The dragoness kept her gaze on the flight before them, they had been over land for a little bit, but Aldara was hesitant to land, there was no sign of life here for Moolettia to communicate with, no humans. She gave a small growl, puffing a tuft of smoke from her nose. Turning her head to Akuji, the red dragon "We'll land down there she pointed with a talon to a small overhanging ledge that they could land on, following Akuji when he ducked down to inspect it.

At the signal that it was safe, she lowered down to the floor, landing beside Akuji. Her tail swept over the floor and she raised her head to glance around. "There is no human life here..We'll just have to wait until Moolettia wakes up to figure out which direction to go from here.." she chittered.

Flying might be what dragons were built to do, but not this one. He much preferred short flights, and having the ground beneath him. Not the ocean. He was knocked from his thoughts at Aldaras message, turning his head to the overhang. Tucking his wings in he dropped to the ledge, doing a quick scan of the area, he deemed it inhabitant. Giving Aldara the signal to come down. The dark dragon changed his scales to a much duller gray-red theme.

Glancing at his sister when she landed, he turned to carefully pluck the sleeping hybrid from her back he placed her down closer to the wall, settling down beside her. "This might not even be the place," he grumbled sourly, scanning the peaks, "This is almost like a rabbit chase, we dont know where we're going and we're relying on visions that hardly make any sense.." he frowned, "And we're always late. Always. Whats the point on following them ourselves? We should just find the nearest human village and find a Shaman or someone to interpret the messages." He set his head on his talons.

[ Vik Serah - location: Isarania, tavern - tagged/mentioned: Vicas, Kris ]

I'd be a lot warmer and a lot happier with a belly full of mead... The shewolf thought to herself as she made her way through the streets of Isarania. She'd just finished escorting a merchant and his wagon of wares into the capital city and it was time to spend her hard earned wages on a nice meal and a warm bed. As much as she enjoyed spending weeks on the road and sleeping under the stars, on dreary days like these she didn't mind staying indoors, especially if she had someone to help keep her bed warm. Wouldn't that be nice... except she doubted that anyone would want to lay with a woman that smelled like wet dog. She'd get a meal, a bed, and then a bath.

After some meandering she settled on a cozy tavern and inn located in one of the city's quieter neighborhoods. The place smelled like booze, food, and damp air, probably from all the people who'd been wearing wet clothing. She leaned against the bar counter until she was able to get the innkeeper's attention and make the necessary arrangements. He'd have a room and bath readied for her soon, in the meantime she could dry off by the fire and eat some stew. He handed her a wooden bowl laden with carrots, meat, and potatoes all swimming in savory brown gravy with a side of toasted bread. She gave the innkeeper a thankful nod and passed him a few coins before weaving around the rest of the tavern's occupants to sit by the hearth and eat.

As much as she wanted to wolf down her food the minute she was seated, she resisted the urge and ate in small bites. Vik was always careful about how wide she opened her mouth, lest someone look too closely and see her fangs. She was about to get up and ask for seconds when she noticed a dark figure standing in the doorway. First thing she noticed was the mercenary crest, and she'd been around in the sell sword circles long enough to recognize which group it belonged to. What the Predators were doing in the city was beyond her concern. Probably something to do with the Dragon War if she had to guess. Innkeeper was in the middle of serving her another bowl of stew when she smelled the cat come in.

Fera was flying high over the highlands. He'd been up there for the better part of the day simply enjoying the silence and taking the time to think. No matter how much he cleared his mind however, one thought kept returning like an insistent pest.
What really happened?

It had been years, over a thousand years, and yet something still did not quite add up to him. The chances to two successful assassination attempts occurring at the same time after a long period of peace seemed odd to him. He knew Drakon was a dragon of the highest honor and never would have stooped so low. But the chances of the humans successfully poisoning him was also slim. So what really happened? Fera had been obsessing over it for years, the question returning every time he was alone. He'd sent spies out across the land, some even in the human capital. And yet nothing had come up. Whatever had truly occurred had been carefully concealed. So to find the truth Fera had climbed the ranks of dragon society and done all he could to gain influence and respect. But even now 1500 years later, nothing.

Gritting his teeth in frustration, Fera growled low in his throat. Asking himself the same question over and over wasn't going to get him anywhere. He shook his head and let out a shot of black fire to vent some of his anger into the sky. Swooping down he soared past the mountainside and began to descend down to the ground. Perhaps some hunting could distract him from his thoughts.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ It was days like today that defined their struggle, Lirian always thought. It was the fear, not always the blood, that they would choke on as their city came to a standstill. Instead of busy shoppers, merchants found themselves calling out their wares to patrols of soldiers in the streets as their usual customers have opted to take cover in their homes. All this, for an attack that may never even come. Lirian could see almost the entire city from her balcony, though it was blanketed in fog, and she sighed at howโ€ฆ natural this all was to them. If this war continued like it was, the children of Pirenne would be experts in emergency protocol before their teens.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€Lirian leaned against the balcony railing, turning her face up towards the drizzling rain. This was just a momentary reprieve from the subtle chaos inside the castle. She couldnโ€™t turn a corner without a worried noble trying to secure more men for their estates, or harried treasurers spouting statistics and numbers that were, quite frankly, just as turbulent as ever. It could get overwhelming sometimes, even for the queen. Lirian took a deep breath, her fist grasping the fur cloak draped across her shoulders. The weather was rapidly cooling off, an inevitability brought by the early winter. It wouldnโ€™t be much longer before this cold rain was turned to ice and snow.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€A low-pitched whine from behind her caught Lirianโ€™s attention and she turned around to see Harou, her wolfdog, laying on the ground beside the doorway. His tail wagged expectantly as he looked up at her, ears perked with alertness. โ€œYouโ€™re feeling it, too?โ€ Lirian asked him, and he lifted his head from the ground. She gestured to him, and he trotted over. He lifted up his front legs, putting them up on the railing beside her. His yellow eyes scanned the horizon, head swiveling to-and-fro. Lirian rested a hand on his back, fingers intertwining with his ebony fur. โ€œCome, Harou. We should get back to it.โ€ She went back inside, Harou close behind her, and left her quarters for the hallway.

    [ title. the scout ] [ tagged. open | mentioned: n/a ] [ location. isarania ]

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ The wind was bitingly cold above Isarania, even through the layers of Askariโ€™s scout uniform. Her commanding officer had her flying this route around the city and the outlying territories ever since their regiment was called back to the capital. Everyday, it was the same path, and everyday she would see nothing but the same sights. And definitely no dragons. The scout had a blind hope that today would have been different, but no luck. The only difference was the light fog accompanying the freezing rain, which soaked through Askariโ€™s clothes and threatened to force her from the skies with saturated wings.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€Her route was finished, anyway. Askari was slowly spiralling down towards the city walls, where sheโ€™d either be dismissed or given another task. She hoped it would be the former, so sheโ€™d have the opportunity to dry off somewhere. As she landed, she located her superior and briskly made her way to him, offering a stiff salute. He seemed almost as tired and aggravated with the situation as everyone else, but had the good graces to dismiss Askari for a break.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€Askari let out a sigh of relief, descending from the city walls into the streets. With any luck, she wouldnโ€™t have to fly that route again today. The scout threw a cloak across her back and wings, flipping the hood up onto her head. Now, she just needed to find a warm place to sit down for a while. She wandered down the cobblestone streets, weaving through crowds. She looked to the tavern, which was slowly filling up with worried civilians and stressed soldiers alike, and decided that she would not be joining them. Her last visit to that tavern resulted in a, frankly, embarrassing episode that had to do with a dignitaryโ€™s drink and a single unfurled wing. Askari worked groundside for weeks afterwards.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€She could always go home. Her parents live not too far from here, and theyโ€™d be more than happy to welcome their daughter back from the barracks. She didnโ€™t really want to, however. Sometimes, Askari preferred the bad weather to their coddling. Perhaps sheโ€™d give some of the local merchants some business before she had to head back to work? It was as good a plan as any. She picked out her favorite shop from the center of the market, a wood carving shop, and stepped inside.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€Vrhaemar had been asleep when the sounds of air rushing around wings stirred him into consciousness. The ancient tilted his head up with a slight growl, eyes narrowing at the silhouettes of a pair of dragons flying over him. He had made it crystal clear to any younger dragons whose territory this was ages ago and no one had challenged him in decades, so these two were either incredibly stupid or were lost. Either way, Vrhaemar would need to be rid of them. He had a reputation to uphold, after all.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€The dragon pushed himself from his prone position, shaking dust and rocks off of his hide before pumping his wings to lift him above the hills blocking his quarry from view. He caught sight of them again just before they landed on a ledge not too far away, and easily glided over. He dropped to the ground at a small distance, trying to assess the nature of these visitors before acting. There were two dragons, a red male and a black female, both adults. But what caught Vrhaemarโ€™s attention was that they were not alone. The red male plucked what appeared to be a sleeping human from the femaleโ€™s back.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€Vrhaemarโ€™s curiosity was piqued, as neither of the dragons acted like this human was a prisoner. Very few dragons took prisoners in this war, anyways. The ancient crept forwards, straining to hear a few words of their conversation. The red male said something about going to a human village for help with something, and Vrhaemar nearly laughed. He may as well make his presence known now. โ€œYouโ€™ll find very few humans ready to converse with dragons so easily.โ€ He announced, climbing to the top of his rocky hiding place to put him in full view of these strangers. โ€œAnd very few dragons that will tolerate your friendโ€™s presence in these mountains.โ€ He gestured towards the sleeping human with a claw.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€His orange eyes flickered in between the two younger dragons and he snorted, smoke billowing from his nostrils and horns. โ€œYou two arenโ€™t from Pirenne, are you?โ€

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€Winter has always been Morriganโ€™s favorite season. Something about the landscape transforming into a land of ice and snow had always been beautiful to her. It was a personal opinion back when she was younger, and it still kind of was, but now she could add more items to her list: More often than not, the sun was blanketed in gray clouds, sending shade down to the land below. And the cold now suited her far better, a balm to the threat of being burned alive by the sunโ€™s rays. Only on the cold, cloudy days could she walk in the daylight. Morrigan had been testing her limits ever since Lekil had bestowed his so-called โ€œgiftโ€ upon her, transforming her into a creature of the night. So far, sheโ€™s found herself loving and hating her new existence almost equally. Her hand drifted up to her neck, under the scarf that was hiding a nasty scar from view. It stretched horizontally across her throat, a mark from a different life that sent her into this one.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€She spared a glance at the mug on her table, untouched since the waiter had given it to her. She found that food normally consumed by humans turned to ash in her mouth, an unpleasant sensation that left her coughing and gasping the last time it had happened. She would soon need to hunt forโ€ฆ other sustenance. At the moment, however, she was stubbornly refusing to stoop to that level of barbarism. Her table was farther away from the innโ€™s hearth, in a shadowed corner on the left wall. There were many scents mingling with each other in this establishment, but a few stood out as unique. Particularly the ones that werenโ€™t exactly human. Morrigan could even hear a few heartbeats, some slightly increased by the effects of alcohol. She could observe the populace almost undetected, as long as none of them came too close. Even if she were spotted, there was no real reason to be suspicious. After all, she was just enjoying a drink at a tavern.

Her head snapped around to stare at the new arrival, taking the small human into her talons she brought Moolettia closer to her, hiding her almost behind her claws. The spines along her back rose, and her crested spikes around her head frilled out almost. Lighting up the small crevices along her body she drew in a small hiss, sweeping her tail up to her side. She didn't speak though, simply stared at the older dragon, ears flattened.

He turned slower then Aldara had, his tail had raised and kinked faintly, moving into a defensive position. That was really the only semi-hostile movement he did, other then that he seemed pretty calm. He eyed the older dragon, if a fight was to happen they'd have to flee..He just had to hope this dragon didn't mind them sleeping here.. His gaze flicked to Moolettia when he addressed her, then back.

He frowned, "..no." he replied, tail twitching to tap gently on the floor, a nervous tick, it meant no harm to the older dragon. "So this is Pirenne?" he shared a small glance with Aldara, then back up. "Why wouldn't the humans be willing to talk? I thought Pirenne had a alliance with the dragons?" his head tilted faintly to one side, faintly confused.

Maelโ€™s boots crunched on frost-licked grass as he made his way through the gates of the capital city. Despite not being in his far more resilient dragon form, the young man seemed unaffected by the sharp sting of the crisp winter air. He had his sights set some something even more important anyway- something that had called the dragon from his usual hovering above the clouds in the highlands and even into this cramped, fragile little body; which happened to be a certain bakeryโ€™s pastries. The wind summoning beast had a weakness that plagued his kind and humans alike: the Dreaded sweet tooth. Of course, Maelstrom wouldnโ€™t have arrived so confidently from this impulse alone. He had snuck in enough times for his own eavesdropping and investigative work to learn of recent war affairs. In doing so he had dropped by the quaint little sweet shop, frequently enough that had he not stopped by every so often the owners might just report him missing. So really, this whole quest was actually done to keep suspicion off of him, Mael reasoned to himself.

His stomach rumbled a bit as the dark-haired boy approached the shop in question, his steps becoming faster paced in a childlike giddiness. The older woman had already placed his usual request on the counter by the time he arrived at the door, giving him a warm smile before pocketing the coin he had retrieved from his pocket. In only a mere minute he was back out the door with a small bag of parcels in hand. Before starting his usual trek back to somewhere he could comfortably shift and fly away, the dragon caught sight of a winged woman casually entering a shop a few doors down. He recognized the scout that had just then disappeared from view. While he knew nothing of her name or personality Maelstrom had been annoyingly aware of her scheduled patrols, which tended to disrupt his cloud cover naps above the city. He had also kept an eye on her after first becoming aware of her existence, attempting to judge just how fatal a meeting could be if the sky was too dry for enough fog to obscure his serpentine body. He had never decided on an answer, but perhaps this was the right opportunity to find one.

Maelstrom popped the door open a crack and peered in at the numerous carvings and wooden sculptures littered around the walls and floor, holding on tight to the bag of pastries as he entered the room fully. It was a sight to see, the crowded but still very interesting collection of woodwork. Admittedly Mael had never had a need for such objects; looking at them now though made him reconsider his choice of not building up a hoard. He had no need for the usual gold and jewels most hoarding dragons kept hidden, but keeping the labor of such a craft might be another story. Amber eyes strayed to a particular pine wood tile depicting the twists and curls of clouds, beckoning Mae to take a closer look. It was just then, however, that he remembered what he had come in for and discreetly glanced in Askariโ€™s direction. He was more focused on his task at hand now, yet a small bit of him worried for the safety of some of the more delicate projects near the scoutโ€™s wings.
