it seemed much to olive that the girl she was trailing was doing her best to get rid of her with all the turns and twists she was performing. rather than that of trying to focus on keeping up with them and simply ignoring her surrounding, she stopped, a little ticked off over the matter before she noticed someone else seemed to have her back in this case. if something happened to verose, natalie would for sure blame olive but at this rate, olive had little time for games of keep away, it was a waste of energy that could be used for other things. two different men in one day, it seemed rather odd to her that they had not seen them in the days prior on their own scouting trips. honestly, the young woman was a little worried for natalie. she had lured the revived into a building that she hoped the woman knew well, otherwise she had simply trapped herself. if olive had gone, she would have held a similar fate, knowing nothing of the ins and outs of the building she had disappeared into.

gaze focused on the dark skinned male who seemed keen on helping rather than just venturing off, she moved forward, killing as she went and retrieving her lost arrows as best she could. arrows were not in short supply if you could simply find wood and two stones with some twine. in her earlier years, she had learned how to craft them and her interest in long distance weapons seemed to have helped her to this day. her foot was pressed against the chest of a now completely still revived as she yanked out the arrow. with a quick glance around, she continued to venture in the direction she had last seen the man, deciding a little thanks was needed if he was friendly enough. olive had no issue putting a arrow into anyone that dare threatened her life. this was much of a dog eat dog type of world anyway and every now and then she would attempt to help if she could.

the moments where she could not have helped often plagued her, though she made sure no one would know of them. olive had an overall friendly facade going on where she seemed not affected by the dreadful events that lead her to where she was now. when one watched their parents work their way into their own graves and become victims of the revived just to provide for their only living child, well, things could get pretty dark in the mind of the child that was involved. sometimes she did wonder what would have been if her brother had not died of fever at the age of three. a lot of what ifs could really put someone down and lose hope quick without control.

then there were the moments were survival was more important than that of saving another person. those decisions could haunt someone to the point of breaking. between risking your life to save someone too far gone from saving to putting a arrow in your best friend's head after he was bitten trying to show off for you. yeah, olive had a pretty messed up beginning when the world decided to turn the tables on the human race for messing with mother nature. it had its toll. of course not one person knew of any of these things, she made sure not to bring it up and simply work her way forward and forget the past. dwelling on it would harm her more than it would to her any good.

the young woman continued forward until she was within a decent and respectable distance towards any stranger. "friend or foe?" she questioned, as quietly as she possibly could without attracting anymore unneeded attention. that was the last thing that they needed. her bow was down but drawn, ready to move if needed in case william was more of a threat to her than the revived that lingered the streets. the threat of a herd of them seemed to be a dying thought, as they separated and ambled about, a purpose no longer around for them to continue.

What did the sound of animated dead people falling into a home in the ground do? Attract more animated dead people. "Cool. Cool, cool. Cool cool cool cool cool."Nat grumbled to herself, more annoyed than anything. Knowing that Olive and Ro could take care of the stranger, she decided to trap as many of the dead as possible. She dropped low to the ground, as she circled the hole, pulling a few beams of wood back to make it bigger. As she watched a few more stumble towards the house, she felt a pang of regret. Nat had never gotten herself seriously hurt on a run, but she had also never had such a bad feeling about one of her stunts before. Her stomach heaved, but she didn't give it a chance to bother her. In a burst of energy, she backed herself up against what looked to be a solid wall, picking up one of the charred beams and guiding a revived across from her towards the cavern until it lost it's footing and fell in. It was easy. It gave her some hope. "We should make a moat." She yelled to her hungry victims in the basement, groaning and stumbling over each other to reach up to her.

"Welcome, friends. Leave your coats at the door." She called to two more dead that filed in, deadpanning and in a monotone voice, she continued, "Wow, you're not even going to take your shoes off? This carpet is new. Well, it was new. Probably." She kicked at the floor beneath her, but decided putting her weight on it was test enough. In fact, it wasn't exactly ideal. What was keeping the part she was standing on from falling in like it had across from her? Deciding she didn't have many options, she shrugged. She led another biter into the hole just as others started breaking through the wall next to her. It was time to go.

Her eyes scanned, rather frantically for open exits. It wouldn't be long before the big guys showed up. She needed a distraction. She grabbed the next dead by the middle and knocked them over, leaving them to teeter on the edge of the newly-renovated basement entrance for a moment before sliding in. Pulling her lighter from her pocket, she flicked it open and gave the flame a disappointed look before she tossed it into the hole. It was a stab in the dark, but she had gotten lucky again. It immediately lit the clothes of one of the dead that had been pushed to the bottom - used as a step for the others that were starting to pile on top of each other to get out. Soon, the insulation lit as well, quickly enveloping what now looked like a cute little portal to hell.

"I'm out. You guys suck. That was such a cool lighter. It was like the movies. Then again, I didn't need to look any more like a character from Grease." She spoke mostly to herself, staying deathly still for a beat while the dead were drawn towards the light and sound. Seeing an opening, she darted to a broken out window, shoving another body out of the way to more or less toss herself through it. The glass caught the side of her jeans and ripped through her thigh, but she quickly decided it was a small price to pay. Stumbling the first few steps out to the street, she heard the floor start to give way and the splintering of wood. She didn't marvel at her destruction for long. She quickly found herself on the street where the initial scuffle went down. Nat had missed the party. She took a few more steps to a nearby building and leaned back against it to catch her breath.

007 - wandering eyes and a weary smile

Verose smiles at him softly, glad he wasn't too upset with her. It probably seemed odd; how calm she was in a situation like this. But she didn't mind. It was just another part of her carefree nature. She then looks around, worried about Natalie. Rose was genuinely scared for her, and she knew deep down she'd never be able to forgive herself if Nat got hurt. After a few moments, she snaps back to reality and looks at Gabe. This time though, she subconsciously studied his features; curly dark brown hair and eyes that sent a chill down her spine. Despite his cheeky grin, she felt something off about him. She studies him a bit longer without even thinking about it. Fair skin, full eyebrows. Muscular but lean body. If it weren't for the fact that they were in the midst of looming danger, she'd even consider him generally attractive. Not like it was bad to have a little eye candy around though, just for fun, nothing serious. Or so that's what she thought as of now.

After a moment, she snaps out of it, realizing she had totally spaced out and totally just checked him out. She tries to hide her embarrassment by laughing it off, "Ahem, well.." She murmurs, silently hoping she hadn't looked like a total weirdo. "Are you alone or do you have people too?" She asks curiously, trying to distract him from her little eye escapade down his body. She was usually an observant person, finding beauty in the smallest and simplest of things. She then looks around again, still worried about Natalie. "And uh, if you don't mind, I'd like to go friend Nat. I'm worried about her. But you don't have to come with me if you don't want to."

γ€š Dexter & Tiger 〛﹝ one/one ﹞

The lieutenant awoke abruptly. It was awfully early and he often has gotten into this habit of going to bed late and uncontrollably waking up early. He groaned as he rolled over in his bunk. Dexter sighed. He sometimes struggled to grasp the fact of where he was, who he was. After a few hours of laying there lifelessly, he swung his feet out from his bed and attempted to stand on the hard concrete floor. The soldier sighed and headed to a simple training room and began his routined work out, training and general muscle memory practice to help his body awaken faster.

As the day continued on, Dexter’s services were not needed often. He was barely spoken to, then again, he barely spoke either. After a few hours, the Lieutenant decided to finish his training. Sweat perspired from his skin and he panted heavily. Grabbing a towel, Dexter wiped his face and left the room. His eyes wandered to the exit of their base camp and he saw three figures. He subconsciously felt his feet turn towards them and he made his way to them. As he arrived beside Aubree and furrowed his brows as he managed to catch the last sentence Sai said β€œNo, we most certainly are not.” his tone was stern and cold. His face held no expression and his eyes drew blank. The dead have risen, and hell has conformed to earth. Dexter glanced his eyes to the two beside him and he locked eyes with Aubree’s satchel β€œGathering are we?”

As Tiger wandered around the vast wasteland. She felt her feet trudge through the snow. She smiled happily and pawed at the snow like a kitten with yarn. TigerLilly enjoyed the soft feeling of thin snow. This was only her second time seeing such a beautiful image, feeling the cold, sweetness that was birthed from the skies above. Snow was everywhere. Tiger left he bed and got into her warmest clothes the moment she recognised the floating white specks.

Hazlyn shook her head with slight frustration, she needed to have someone go and get supplies or go out herself. "Bree, we need to head out," she spoke quietly as she moved so that no one was on her left side, "I don't know when the weather is going to become worse." She looked at the males in the group and shook her head, slightly ignoring Dexter. The brunette turned her head to look outside to see the snow already falling harder onto the ground, causing the ground to become covered in another layer of snow. She let out a huff, knowing at this rate they would probably get caught somewhere in the snow.

william bent over and pulled his dagger out of the revived's flesh, flinging another knife at a nearby attacker. the blade barely skimmed the side of its head, and he muttered an oath under his breath. if only he had known that an event like this was happening today, he could have practiced his aim. william shifted his weight to one side as he threw another knife at the same revived, this time making impact. a strange, pale, blood-like substance oozed out of the wound, and william shivered as he realized it looked like something out of the show dr pimple popper, which was, in william's own words, a curse from hell. his stepmother had always loved that show for some odd reason. she had told him that she found people popping pimples was quite satisfying, when in reality it was disgusting.

william snapped back to the present when he realized he had only one throwing knife left in his hand, as one was now lost in the forming mob of revived and the other was buried in a wall somewhere. his heart leapt into his throat as he realized there were way too many revived to take down with a single knife. there was only one option: improvise his strategy. william glanced around for a moment, searching for objects that could be of use, although he always made sure to keep an eye on the approaching crowd. his eyes picked out an old rope that was sitting near a dumpster and a brick that had fallen out of a wall somewhere.

he jogged over, dodging outstretched arms, before snatching up the rope and brick and tying a secure constrictor knot around the middle of the brick. once he had checked that the brick would hold, william ran back over in the general direction of the young woman and began swinging the brick around, hitting any revived that got too close. as he pulled the rope over his shoulder and prepared to swing again, a voice met his ears and he turned, eying the woman wearily. "i could ask you the same thing," william said, raising his voice just enough for her to barely grasp it.

when he finally gave her a response, she rolled her eyes, a smirk growing on her bandanna covered face. "yeah yeah, if a were planning to be a foe i would have put an arrow in you by now. now are you ready to get out of this mess?" she said in response as she glanced around at the lingering revived. the big guys would be coming out soon and she did not want to be here for that. "less you want to fight a couple of the big jokers that are bound to come out with all this noise." she added as she closed the distance between the two, but still giving the strange man his personal space. "name's olive. what's the name dagger boy?" she questioned. she knew he was using throwing knives but she couldn't help the minor nickname that she'd probably no longer remember once she received his name. olive eyed the rope that he had acquired and raised a brow, wondering what exactly he had in store for that. she was not one for lingering here for much longer and her own patience was growing thin. olive did wonder how nat was coping having not seen her from where she was, hoping she had gotten out safe for the matter.

➳ Aubree raised a brow at Sai's friendly answer, wondering why Olivia left without saying anything. She figured that the leader especially would be strict on that, to show how she needed the same safe guards as everyone else. She hoped that the older woman would be fine; with the group's order and organization, a sudden loss of their leader would heavily dent their security and leave disorder in the week following. The girl respected the leader and her skills and, although she didn't feel any strong personal attachment, she still wished her well. Nevertheless, she figured Sai was right. The next thing he said was also terrifying correct, and that sent a chill down her spine. She sometimes managed to convince herself that everything was fine and normal in the brief moments before she fell asleep and when she was barely awake. It was a bittersweet fantasy that she used to entertain herself.

Bree jumped when another voice joined the conversation, mentally scolding herself for not hearing the lieutenant approach. They needed to be alert now, especially while gathering. Missing any detail, however small, could end up fatal in the worst scenario. She stiffened at Dexter's tone, his words colder than the landscape around them. She didn't know the man well and didn't exactly trust him. There was obviously a reason for his rank, but that didn't necessarily mean she had to enjoy his company. The girl gave him a subtle nod of acknowledgement towards his statement and patted her satchel when his gaze locked on it. "Yup," she responded shortly, painfully aware of Hazlyn's sudden withdrawal. She met the doctor's gaze and sent what she hoped was an apologetic glance. She didn't mean to hinder their progress; she had intended to ask the question and be on their way. Following the other woman's gaze, she scowled at the snow. She recognized that, if they wanted to go scavenge, they needed to do it now. Even Sai confirmed it with his statistics. "So, if you'll excuse us, we'll get going before the weather gets bad. Thanks for the information Sai," the girl pulled her hood over her brown hair and gave a polite smile to the two men. She stayed close to Hazlyn, waiting for her to lead them away.

Gabriel Roland

location:; city

β•š_________________________╝

➒ Gabriel raised his head as he felt prickling along his body, telling him that he wasn't unseen. At first, he quickly scanned the surrounding area. If they were tracked down by more revived humans, they needed to move fast. His abrupt alertness faded as he realized the gaze was that of Rose's. He watched her watch him, wondering what was going through her head. Most people would scan others for weaknesses, an old injury or valuable inventory that could be stolen. It was the smart thing to do, a way to get useful resources or quickly judge whether to flee a person or not. But for some strange reason, he doubted Rose would do that. The way she had stayed behind even when injured and urged to run spoke strongly about the raw humanity she still held. It was a rare thing. People were already vicious before the revivals. They would do anything for fortune or fame, destroy any bond and tear any challenger down to the bare ground. The medical "break through" only multiplied this tenfold. With their literal lives at stake, people would do virtually anything to save their own hide for another day. Something about the soft genuine smile Rose gave contradicted this lesson that was drilled into Gabe's head from childhood. It unsettled him, seeing genuine honor in a person, a survivor. It gave him expectations to meet, to be as virtuous as them, and he hated that. Looking out for himself was easy. Find the most beneficial solution, and continue doing that. Trying to protect others though? Hardest task in the whole apocolyptic world.

The man was drawn from his uneasy thoughts by an awkward laugh, a dead giveaway of embarrassment. He cracked a small smile, more of a smirk than a grin, as he realized what his companion was probably so embaressed about. Being observed and judged on physic traits didn't bother him so much, never had. It was judgements on his intelligence and sheer strength, both mentally and physically, that felt awful. Those judgements made him feel vulnerable, weak, and that was something he never wanted to feel. To lessen her embaressment, he ignored her eyes' adventure down his body and kept a friendly grin. He couldn't pretend he never noted her physical traits anyway; blonde hair full of volume, defined features that combined bold and delicate. In the end they were just physical traits, nothing with real benefits in this cruel place, but he did admit someone pleasant to look at wasn't bad. It was startling seeing anyone really, when one was alone. At her question, he gave a nonchalant shrug. "Just me. Never joined a group." Never trusted one enough to. Of course, other people had perks, such as being an extra safety net out in the city with both provisions and protection. And, realizing this, Gabe decided that sticking near this group wouldn't necessarily be too bad. He nodded at Rose's mention of Nat, who he remembered ran off pursued by four revived. "Sure, let's go check up on her. She had quite the handful back there," he admitted. It was reckless to come in so abruptly and loudly, but admirably brave. He wouldn't mind seeing what her actions had brought.

Verose let's a smile slip from her face as he smirks after her awkward laugh. At that moment she knew he definitely knew what she had been up to. Once he gives her the okay on going to find Natalie, she nods. Her arm was still hurting pretty badly, but she knew the pain would fade. She doesn't allow it to be a dead giveaway on her face, but it was still a bit noticeable considering her fingers were twitching every now and then due to it. "Alright, let's go then." She gets up and looks around, trying to think of a good way to back track to the beginning without going through the hoard. She leads herself and Gabe down some different alleys since she knew this area pretty well.

After a few twists and turns, they end up on the street were the initial mishap occurred. Rose looks around, in hopes of spotting Natalie. She was worried about her, and her stomach twisted in knots when she thought that Nat might be hurt because of what she did. But that's when she sees her; leaning on a building nearby. Verose's face lights up, but her mood drops when she sees Natalie's bleeding thigh. She runs over to her and gives her a big carefree hug before looking her up and down, checking to see where else she might be wounded. "I'm so sorry Nat. It was all my fault and now you're hurt because of it.." Rose frowns at Nat's bleeding thigh before kneeling down in the snow to look at it. It didn't look like a scratch from the revived, more like something had cut her. She glances up at Nat, "What happened?" She asks quietly, not wanting to draw more attention to the three of them.

Hazlyn nodded her head at the males and Aubree. "The farthest we will go is the pharmacy on the next street. If anything happens we will try and find somewhere safe over there," she informed the males so that they were informed of where the two females would be headed. She wanted to make sure that if anything were to happen, they would have the location of the two. "Come on Bree," she mumbled as she checked to make sure she had her weapon under her jacket. The brunette knew you couldn't go anywhere without a weapon now days. With a huff, the female walked out of the door, turning to go towards the next street.
