"yeah yeah," she mumbled, beginning to follow the man. "hey, i never got your name." aileen stepped to his side, looking down at the ground to make sure her platforms didnt get caught in the sticky terrain. it was up hill and she had no problem with that, except it stressed her calves greatly in these shoes. perhaps the day after it rained wasnt a good one to wear them.

I'm on mobile sorry

As Jackson continued on his quest to find loot he answered the woman who had moved to walked beside him. "Jackson, what's yours?" he asked her in return. He stepped up the slope and slowed to a halt. He stood on the dirt beside the highway and looked both ways before stepping on the cracked asphalt. It occurred to him then he didn't have to do that, but it was a habit that he carried with him from the normal days. Those habits would be hard to break. Jackson started walking up the highway spotting a dark green car on the side of the road. It was old looking. Perhaps there was something in it but Jackson figured there probably wasn't. Buck knife still in hand the man walked towards it, ready for someone or something to jump up at any moment.

aileen stomped up the hill and set her feet firmly on the asphalt. she scraped her shoes on it, wiping off any mud that dared dirty them. "are you sure thats your real name?" she asked suspiciously, securing her hood over her head. "for all i know, you could be lying. though i dont know why youd do that to be honest... no reason to. after all, i could kill you right here and nobody would know." her voice raised itself a bit at the end there, as if she were challenging the man. but he walked off towards a car in the distance, almost like he was ignoring her. "hey," aileen called, catching up to him quickly. "im aileen." her voice was short this time, and she shoved her hands into her pockets, looking up at the sky as she walked by him. she was completely nonchalant, not expecting much from the car. maybe supplies? only one way to find out.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ some time in the past โ”€โ”€โ”€
    โ”€โ”€โ”€ โ€œthis wall wonโ€™t hold forever.โ€

โ”€โ”€โ”€ โ€œnot with that attitude,โ€ jerran half-joked, standing next to his husband with his arms crossed and concern etched into his features. humor was in short supply anymore, with the world going all world war z and whatnot. jerran still tried where he could. amerigo was right, though. the wall theyโ€™d constructed around the radio station was made of thin sheet metal theyโ€™d found laying around the place. a strong enough gust of wind could knock it over. it was better than nothing, though. and- hey, at least he wasnโ€™t alone.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ the radio station had been their best bet when it came to building a stronghold. not ideal for most people- it lacked resources and wasnโ€™t in the most convenient location, being just out of town along a highway, but really itโ€™s the people that make a place. jerran had never considered himself a particularly intelligent man, but he knew his way around radio technology. heโ€™d spent the better part of his life around it. between his experience with that and amerigoโ€™s medical background, they should be set. of course, it helped that they had supplies- not a lot, but enough non perishable food and bottled water to last a while. long enough for them to get their feet under them and come up with a plan.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ electricity was another issue. easily solved, though- the computers in the station were old, and the monitors were easily taken apart and turned into a wind turbine. enough to power a single light on a good day. that wasnโ€™t what jerran had in mind, though- instead, he rigged up a new radio from the old set up, this one a low power version of what had previously existed. the only problem with it was that there was no way to know if it worked- jerran regularly found himself sitting at a desk and talking away, hoping that someone else was out there, and not a zombie, and close enough to the limited signal range to pick the station up.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ for a week and a half, it seemed like, even in the face of the apocalypse, things would work out. but amerigo was right, and the wall didnโ€™t last forever. despite the fact they had reinforced the wall with whatever else they could find, it was easily broken through by a wave of zombies that had caught them both off guard. theyโ€™d fought them off together, of course, but that wasnโ€™t what was important about the ordeal- what was important was that prior to this, jerran had lived his whole life like he was invincible. there was nothing quite like watching his husband rapidly turn into a zombie after being bitten to make him realize that maybe heโ€™d been living wrong. and there was nothing like burying his husband years earlier than he should have to make jerran realize that, no, heโ€™d absolutely been absolutely correct, and as far as he was concerned, he was going to live forever.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ some time in the present โ”€โ”€โ”€
โ”€โ”€โ”€ at some point post-apocalypse, jerran had developed a habit of waking up every few hours to check the sheet metal wall that stood outside the radio station. it didnโ€™t provide much space, enough for a small garden heโ€™d started with what little heโ€™d started with. really, he should probably check it more, but who was counting? either way, his day started the same as any that day- check the wall, eat some canned corn, check the wall, water the garden, check the wall, sit at the desk and play around with the radio until a signal was found.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ despite not being sure if the radio worked, something about it was comforting. a sense of familiarity, maybe? or even just an invisible audience to talk to. heโ€™d spent most of his life talking for a living, and he didnโ€™t plan on stopping now, so whenever jerran managed to pick up a signal on the radio, thatโ€™s what he did. heโ€™d talk about anything and everything, going on for hours about what vegetables to start a garden with and how to start a fire. mostly, though, heโ€™d developed a fondness for telling stories about his own life. there was a lot to talk about, in retrospect- a lot of things heโ€™d glossed over and taken for granted in the moment that, in hindsight, seemed so significant at the end of the world. heโ€™d talk about his childhood, growing up without much and sneaking out his bedroom window as a kid in search of aliens, because there had to be more out there in the universe. how his only family had been his mother, and how sheโ€™d died when jerran was in high school, and how he felt terrible because he should have been more affected by his own mother passing away, but sometimes family isnโ€™t good or bad- sometimes it just is. heโ€™d talk about amerigo, and about the life they had planned on building together. and heโ€™d talk about how unpredictable the universe is, and how strange it is that time can just take away everything someone has ever worked for.

โ”€โ”€โ”€ this day was no different. jerran found a signal and stared out the window at the metal wall around his new home as he spoke. โ€œhello, fellow apocalypse survivors- welcome back to zombie-radio. iโ€™m your host, jerran fontaine-reis, and itโ€™s currentlyโ€ฆ iโ€™m not sure what time it is. on one end, my watch says itโ€™s about noon. on the other end, i don't have a watch.โ€ from there, he continued talking, speaking on end about how he hadnโ€™t seen an actual horse until he was twenty-two, and he hadnโ€™t entirely believed in them until then, all while feeding a few ants on the desk some crumbs from some stale saltine crackers.

It was hot. Disgustingly so, in River's opinion. The waves of heat from up above only strengthened with the faint yet still very much prominent smell of rotting flesh upon the highway. The blonde scrunches up her nose as she coughs into her jean jacket, the once pastel blue fabric now ruined with scratches and patches of white. She'll never get used to that horrible smell. RIver lazily drags a baseball bat wrapped along with barbed wire across the black pavement as her eyelids droop weakly, making a rather unpleasant sreeeeeeeech as she progressed. She'd been walking for days now, and even though she was lucky enough to not encounter any zombies (yet) she still found traveling without a car or bike a chore-- especially with this dreaded heat. Maybe if she's lucky she'll find a bike or something.

By now she's quite a way away from her hometown, and according to her map, (who even used these flimsy paper map things anymore anyways?) she was heading towards the city. Sure, it was a death wish, but she had nothing else to lose-- besides, these small towns just weren't cutting it out anymore. She was low on supplies, fresh water was hard to come by, and at this point all of it was really warm and just overall unpleasant to drink.

her vision was beginning to get a bit hazy, but river could've sworn she saw a car up ahead. taking a moment to take off her jacket to reveal a stained tank top and take a sip of what little water she had left, the blonde began to pick up the pace. As she approached the green vehicle, she makes an attempt to take a look inside. Unfortunately though, the windows were dark, and hard to see through. taking a few steps back, river raises her bat over her head before swinging it through the window. The impact caused the glass to shatter and fall everywhere, in which river then reached her arm inside and unlocked the door. swinging it open, she was immediately met with a feral creature inside. It was only a matter of time until she came across a zombie. Letting out a shocked noise, she jumped back, raising her bat as the zombie crawled out. After a swift blow to the head, it was dead-- for good. She had no clue it was in there-- it probably died trapped inside here. Adrenaline was coursing all throughout her body from that one brief moment. Taking a moment to catch her breath, the blondes brown eyes glance up from over the roof of the car-- making eye contact with two unknown people.

โžผ As Jackson continued walking towards the run down car he heard the woman questioning if that was his real name he gave. โ€œDonโ€™t worry.โ€ he assured her, stopping to turn and face her โ€œI gave you my real name.โ€ Quite the odd suspicion but Jackson mentally shrugged, maybe names were important to her. Although what she said next was unexpected. It made him narrow his eyes a little โ€œDitto.โ€ Her saying things like that made it hard to trust her, but he managed to shove those feelings away when she told him her name. โ€œNice to meet you Aileen.โ€ he replied, still being plight.

The man began to feel like there was another person near by, a stranger he hadnโ€™t met. When he turned back around there was another young woman around the old car. He had made eye contact with her. The man clenched his knife but said nothing, and instead glared at her. If she had a weapon which she probably did but also had bad intentions he was in a tough spot. The man mentally made a plan in case this unknown woman was going to attack.

aileen smirked again at his tone. he sounded standoffish a bit, sort of uninterested in what she was saying almost. "you too," she lied. in fact, this man was nothing but a problem for her. she had been hunting for food, not zombies or men, and most men were nuisances anyway, in her mind. she watched him stop and wondered what was wrong. taking a few steps forward, aileen stopped too. a girl. "do you know her?" aileen asked quietly, locking eyes with this new person. she clutched her knife in her pocket, using a finger to flip out the blade subconsciously. she wondered if this was a setup to kill aileen, and became wary instantly. looking to jackson, she glared. "i said do you know her."

oh shoot. river watches as the male of the duo stared her down. the blonde had often come across others during her time traveling, but it always was a gamble. sometimes it went well and she was left off on her way, other times she had to run. though she hadn't died just yet, she still had to play her cards carefully. river decided playing it cool would be the best option-- confident, yet not threatening-- yeah.. yeah, that'll work.

she opened her mouth and began to say something along the lines of 'im no threat' before the female's gaze froze her in place. the rock-hard and rather cold expression of the other intimidating her quite a bit. river watched as the ravenette flipped out the blade of her knife, very threateningly speaking to her companion. widening her eyes, the blonde shakes her head, "no no no. he doesn't know me, " she raises her voice slightly, struggling to hide the bit of panic within her tone. she didnt want to be the reason why this guy got hurt-- or be a target herself.

kicking the zombie body out from behind the car and into view, river steps out, revealing the entirety of herself as she keeps her baseball bat by her side. though she didnt want to drop her weapon just yet, she kept a loose grip upon the bat, attempting to signal cautious peace. the blonde takes a breath, hoping to calm her pounding heart as she speaks, "i really don't know him. im just trying to get to the city. grab some supplies. survive." she stares back at the other girl, taking a moment to examine her before blinking, "if you really want, i can get out of your guys' hair. i really dont want to start anything." the last comment was followed by a dry laugh. these people looked much more experienced than she was, it was a bit scary to say the least.

There were a grand total of three things that made Kenzie happy in this rotten flesh infested world. The first was killing zombies, because she could pretend it was the one who turned her parents, so that was therapeutic in a way. The second was her motorbike. It was a little unorthodox riding a motorbike through streets filled with the monsters that rushed towards sound. But that didn't matter, they could never keep up. And the third was Jerran's commentary on the radio. It was likely the only thing that had kept her sane all this time. Kenzie usually had a small, portable radio clipped onto her jeans, a pair of tattered headphones attached so she could hear his amusing nonsense. But alas, this morning she awoke to the earpieces working no more. And that meant a trip across the city to the electronics store.

So here Kenzie was, speeding down the relatively empty highway, dodging a broken down car or zombie corpse every so often. Three moving figures on the horizon caught her eye. Were the zombies, or were they people? The former she could deal with easily, but the latter? Three people waiting on a highway just spelt out an ambush. As she drew closer, the young woman threw her head back and laughed. Who the hell wore heeled boots in a zombie apocalypse? That was ridiculous. Any concern of it being a trap immediately diminished. With a wicked grin, she veered off the asphalt and onto the dirt that lined the highway, kicking it up so a flurry of dirt coated the three. Did she feel bad about it? Absolutely not. Kenzie threw them the peace sign before speeding away. If the world was going to take everything good away from her, she may as well have a little fun while she was alive.

On mobile again, sorry

"What? No I don't know her." Jackson replied to Aileen, giving her a questioning look. Before a few seconds went by his eyes were back on the stranger as she stepped out from behind the car, trying to appear non-threatening. Jackson did the same, but he felt that maybe Aileen would try something but he wasn't even sure about that, he didn't know her well enough. "Ay, I ain't her guy." Jackson said to the other young woman holding the base ball bat, "I'm trying to survive same as you, I want no trouble here." He spoke for himself. If Aileen wanted to fight this poor girl, fine that was her choice. However Jackson would probably try to stop her seeing as the other seemed to not have bad intentions but like before it could be a trick.

Suddenly in the distance came the roaring on an engine, a motorbike. Whoever was driving it must have been moving at a good clip because they got to where the three of them were in no time and on top of that coated them in dirt from the side of the highway before speeding off again. That made Jackson very pissed off. Jackson took his ball cap off to shake his hair out before putting it back on, wiping his face and clothes off. "Y'all better get out of here before some zombies come, damn it!" Jackson started walking away from both of them, towards the city where the motorbike had sped off towards. The man put his knife away and slipped the rifle off his shoulder and held on to it, pointing it at the ground. He pulled the lever to load another bullet in the firing chamber. For the zombies and if Aileen or the other woman wanted to try anything.
