharply to the side, sending a hail of magically-charged spears at the dragon. Smoke from the indoor campfire still hung hazy in the air, but in moments arrows from the scouts above and bolts of magic from the mages began to tear through it, cutting stripes of clear air in their wake as they flew towards both dragons. While Copil was the primary target, a few aimed for Aldara, hoping to keep her at bay until Copil could be subdued. They could only have any hope of success if they fought at least somewhat one at a time. Titus circled around and slowed as he neared the soldiers on foot; he needed to stay where the group was so he could help protect them if he had to. Already his eyes were blazing with blue-white light, and magic hummed in the air around him. He was ready and waiting for a counterattack.

Copil/Female/Dragon/Tags Titus, Scouts, Aldara, Ahone, Moolettia

Copil spread her wings widely, effectively creating a barrier between Aldara and the humans, Hissing in pain as the arrows and spears struck Copil head butted Aldara away, hissing, "If you do not go, I will leave you to fend for yourselves, now go away!" Turning back to the scouts she roared with anger, hoping to divert attention from the humans to allow her first friends to get out. Reaching down she picked up one of the scouts gently in her maw, narrowing her eyes she made a show of throwing him into a far away bush, hoping it would break his fall but not kill him, Copil believed the soldiers were Ahone's kin and was trying her best to not break the second promise she had made in her lifetime.
