«—Jessica Marie|16|Human|Open—»

The young girl had woken up with a bounce in her step. She was planning to go out flying today, since she had nothing better to do with her life. After showering and getting changed, she left the house before her step-father was awake. She snuck out of town and made her way into the woods. It was only 4 years ago since she discovered her ability. Since then she hasn’t been seen around her old friends because normally she would lose her patience and her anger would peek. With a long stretch into the woods, she found the lake that her parents would take her too. With a soft sigh, she sat beside the lake and let her mind flood with memories of her childhood. Jessica could never figure out why her parents left so suddenly and why they couldn’t take her with them. Those questions had plagued her mind since then. Every night she had nightmares and every morning she sat by the window, waiting for their return. Her anger level had spiked and she was able to shift into the small dragon. Her wings were feathered black and her scales were smooth. Her larger sized wings had stretched out, showing their size. She hopped up into the sky and took off, climbing towards the cloud, where she leveled out and flew across empty plains.

Titus Eutherius

The Captain || Location || Royal Army Forward Camp Delta || Tagged || Vrhaemar

When Titus began to catch on, it was already too late. A hero. To the humans. The humans. The humans. The captain's eyes widened, he looked over his shoulder, opened his mouth to shout a warning as the man's eyes began to glow. But his words died in his throat, and he felt his heart sink as the dragon's true form was revealed. Strange, how the man could go from someone deserving of mercy and protection to a vicious beast in the blink of an eye.
A shadow loomed across Titus as he looked up, and up, and up. This dragon was no lesser wyrm they could easily bring down with a few strong archers. This was an ancient, malevolent beast, and he could tell from one look at that thing that it would not easily be felled. But that wasn't going to stop him. In a situation like this, the unit was only as good as its commander. They were disorganized, confused, frightened, and they needed a good leader to show them how they were going to survive this. In less than a second, the eyes of the entire camp were fixed on the towering dragon in their midst. That was the one advantage, Titus thought, in an odd moment of clarity and grim humor. You never had to tell your men when they were under attack. For a moment, everything seemed frozen in time. Then the dragon's wings snapped out and beat mightily to loft its body into the air, and all hell broke loose.

Everything was plunged into chaos. Soldiers all across the camp began to run every which way, struggling to get their hands on their weapons, shouting and crying out in confusion and fear. Titus and those nearest to him were knocked back as they were buffeted by the wind produced by each downbeat of the dragon's wings. The captain was nearly knocked off of his feet, but he managed to keep his balance, and threw his arm up across his eyes to shield them from dirt and flying debris. For a split second, he paused, daunted and awestruck by the thought of fighting such a dragon with his troops so unprepared. But he snapped out of it before the dust had even stilled. Of everyone here, he could least afford to hesitate. Titus whirled, his cape flying out around him, the red a stark contrast from the drab tents and the dull pallor cast over everything in the morning light. His spear was beside the campfire, the point jammed into the ground to hold it upright. His helmet sat beside it, but Titus neglected it, instead yanking the spear from the dirt with a quick tug that scattered earth across his metal boots. Its point gleamed, and it was reassuring to be armed again with a worthy weapon. The metal tip was treated with a poison that reacted with dragons' blood, acting almost like acid to the beasts, which made it far more useful than plain steel. Now that he was armed, Titus glanced up again at the dragon now soaring above him. Those around him got back to their feet and began to scramble this way and that, and he raised his spear and bellowed,

    "Battle stations!"

And then he ran. But not out of fear; the commander made a beeline instead for his horse. The steeds were kept close to the waterline, so that they could be moved into the safety of the river should they be attacked. That was just what one quick-thinking stable-hand was doing now; every horse that was not fit to fight, those used as pack animals or by scouts, were being led into the water as their eyes rolled and they tossed their heads, on the verge of panicking and bolting. The horses that remained on land were the war horses. Those trained to stand before the draconic face of death and never flee, just like the cavalry troops who rode them. Dragonsbane was easily the largest of the bunch, and the enormous horse trotted towards his rider before he had even reached him. He was saddled, but not armored, for Titus had been planning on leading a patrol later in the day, not on engaging a dragon in the middle of his own camp. But that would have to do. With a surprising amount of grace for someone so heavily armored, Titus swung himself up into the saddle, spear still in hand, and the two of them were off.

It was easier to command from horseback. The pounding of hooves heralded Titus' arrival as he charged around the camp, slowing long enough to give orders to each group of men as they slowly began to rally and organize into their squads. Even when the first meteor crashed down among their tents, Dragonsbane did not even slow, and neither did his rider. But as he watched the plume of smoke roil upwards into the sky, Titus felt a sharp pang of grief. There was no way of knowing if everyone had gotten clear in time. He would never know how many casualties they had taken, or who they had been, until after the fight was over. He had to put it out of his mind, and that was one of the skills he had developed as a commander. His ordinary, empathetic self was hidden away behind the stony expression and the steady voice that rang out across the lines of tents as he called orders, and soon, a cohesive fighting force struggled free from the chaos. They were quite swift in getting re-organized under his command, but it felt like it took hours in the face of the death on wings above their heads.

All across the camp, the tarps were whipped off of the ballista, bolts were loaded, and the machines were tilted up into the air. They were too slow to track a healthy dragon, though, but other units were assembling elsewhere and readying to make the first strike. The ground troops and their shields moved together to form a protective wall in front of multiple platoons consisting of archers and battlemages. Skilled magic users were rare, but the army did what it could to train them and use their extraordinary abilities for its advantage. They stood together, working as one to channel their powers into spells greater than they could ever have cast alone. The charge hummed like ozone in the air, like a storm was on the way, as the magic was built up and readied to be unleashed. Elsewhere, archers gathered in greater numbers, behind shield-walls of their own. A few galloped about on horseback as Titus did; a few sergeants were giving more detailed orders to smaller groups as he oversaw the battle as a whole. The archers strung their bows, nocked wire arrows, and drew back their bowstrings. Wire arrows required a group of archers firing together at the same target, for one wire was attached to multiple arrows, fired from multiple bows. They could slice a dragon's wings to bits, but they had to wait for the ideal target.

That responsibility fell upon Titus. It was up to him to pick the perfect time for them to strike. The archers and the mages would act as one to attack the dragon, hopefully weakening it enough for the ballista to land their preciously important shots. He knew from years of training and experience how to judge when a dragon was low enough to the ground, and how to read their fight patterns and predict what they would do next. Still, it never felt easy. He was raptly focused, bringing his horse to a halt and staring up at the dragon as though he was in no danger at all. He could feel his heart pounding in his throat, and those vital few seconds of waiting stretched out into an eternity. Within a few moments, he saw Vrhaemar making a relatively low pass to the ground, and he knew it was now or never. He held his spear above his head as the signal to those who could not hear his words, and shouted at the top of his lungs:
    "FIRE!"

Xiao shifted her gaze over to the prince. "With all due respect your highness, what will you do when your magic doesn't work?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "You will need to be trained like a solider, not a prince. Under normal circumstances letting a soldier fight with no formal battle training would be insanity, yet that is the situation at hand." Xiao turned back to address the queen. "My object is to raise the chances of returning his highness unharmed; if he wishes to argue that with me, I would prefer to do so on the road as time is the one luxury we don't have."

Ahone scoffed and rolled his eyes. "I've never had an issue with my magic thank you very much!" He crossed his arms like he had done so earlier, being slightly stubborn, only slightly. Then, as quietly as he could, he mumbled something about not needing to be pampered just because he's the prince.

"I'd be more careful out here if I were you." A young lady in a flowing emerald green dress was standing near the giant wingless dragon. She had vines wrapped around her tanned wrists like small gauntlets while a small flower crown rested in her flowing brown hair which was back in a braid going halfway down her back. Multiple freckles speckled her face, mostly covering her rosy cheeks. The only thing that was very inhuman about her were her bright jade green eyes that seemed to glow. "Just because you're strong and fast doesn't mean the humans can get you. If I were you I would start heading back to the mountains before they can do anything." Nymerra messed with the dark green vines on her wrist before continuing. "Attacking those humans out on the road was a smart move."

Akela

"Whatever fails killing you,
Makes you stronger"

Rank ⇝ Lieutenant
Location ⇝ Mountains
Tagged ⇝ Open

Akela had arosed from his deep sleep in his own cave system. The only way of traveling in here was echolocation. Without it, you'd be lost at the first turn. The jet black dragon stretched widely and his retractable teeth came in to place. Having a fairly good sized cow for breakfast. An important part of the day to get your early cow breakfast on. Taking a finishing gulp he opened his mouth wide and shot out a sound wave, using his echolocation to make his way out of his lair, his wings moving up and down taking flight through the narrow passage way. Passing the boulders that bigger dragons weren't able to go through. His body allowed his to be fast, and a smooth flight. Bursting out of the cave system by the mountain he flew into the skies. Climbing up into the clouds, the dragon could admit he liked the night better simply because he camouflaged extremely well. Once above a body of water to drink, he dove down with a swift turn he stopped just near the water to make it move from the force of the wind. He landed peacefully and began to drink water, keeping his senses on high alert.

"You're not wrong on that one. I've been rather concerned with the path humans have been taking. Their new technology is a huge advancement, and concern to us. They're caused more dragon casualties then I've seen in a long time" He paused, his intense red eyes lightened at the sound of panicked screams of humans. He craned his neck and stared at the camp, which was lit ablaze like a burning torch. His massive spines vibrated and stood on their ends. He reached inside of his mouth with his massive claws, picking strands of rotting flesh and torn debris out of his serrated teeth, like a toothpick. He rasped "After all, it seems like somebody is already taking my job for me... How kind." He burning flames reflected onto his eyes. He turned his back towards the burning field, brushing his tail against the mutilated tree. "Let's go then, you've got the right idea." He trudged into the depths of the thick woods, which were almost pitch black under the dark sky.

Nymerra rolled her eyes at the male dragon's actions. Her gaze flicked over to the nearby flames causing the forest to glow a ominous orange. "I'm goin to check on whoever decided to attack the humans, see you back in the mountains." the green dragon ran towards the edge of the forest and once she got there, she instantly started morphing. She grew taller and taller, her limbs twisted and distorted into a new frame as her skin became jade green scales and wings grew from her back. This all took seconds and once she was done, Nymerra shot into the sky, flying over to the flames.

Mathias Iversen ♠︎ Human Soldier ♠︎ Tags: Royal Army Forward Camp Delta; Titus, Vrhaemar

Mathias had been one of the younger ones of the group; he had gotten board of the training and snuck out when a section of the royal army had left with Captian Titus Eutherius, but that was all he knew. Mathias knew how to blend in and did so very well- that is, until the dragon appeared. The first part of the soldier's experience was tedious and boring, much more so than what he had expected. It wasn't as if he could protest very much though, and he really didn't aside from making such remarks to others of his rank. Honestly the man would prefer to go back to that time now, seeing as he had been barely missed by the dragon's shot at the tents he was near. In fact, Mathias had just opened the cloth to leave when he saw the fire, and with his quick thinking and panic he had used his rune leap to jump out of the way just in time. The chaos of the deal stunned him, but at the appearance of a great battle horse and upon it their captain, Mathias finally looked around to see what he could do to help. He initially looked troubled; this was the very first dragon he had seen, nevermind been in combat with, and with it being airborne it wasn't as if he could put his hand-to-hand combat skills in use. He was never trusted with distances either because of his lost eye, and Mathias didn't want to waste his magic by creating something the beast wouldn't even react to.

The soldier- no, soldier in training stood still out of fear and confusion, knowing full well that we was useless at that moment.

Kokyu ♠︎ Dragon Scout ♠︎ Tags: Woodland near human city; open

Kokyu had been one of the dragons to plan his movements carefully and to his own interests most of the time, despite what the dragons' "government" really needed. It wasn't as if they were completely unified or in need of help anyway- And the eastern dragon, being a scout, was expected to spy on the humans, right? And what better way to do that than infiltrate them? The white beast swiped a serpentine tongue over his canines in thought, reaching the vegetation near the human city.

Kokyu figured he would do better as a lone traveler as opposed to a dweller of this land. It would explain the strange clothing he wore as a human as well as any strange actions he took. Landing rather elegantly onto the ground of the forest, the serpentine dragon changed forms to his other, more repulsive one (at least to him). The humanoid figure that now stood in his place was a lean young adult with white hair and a black streak- which, while a bit unnatural to humans, could easily be tossed off with his eastern features. His skin was pale and snowy, and his eyes changed from their normal gold to a slightly more hazel hue. Kokyu's clothing was fairly casual and build for lightweight tasks, following the dragon's black and white colour code with the exception of a red sash around his waist. Giving a soft exhale of disgust at his changed appearance, Kokyu's attention quickly shifted to some movement nearby and he ducked behind a tree with a growl. Ah, humans didn't growl... Kokyu would have to work on that one, though perhaps another time.

«—Jessica Marie|16|Human|Kokyu —»

The dragoness has felt her time as a dragon was coming to an end for the time being. She had swooped around and landed near the lake once more. Feeling her body give way as soon as she landed, her hands laid on the ground, keeping her from falling forward. It did take quite a bit of energy to shift but she was glad she was able to go out flying again. After feeling stable enough, she stood up and started heading back to the town. On the way back, she saw a white hair male heading behind a tree. She cautiously walked and spoke: “Sir, are you ookkay?” She wasn’t used to seeing people out near the lake.

Lirian Grays

Lirian nodded at the both, understanding Xiao's need to get on the road. She gathered her things, which was just more paperwork to go through. "Leave whenever you need to." She stated, about to make for the doorway when she overheard Ahone's mutterings. "Do as she says, Ahone. If you find yourself under attack you may not have time to react with magic. At least try to learn something from the captain." Lirian rested her hand on Ahone's shoulder as she said this, giving a gentle squeeze before she finally moved out the door.

Vrhaemar
____________________________
rogue ancient | flatlands | titus

As Vrhaemar came down for another attack, he spread his wings like a parachute to slow his descent. He was trying to find another target to hit, but was promptly distracted a shout from the human in charge, followed by one of their newer inventions sailing towards him. The ancient managed to fold his wings in time to avoid the brunt of attack, but the wire arrows still coiled around his tail as they entered their downward arc. Dragon tails were normally armored, so the weapon did nothing but scratch and rattle at his scales. Vrhaemar snarled vehemently. Though no damage was done yet, the string of arrows would make it more of a challenge to move without getting caught in them. The large dragon was hardly the picture of grace without the arrows, so he made a careful circle above the camp, then made a rapid dive for a group of mages by the archers. He took hold of two mages and their horses, and flew up again until he was at a lethal height. And then he dropped them. He watched them fall for a few seconds, and then turned to fly away from the human camp. Before leaving, however, he turned his head towards the captain, and called out in a booming voice. "You are a worthy adversary, little human. My name is Vrhaemar. You may hear it again someday." With a final growl, Vrhaemar spit one last meteor in the camp's general direction, and then flew the other way.
