as river ran, she watches as another figure appears in the distance. soon realizing it was another person, she slowed down a bit curiously, but still maintained a decent speed. as the other spoke, river nods, "i mean, sure!" she calls out, "just keep up!" that other girl was better off running with the group than in that car anyways. as river ran forward with the other girl's hand in hers, the city entrance drew closer, only about a two hundred feet or so, to be exact. thank god none of it was blocked out-- it looked as if some wooden barriers were made but got torn down. that either meant more people, or more zombies. the blonde shook her head. cant worry about that now.she turns her head and looks back at the girl next to her and the group trailing behind them, "up ahead! maybe we can find shelter in a building or something!" it was almost kind of nice, having a big group like this-- even if they were all very questionable strangers. there was safety in numbers after all.

      it was a sizable group.

the first person to answer was the boy. he was an average looking dude, probably from nebraska, or maybe even kansas, based upon his outward appearance. the rifle was held comfortably in his grip, which further solidified the southern boy case. his tone, as expected, was preoccupied. red couldn't blame him, with a hoard of zombies closing in from behind them. one of the girls chimed in with even less enthusiasm than the cowboy. again, red didn't pay much mind. the friendliness of the group didn't matter as much as the fact that there was safety in numbers. as much as reagan hated to admit it, the zombie apocalypse was not something that she could face alone.

the third and final person to chime in was the second girl. apparently, approval from the entirety of the group was necessary. surprisingly close to red's height, the third girl answered in a tad more of a welcoming manner. just keep up, the words echoed in red's mind for a moment. before she was given the chance to snort, the third girl spoke again. the words were almost comforting. in all honesty, it was just nice to see humans again. the apocalypse proved to be quite lonely. red kept pace next to the cowboy, the other two girls ahead. "how do we plan on losing the paparazzi?" red yelled ahead. it was fine and dandy to find shelter in the city, but not if those numbers of zombies persisted in the chase.

Now although Kenzie was bitter and greatly irritated by the mere existence of zombies, she did feel a pang of guilt when zombies came wandering out as a result of her bike. Watching the situation unfold, she arched an eyebrow in surprise as a few more people appeared out of nowhere to assist in the slaughter of the dead. They could handle the situation together. Turning her attention back to the approaching skyscrapers, the young woman sped up, eager to do a little raiding.

Back when rumours of a zombie outbreak began trickling through social media, Mackenzie thought it was dumb, but still took the necessary steps to prepare. Her father owned a large, secure building in the city and she knew the interior layout like the back of her hand. So she was sure to stock his office with preservatives and canned goods, and hid a few machetes and knives throughout the stories, just for safe measure. Now that it stood barren, she was the only person who could enter and exit due to changing the security codes.

And so there she stood in the penthouse that was once her father's office, watching lone zombies crawl through the empty streets of the once bustling city centre. It was a little lonely, but at least she was safe. Shaking her head, she began to plan her trip to the electronics store to find a replacement set of headphones.

Nevadaโ€™s head shot around when he heard the running figures warning and he swore under his breath as he saw what was going on behind the running group of people. A growling mass of rotting dead followed, moving in a mindless desperation towards him, and the others. He broke into a run once he reached the highway, running with a slight limp due to a past injury that left his right leg stiff and mostly numb. He knew he could probably make it up the city as long as he kept going and didnโ€™t stumble, and provided that the pain in his leg that so often flared up when he ran didnโ€™t get to be too much.

Nevada tried to focus on the sound of his feet hitting the worn asphalt as opposed to the horde behind them. He was slightly behind all of the others, but he barely noticed. He was just focusing on himself and getting to the city without getting devoured mindlessly by the stinking horde of rotting flesh behind him.

โžผ It seemed Jackson's warning didn't go unanswered. The man looked over his shoulder again and soon enough he saw the person who had been in the field running with them, as well as the young woman from the ford focus who decided to run next to him. It eased his worry that they were getting close. Taking shelter in a building was one thing, but if they wanted to loose this horde they needed barricade building material. Jackson looked over at the young woman next to him as she spoke. Assuming she was talking to him Jackson answered " Well our only option is to find somewhere where we can make sure the zombies don't follow us or somewhere we know they can't. We're probably gonna need to build barricades." Even though Jackson had said this to the women next to him, he hoped others were listening to. If it was as easy as shooting them all Jackson would, but he only had five bullets left and didn't want to waste them on zombies unless he had to.

The man was beginning to tire, but pushed himself. The city was coming into view. That was enough to keep him going. He didn't feel like getting devoured by a horde of the undead today. Now he started to think, what building should they keep an eye out that would be a safe bet. Probably one with stairs and locking doors. Jackson knew zombies could open doors, it happened to him once. Did the rest of them know that? Maybe he should warn them ahead of time. " Y'all know zombies can open unlocked doors right?" He asked everyone in particular who was listening. Maybe a police station or a fire station. Defiantly not a house. That idea was for later. Out of all the things Jackson could find enjoyment in it was raiding a house for loot. Or a gun store, those were fun too.

aileen finally released hands with the girl from the truck. she glanced over once- no, twice, to see that her hand looked a bit beaten up from her knife, perhaps even bleeding. she made a mental note to take care of it once they got to safety. "somewhere with higher ground," aileen suggested breathlessly, starting to grow tired. she ran and ran, looking over her shoulder only once which caused her hood to fly off and her bangs to shuffle wildly. the zombies were slowly but surely catching up and multiplying, too.
"of course they can open doors. theyre dumb but theyve got strategies," she responded to jackson. aileen shoved her pocket knife back into the pocket of her poncho and continued to run, platforms kicking up dirt behind her.

so how are we going to lose the paparazzi? the newcomers voice chimed in as the group ran, resulting in a genuine laugh from river. sure, everyones lives were at stake right now, and she was sure the comment wasn't completely meant for comedic effect, either. but nonetheless, river glances back at the other girl with a half hearted smile-- at least somebody here had a sense of humor.

as river loses grip of the dark haired girls hand, she looks farther back, catching sight of a male in the distance. he was running, but he didn't look all too good. the zombies were speeding up-- did they always do that? biting her lip and looking up ahead, she tried to think of something-- anything to do. the city was right there.. but what after that? after a few moments of just running and thinking, the blonde soon realized something. the road connecting the city to the highway was a narrow one, already mostly blocked off by an array of crashed cars, and surrounding the rest of the city were the leftover wooden border remains. if she had anything else to block the way.. her eyes catch sight of a nearby dumpster. how did it end up so close to the highway? nobody would ever know. looking back at the group behind her she quickens her pace, speedily crossing the highway-city border and dashing towards the dumpster. thank god she was fit. "if we block the main entrance we can slow down the horde!" she calls out, already pressing her body against the foul smelling contraption. it seemed full, but she didnt really want to know what it was full of. ฮ…it wont do much for very long, but it'll save us some time to find someplace safe to hide!"

the weak smile was somewhat comforting, in a peculiar way.

red felt herself tiring. not nearly as much as the others, since she had only run half of what they had, but a decent amount. the cross-country in high school wasn't exactly kicking in right then. then again, it had been, what, five years now? sheesh. reagan made a mental note to either start working out after the apocalypse (if it ever did end) or during it, if she could somehow stumble across a gym that wasn't infested with corpses. she repeated the boy's words in her head, somewhere they can't follow... build barricades, the barricade half sounded time consuming, but red didn't want to damper anyones parade. as for somewhere they can't follow, a locked building? then again, they would be locked out as well as the zombies. up until now, red genuinely didn't know zombies could open doors. as dedicated as the girl was to killing zombies, she had probably only taken out a handful. for the most part, she tried to avoid them. they were terrifying. in her avoidance, red realized she knew little to nothing about them. hopefully she could learn from the group without them thinking she was weak.

blocking the main entrance? what the hell was negan talking about? (side note: red decided to call one of the girls negan. it was just fitting, with the baseball bat and all.) she then recognized the large dumpster; it was kind of hard to miss. red joined her, shoving her weight against it. an offensive smell seeped from it, what red assumed was rotting corpses. she would never get used to that. negan's words made sense. it wouldn't hold for very long, and it was also carving out precious time. hopefully if everyone helped it might be easier. red strained against the dumpster, teeth grinding together in the strain.

โžผ "That's what I thought too." he replied to Aileen. One had opened a door in the last house he took refuge in and caught him by surprise. The man looked back behind him. All the movement and noise they were making was probably why the zombies were getting riled up and quickening their pace. "C'mon, this way!" he called out to the young man who was trailing a little further behind. Hopefully he would follow them before it was too late.

Turning his attention back to what was in front of him, Jackson heard the woman with the base ball bat say if they block the main entrance to the city it would give them just enough time to hide. Already her and the woman who was in the ford focus were pushing a dumpster. Jackson caught on to what they were doing. Quickly he slung the rifle on his shoulder temporarily to help them out. Now tired, his lungs fought for air as Jackson pushed on. That dumpster smelt something awful but he shoved that aside. More important to get this job done, their lives depended on it. As the man began to push it started to skid over the ground making the small grounds of rock underneath grind against the metal.

Nevada kept a steady pace, driven forward by the groaning of the horde behind him that was becoming less easy to ignore as they quickened. He had no clue who the others were in front of him, or if theyโ€™d be trustworthy. Heโ€™d had people turn on him in an instant since so many others started getting sick, but at this point, heโ€™d chose potentially getting attacked by living people over slowly being eaten alive by a swarm of who knows how many dead.

Nevada reached the foul smelling dumpster maybe a minute or so after the guy who had warned him of the horde. Wedging himself in beside him, he pushed against the metal side. The metal itself was slightly sticky, and he pushed all thought of what might be inside out of his mind. His breath grew more ragged as he pushed, teeth clenched, sweat gathering on his brow and stinging his eyes. After his injury, heโ€™d stopped trying to be as active, and the few years of only running when he had to had been catching up you him lately, or at least, heโ€™d become more aware of them.
