it seemed that her quiet breakfast was not going to happen today, though it barely happened to be honest. when the voice of a member, hazlyn to be exact, reached her ears in a greeting. olive had just put the spoon in her mouth as she was greeted. putting the spoon back in the can, she offered a smile until she was finished with her own food. by the time she had swallowed what little was on the spoon, garth came into the picture and also gave a simple greeting. now able to finally speak, she did so. "morning everyone." she said in response, finally getting a simple and generic greeting of her own out there as everyone migrated into the makeshift kitchen they themselves had built. going back to her food, another voice was added to the rest. instead of speaking, she simply gave a nod of acknowledgement to natalie. more focused on her food and getting it finished rather than speaking to everyone for the time being.

when the can was mainly empty, she walked to the end of the large room and then slowly opened the back door to the small warehouse. glancing around, she quickly threw the can toward the dumpster and it landed inside with a soft thud. olive had incredibly good aim and it came in handy when she had a bow or gun with her finger on the trigger. heading back inside, she decided to check on who had been on guard for the majority of the night, even though they had two to three hour shifts. heading out, olive spotted verose. "you should probably get some rest, you look like you're gonna get some frostbite." she said to the other woman. that being said, olive went to sit down beside her and glanced around the area, her eyes searching for those that did not belong.

002 - no rest for the wicked

Verose lets out a soft sigh, her breath crystallizing in the air upon release. Her fingers were numb, but she didn't mind it. After a few minutes, she hears footsteps, and becomes a bit more alert even though her heavy eyelidss wanted nothing more than to close. She relaxes again as she sees Olivia, and forces a cheerful smile, even though doing so was not exactly the most fun thing to do when you're half asleep. Her thick british accent rings out through the wintery air, "Yeah, I probably should head inside I suppose. I know my shift ended earlier, but whoever's shift was suppose to be after me never showed up." She then takes one last look at the rising sun, before getting up and stretching out her arms. "I also need to invest in finding some warm gloves or something, before my poor fingers fall off." She grins at Olivia before walking inside.

Once inside, she heads towards the kitchen, and hesitates as she hears multiple voices. But when she hears that of Natalie's, she smiles. They had been friends for a while, as long as she can remember, and it always brightened her mood being around her. She struts into the kitchen, trying not to act like she was about to pass out from lack of sleep. She glances at everyone else in the kitchen, not paying them much attention though currently. Her fingertips had warmed up a bit, now a lighter pink as she walks over to Nat who was leaning on a table, looking quite tired. "You look tired Nat, you should get some rest, don't ya think?" Verose says as she draws near to her, lightfully and playfully flicking her in the back of her neck to tease her and announce her presence. Verose had always enjoyed messing with her, her reactions were enjoyable most of the time, unless she decided to get Verose back for whatever she had done. Then sometimes it hurt and made her think twice about doing it again. But it was all in good spirit at the end of the day.

Immediately upon hearing Verose's voice, the corners of Nat's mouth twitched. Her hand fled to the back of her neck when she was flicked, chuckling as she shook her head at the woman. Not willing to argue how tired she was, she grabbed her backpack and sat on the table, rummaging through it. "Come here, you gremlin. I found something good. Thought you might want first dibs." From the depths of her backpack, she procured a can of strawberries. Giving it the same confused look she had on her face when she found it, she unscrewed the mason jar, listening carefully for the pop. It wasn't like her usual treasures she brought back to show Verose - factory defective stuffed animals, strange lamps or paintings - but it may have been her best find yet. It had been quite some time since she had seen a real strawberry, and who knew when they'd see another. "I imagine this only has about a 50/50 chance of killing you." She offered a small grin, satisfied by the sound the jar made and the smell that filled their makeshift kitchen that they were safe.

She snatched a fork out of the pile and plunged it into the jar before handing it off to her friend. Deciding to double back and see if she had forgotten anything in her bag, she shook it out only to find a nice pen she had snatched days prior, and an unsettling amount of dirt.

003 - a sweet surprise

Verose chuckles, "A gremlin? How cruel." She says, playfully putting a hand over her heart as if she were genuinely hurt by the comment. Her eyes then watch as Nat pulls out her black and worn backpack. It was always interesting to see what she had brought back, and this time was no different. She watches, curiously, as Nat pulls out the mason jar full of strawberries. Verose's hazel eyes immediately light up in joy and surprise; she had always loved fruits. Although it wasn't like most things Natalie would bring her, she was very delighted in the find. Finding real fruits like that was rare. "Leave it to you to find the last remaining strawberries on the earth." She grins sarcastically as she takes the fork adorned with a strawberry from Natalie.

"If it kills me, I'll die happy." She smirks and then bites into the strawberry, the sickly sweet flavor filling her mouth. A small sigh of utter bliss slips from her plump lips, now moist from the juice of the berry. She relaxes against the table, taking in the last piece of the strawberry that was left on the fork. It was delicious compared to most things they'd had around here lately. It was fresh. Although cherries were her favorite, strawberries were definitely a hard second. She then glances back at Nat, and stifles a laugh as she watches all the dirt fall out. "Well if we ever need an absurd amount of dirt, I guess you're also our girl to go to as well." She smiles and then gets another strawberry, scarfing it down rather quickly compared to the other times she'd eaten something. Usually she took small and careful bites, but this was an entirely different situation. After eating the second strawberry, she rests the fork back in the jar. Her eyes were still quite heavy, and small darkened circles had formed beneath them, but the surprise from Nat had seemed to wake her up a bit. "Thanks Nat. You're the best." She smiles at her thankfully before pulling up a chair and sitting down, resting her head on the table.

as william navigated the snowy city streets, the sun began to rise higher into the stretch of blue that was the sky, and the snow beneath his feet became slush. he stumbled across the pavement uncomfortably, constantly having to shake the melting snow from between his toes. the small bruise that he had gained on his shoulder from tripping over a hidden remote control car had grown to the size of a baseball and was aching horribly. william rubbed it, wincing as he pressed a bit too hard on the broken blood vessels. as he rounded the corner, a black blur sent him stumbling backwards in surprise. instinctively, william reached around into his backpacks side pocket and pulled out a swiss army knife, holding it upright in his right hand.

his dark brown eyes flickered nervously as he eyed the area and he shifted his weight from foot to foot. he did this for some time before whatever was out there revealed itself. a small black cat strolled out of a nearby alleyway, it's bright amber eyes skimming over william. he let out the breath he had been holding as he gazed back at the cat. he saw something similar to intelligence in its eyes as it trotted over on light paws. it seemed unbothered by the snow as it sat down near william's feet, gazing up at him.

"you scared me half to death," he scolded the cat quietly, leaning down and scratching it behind the ears. the cat didn't meow or purr in delight, but it did slit its eyes in pleasure. "you must be hungry," william observed, noting that he could see each of the cat's ribs almost perfectly. the cat didn't respond, it just looked at him with a knowingness, its whiskers twitching. william let his backpack slide off his shoulders and he rummaged through it, pulling out his belongings. he only had a few edible items: a can of refried beans, a single strip of jerky, and a container of mashed potato flakes. he pulled the jerky out of the ziplock and set it in front of the cat, who scarfed it down quickly. william slung his bag back over his shoulders and started off again before realizing that the cat was following him.

"i don't have any more food for you," he whispered, continuing on. he looked over his shoulder a few minutes later to find that the cat was still there. its tail was held high and its eyes shone happily, and just for a moment, that was reflected in william's eyes as well. he did need some company, although he expected the cat would be on its way as soon as the fact that he had no more food for it got through its thick skull. but in the meantime, it would be nice to have another living thing around that wasn't trying to kill him.

(( haha this is so long and he hasn't even tagged anyone :')

Hazlyn Walsh- 24 years- Doctor- Tags; Open

Hazlyn sighed and walked towards the infirmary. She hoped no one got injured today, for she would have to get more supplies soon. The young brunette shook her head as she started to go thro85th the cabinets, making a list of everything she was running out of, and everything she didn't have and would need. With it being cold, she was positive that sober or later some one would come in sick or hurt.

➳ Aubree rubbed her arms, watching the landscape below through the broken window before her. The building kept the group protected from the brunt of the colder seasons, but the walls could only do so much against the chilling breeze. She longed for the heater she always took for granted, the ability to simply shut out what her primitive ancestors couldn't escape. Winter was hard, she was realizing. Snow lay a dead blanket over the city, broken by faint tracks around the building. The worse was yet to come, and that was pretty hard to imagine considering what events had led up to this. Just the thought of it sent her away from the window, away from the view of the empty city. She wondered why she always looked through it. All she ever saw was a remnant of the past, bittersweet and terrifying. Perhaps she wished that one day everything would be normal, but even she knew that wouldn't happen. All it took to bring this bold world to its knees was an attempt to improve what was already good. A noble attempt, but still a failed one. Bree chewed her bottom lip and shook her head, shoving these thoughts from her mind. Anger would not help them now.

The girl made her way through the building, hands gripping the satchel slung across her shoulders, and headed to where she was most needed. The infirmary. She still had much to learn from her mentor, the only other person of the group with any medical knowledge, and she knew how serious these skills could be. She could only hope that she wouldn't see anything alarming for a long time yet. The girl wondered if Hazlyn was there quite yet. The doctor of the group was young, only two years older than Bree herself, but the entire group was fairly young anyway. They were the prime out of the population, physically. Mentally? No one was ready mentally. Listening to the silence, so unnatural in the city, she wondered how all the group members were. Hopefully no one would get sick. In the worsening season, the last thing they need are runny noses and uncontrollable sneezes. Nothing would hinder them more than aching muscles when escaping a revived. When Aubree finally reached the infirmary, in which she realized Hazlyn was in, she asked, "Is everyone still okay? No sickness, no injuries?" This was always the first thing she asked, unless she immedientally saw an answer. Watching the doctor check the cabinets, she realized with an awful sinking feeling that they would need to try and find more resources in the future while they still could.

➒ Gabriel scowled at the snow under his shoes, the crisp white beginning to melt into gray slush. Though he wore several layers of thick clothing, winter was undesirable. It simply had too many disadvantages. For one, running becomes near to impossible. The thickening snow, ever slippery, slows down a person drastically. It hides paths, turns the city into a completely new- and completely deadly- environment. The last thing the solitude needs is a slow pace and hidden paths. He had slipped while sprinting from a revived the other day, nearly tripped, and the only thing that kept his heart beating was a quick throw of a knife. Only one revived had been after him, thankfully, but it still gave him a fright. So now, he made sure to be more careful, more observant of his surroundings. As he stepped lightly on the pavement, his dark head swiveled to each building, icy eyes scanning the windows and crevices. Any sound brought his daggers up, and that was the one perk of winter. Sound carried easily over the frozen terrain. When a voice made itself known, Gabe stiffened and narrowed in on the source. A dark-skinned male, around his age, talking to a cat. If not for his wariness, he would have laughed.

The solitude watched as the man pulled out some provisions from his bag, a respectable amount of food for a day or two. The gift of food seemed to make an impact on the animal and, as the man went to leave, so did the feline. Gabriel couldn't help but give a light chuckle. The interaction seemed like one of those Disney films his siblings always loved watching. The memory drove away the winter chill for a moment, but it slammed back harder than ever once the man pulled himself into the present again. The smile disappeared. He couldn't afford to distract himself with mirages of the past. Survival depended on focus, and he needed to focus on the moment. Gabe decided to follow the man and his animal companion as they left, stalling softly on the drier patches of asphalt. He would have attempted to be quieter had he been following someone who gave him a threatening aura. However, the man ahead didn't seem intimidating. After all, he gave a stray cat some jerky and Gabe could see the humanity in said action. It had been a while since he'd interacted with another living human. He wouldn't mind some conversation, however short or hostile. It was much preferred over constant silence.

Hazlyn spun around, her hand over her heart. "Don't scare me like that Aubree," she spoke as she went back to looking through the last of the cabinets. "And to answer your question, so far no one is sick yet, but the weather is going to get worse so we know that won't last long." she sighed as she lay her paper on one of the counters before turning around to look at the younger female. "We are running out of medication though. I should probably go out tomorrow to try and find some more." she stated with a slight frown on her face.

A small grin slipping onto her face at the dirt comment, she shrugged, "What can I say? I can find anything."Zipping her backpack back up, she snatched her jacket from the ground and eyed it for a moment, trying to decide whether or not she'd go back out to look for more food before the remainder of their world started waking up. Slipping her leather jacket on and slinging her emptied backpack over it, she leaned back up against the table. "Something tells me that a sleeping bag might be a more efficient place to sleep," She thought out loud, snatching up a strawberry on the fork and popping it into her mouth before she returned the jar, setting it just in the other woman's reach. Hypocrisy was an art form she had more than mastered.

In all honesty, Nat wasn't sure she could sleep if she tried - she preferred to keep moving until her body gave her no other options. That kept her from curling up in her own sleeping bag and letting her thoughts run wild for hours while she tried to sleep. It had been like that long before the miracle cure or any of the havoc that led up to it, the end of times just gave her a air-tight excuse to keep moving. There was always work to be done. "Really though," She spoke after a pause, "You should get some proper rest so no one mistakes you for one of the revived." A half smirk drew across her face as she fixed her collar and pulled her arms up above her head to stretch.

004 - the strangers in the city; a dangerous game

Postby Evelysia » Tue Oct 30, 2018 1:44 pm

      ( β˜… )──𝐕 𝐄 𝐑 𝐎 𝐒 𝐄 ,

Verose smiles at Natalie, "Obviously I never expected anything less from you." She then lifts her head up from the table, her dirty blonde locks falling softly around her shoulder as Nat makes a comment about how she had laid her head down. She huffs, and then smirks mischievously, "Thank you, my dear captain obvious." Her voice was laced with obvious sarcastic mockery towards Nat. Afterwards, she glances around the kitchen, and then looks down at her fingers that were previously cold and seemed to almost be frostbitten. They had warmed up, and no longer looked like they were about to fall off. Her semi-long but neatly trimmed nails begin to tap on the table due to her growing boredom. It added to her sleepiness. After Nat pops off with her next daring comment, Rose does her best not to laugh, considering it was a pretty good one. "Oh so you have jokes now?" She chuckles, and then rubs her eyes. "You should be the one getting sleep, miss hypocrite. Besides, I'm going out to scavenge a bit anyways." Deep down Rose knew it wasn't the best idea with how tired she was, but in the end she knew the cold would wake her right up.

She gets up from the table, giving Nat a small partial hug before walking away. It was Rose's way of bidding someone farewell for a bit. Although she didn't do it to everyone, she mainly only did it to people she knew pretty well or was close to. She then makes her way to her small room and grabs the essentials she'd need to scavenge. Her worn grey backpack, a dagger that she stuffs down into her semi-fashionable boots that were laced with fur on the inside, and her pistol that she shoves gently into it's concealed holster on her side. She then picks up her fur-hooded dark faded purple parka, and puts it on, pulling her hair out of it gently. Afterwards, she grabs her earmuffs and slides them on. The last thing she needed were gloves, but sadly she had none. Thankfully the parka did have pockets though. She then makes her way out of the compound, immediately being pounded with a breeze of chilly wind. She pulls the furred hood of her parka up, and then makes her way through the city's fallen buildings and darkened alleyways.

After wandering around a bit, having collected a few cans of assorted food, she begins to hear footsteps crunching through the snow that had fallen on the ground. She immediately becomes alert, her hand resting on her pistol, ready to withdraw it at any given moment. A few seconds later, she eases around the corner of the semi-fallen building she had been walking around, and looks down the pathway ahead. She sees two figures, one a dark-skinned male, the other, a light-skinned one. She hesitates, not knowing what she should do. Although the two men did not seem like they were friends, she didn't want to walk into the middle of a fight. Or possibly get overpowered by the both of them. Meeting strangers in the city was rare, and it was dangerous to bring them to the group since the intentions of strangers weren't always certain. Just as she's thinking about how quiet she should be, an innocent little snowflake drifts down, and that's when she realizes the urge to sneeze was upon her. No matter how hard she tried to hold it back, it still happened. A small noise from her epidemic rings out through the dead silent area, and she immediately dips her head back around the corner, hoping the two men wouldn't pinpoint where it came from.

Although, that wasn't the least of her worries. The noise had not only potentially attracted the two men to her location, it had also indefinitely attracted 2 revived. They begin quickly making their way towards her from a building across the desolate road, taking her by surprise a bit. She hadn't expected any to be nearby, especially during the early morning hours. "They must've been trying to hide in that building.." She thinks to herself before leaping into action. She knew the creatures were attracted to her due to the noise she made, and she also knew it'd probably alert the two men. The last thing she wanted was for them to go after those two, and so she makes a swift run for it down the street she had previously been walking on, leading the beasts away from the two men. She hadn't had many run ins with revived, but she knew it was either her or them. She pauses as she's running, looking back swiftly and pulling her pistol from her holster, she shoots. It hits one of them in it's chest region, and she mutters a curse under her breath at her aim. She then shoots again, this time the bullet goes straight through the skull of the first revived. It drops to the snowy ground below, it's undead life leaving it's body. She lets out a sigh of relief, but the second one still chases her. As she begins to start running again, she trips over an object buried in the snow. "Just like a movie gone wrong.. yet again. It's always the blonde!" She thinks to herself, doing her best to make this bad situation a little less hard on herself. She tries to get up quickly, but the beast is already on her, knocking her down. She shoots at it, temporarily disabling it long enough for her to slide away and duck into an alleyway before she drops down, steadying her breathing, and hoping it doesn't find her behind the rubble she was crouched by. She notices her arm which was now bleeding with a cut from the beast from when it knocked her down. It wasn't too shallow, but not too deep either. The droplets stain the snow beneath her in a red-ish orange color as she crouches, praying it does not find her.

      sorry about this being so long, haha. ^^;
