That lunch was absolutely delicious. Cilan just hoped he didn't fall asleep at the watchtower because of his full stomach. He placed a hand on his stuffed stomach as his dragon, Senegal, carried him on her back through the village streets. She kept making low
cluck cluck noises of mild disappointment to scold him. Usually Cilan would protest and try to justify his gluttony, but this time he'd gone too far and ate everything on his plate.
Now, normally that wouldn't be an issue. But these neighbors were incredibly generous. They didn't want to serve Cilan any less than they served the mother of the family. Said mother, Cassia Jin, was a towering, broad-shouldered Helios with arms thicker than Cilan's legs. And these neighbors provided Cilan with equal portions as literal Mama Bear.
At first, he thought his stomach would explode. He felt better now. Of course, this had taught him a lesson for next time. Or maybe not... their food was pretty darn good.
The neighbors had started this tradition since Cilan returned to the village.
"It won't do for a growing boy to survive on fruits," Andenken, the father, had fussed over him. Senegal had noticed Andenken's worry and brought him a ripe grapefruit. This seemed to prove his point, so the family pretty much adopted Cilan as their own.
The boy still preferred to sleep in the old stone stable with his dragon mother, though. Senegal's feathers were far more warm and snuggly than any bed. Sometimes the family would bring him inside if the weather turned nasty, but mostly the weather was mild. And Cilan wasn't scared of some rumbly old storm. He
liked the rain, especially when his hair would turn into a disaster and spike up in all sorts of wacky angles. Cilan loved to get his hair all ridiculous and jumpscare the kids of Cassia and Anden. Poor little Cashew fell out of his chair once.
Cilan burst out laughing when he remembered the look on that guy's face. Senegal made a rising
churrrrup? noise, as if asking what was up with him.
"Remembered neighbor's boy. Funny face," he told her in dragon tongue. Being raised by Senegal had given him an accent. He was fine when he spoke regular human languages, but his dragon tongue sounded ridiculous. The normally harsh hissing and clicking sounded like soft warbles and chirps in his case. He wondered if the Clematis family's dragons laughed at him sometimes.
Ah, maybe not... the Nyban were so nice and their dragons were probably equally nice. Cilan had to be grateful for the peaceful elves who accommodated his race in this land. Honestly, they were more like angels than elves. Their ivory blonde hair had probably evolved from halos somewhere down the line.
"Are we there yet?" He asked once they'd long left the village. The trek to the watchtower was slightly downhill, as it slanted towards the river. Cilan could get there in fifteen minutes if he ran. Of course, it wouldn't do his stomach justice to run right now.
Cluck cluck. Be patient. Although Senegal didn't speak human words, the context and tone were enough. Cilan huffed out of mock annoyance and nestled further into her fuzzy down. He wasn't sure if he dozed off or not. It was hard to keep track of time while buried in warm feathers.
A brisk warble jolted him to attention. As he rose from the feathers, Cilan let out a loud yawn, which immediately embarrassed him as he realized someone else was already here. A Nyban in all her glory, pointed elf ears and all.
Oh, no! I've made a fool of myself. I'm gonna look like a total slacker now. No, gotta think positive! On your feet!Cilan scrambled off from Senegal's back and tried to salute. He ended up falling onto his butt and looking incredibly goofy. His legs had fallen asleep during the ride. How could a Nyban count on a Helios guardian who could barely even stand up?
Ugh, I'm a mess! This was not at all dignified.
"Uhh whoops! Forgive me for my insolence, ma'am-" He started, then realized who he was freaking out about.
"Oh! Wisteria. What a relief." Cilan collapsed backwards in the grass and let out a barking laugh.
"Sorry for interrupting your grass-braiding there. Ah, hey cut that out!"Chirrup churrr?Cilan shook his head and ducked away from his dragon, who was attempting to preen his hair. That meant his hair was a huge ridiculous disaster. While it was funny to scare his Helios neighbors' kids with, it was not how Cilan wanted to appear before a Nyban. This made it all the more fortunate it was someone he knew. Wisteria was highly respected in the village- she was basically responsible for her entire family of seven. Cilan would often ask to help on the farm by tilling dirt or something like that. They deserved better than a royal fool like Cilan, but it was the best he could do.
"I've come because I want to take up badass guard duties. I'll just be up in the watchtower, if that's okay," He said with a grin, trying not to laugh as he could still hear Senegal softly cooing over his hair. This was the issue of having a dragon as basically an adoptive mother figure.

(OOC: Xia and I discussed Cilan and Wisteria being buddies and having like the best inside jokes ever. XD
If you've changed your mind Xia, let me know and I'll edit this post.)
