"Great, chief, let's take a walk downtown, just you and me." Elena added an exaggerated wink. "Or maybe not, I have [removed] luck with women! Last time I took a girl for a walk I ended that night with a broken nose. She sure could throw a punch, though." She snorted at herself, following along Yoshika's route as the shorter woman swooshed her cloak around and moved in.

"We're taking the low route or you're coming up to mine?" She paused near one of the stacks of boxes and debris that were one of the good spots from switching from street route to the rooftop one, shifting her sniper rifle out of the way, squatting nearby and holding out an arm to Yoshika demonstratively, in case the dark-haired woman decided both to take her up on the offer to go up to the roofs and on the offer of help. Z detested the idea of giving up the high ground, even for the relatively short walk from HQ to the body of the thing she just killed. She didn't particularly think they'd be in huge trouble, because monster or not this was still the B Ring, but it was just that giving up the small advantage of clear sight annoyed her.

Asta Stihlheim||Sygnum Chief||Tagged: Liam
Asta idly sucked on the end of her pen as she shuffled through the papers arranged on her desk. Reports from her lieutennants, none of them very good. Attacks had increased on the outskirts, and all they had left were untried recruits to man the borders. Patrols from the outer rings reported an upsurge in Stark activity as well. Blasted bandits. Why they'd bother to try and be rebels on a planet like this eluded her completely. She understood that some people may not have liked her style of leadership, but she had assumed they would prefer it over starving to death. Crop yields were continuing to fall as the temperature rose, soon they'd have to rely solely on the underground farms to produce food. Hopefully they had enough stored up, but she wasn't sure. Speaking of...

"Stihlheim to Lämmergeier," the chief said, pulling her Communicate from her belt, "what's our inventory like?"

"Ha. Well, I can hope that ya won't give me a reason to break yer nose. But, eh, I'll join ya. It's safer up there anyway." Climbing atop a lower level of boxes, Yoshika felt an overwhelming urge to decline the other woman's offer, and get to the top on her own-- just to show that she could. Yosh almost did, but got stuck on the top box, to short and unable to reach the platform that was her goal. She tried, though. Her callused fingers slipped on the corrugated metal of the roof, but, ever determined, Yosh tried for another embarassing 30 seconds before, with a sigh of resignation, took Elena up on her offer. Finally scambling to her feet with a huff, she said, "Hmmph. I probably could've made it on my own.." Yoshika tried for her best snobbish tone, but she couldn't help back crack a smile and loose the voice when she added, "..after 2-3 hours of trying."

Raye's body hit her bed with a light thwump. She pushed the unruly curls out of her face, staring up at the ceiling. Her newest attempt at forming water based off of the rudimentary elements had once again been a failure. This failure has also resulted in the scientist's loss of half of her left eyebrow from singeing. Sweat crept upon her brow and though she was eager to get back to work, Raye knew that starting again now would only result in frustration. She was not, by far, the best scientist in the Sygnum ranks, though she had had a feeling that she was getting closer to actually being successful. But apparently the success would have to wait for now.

Raye coaxed a breeze to flutter her haphazard bangs, cooling down her now sad excuse of an eyebrow. In the other room she could smell the burning remains of her attempt in the beaker, and resolved to clean it up in a bit. She turned over on her bed so that she was laying prostrate, lifting her head only to prop herself over her journal. She was reluctant to status report this one. As a true Sygnum, she craved technological development and success. Failure always burned. Though usually not quite literally.

"Gee, wasn't meant to be a snub, boss, just a hand. I mean, I'd never stoop so low. It'd be the height of rudeness." She laughed along with the Commander's scrabbling and subsequent attempt at a superior look, but then picked up the pace on their walk - best not to test her patience too much on that. She trotted along the well-traveled route to her sniper perch and past it, occasionally jumping across small gaps or crossing the sheets of metal or stone left as walkways as they made their way to her target. Elena tried to keep an eye around the surroundings, squinting hard at the sun and pulling her hood up to have more shadow.

"Oh, there's the thing. Lucky, no scavs around to contest the kill." Elena stopped at the edge of the building they were in and pointed out the corpse on the street below them, an animal with so much matted fur she had trouble identifying it and who probably came up to her waist before it died. Blood drenched the sand around it, turning it black-brown. She turned around to look for a good way to hop down, finding a closed dumpster nearby that shortened the height they'd have to jump from. Elena looked sideways at Yoshika and smirked challengingly, before jumping down and then hopping from it to street level, crouching with it to absorb the impact but even still failing to get through it unscathed.
"Ow, my shins." She complained, but stood up quickly, wanting to keep a look on the alleys around them that she suddently couldn't see as much out of. "Hey chief! Want me to catch you?" She turned to her commander still on the roof and opened her arms wide in teathric manner. No way she'd put up with that, though, and god knew a woman that athletic didn't need more help than an occasional hand.

He brought up his Communicate as it ringed and upon seeing the name set the box he was sorting through down immediately. "Ma'am." Liam opened up in formal tone, willing himself to wake up. The last thing he wanted was embarass himself in front of a peerless respected superior such as Asta Stihlheim. He looked back down at his clipboard and leafed back to the start of it, stepping to the side of the corridor to let two busy officers carrying a heavy crate pass while he talked.

"Our water supplies are less than ideal, Chief Stihlheim. We might last, if we decommission some of the farms. I know the bee farms have at least ten hives that can be culled to spare the cost." Unhappiness colored the matter-of-fact tone of his report at this - it felt rather like betrayal. It'd been years since he'd been working primarily as a beekeeper, but it lingered. The bees as a whole would live through it, though, even if the cost was high. Sygnum would see to it. "That said, we have enough scrap and latex to manufacture additional moisture collectors, which would help if set to operate soon. Ammo is good. Food is acceptable. Tin for the welders is in short supply." That shortage, at least, he felt less worried about. Minerals were in large supply in Solotaire; more was probably already being scrounged up.

"We'll call that a last resort," Asta said, "Our agricultural infrastructure is unsteady enough as it is. I'll see what I can do about getting those moisture collectors up and running. Continue with your assessment, have a report to me by close of business. Stihlheim out." The Chief slipped her communicate back into its holster, leaning back in her chair and rubbing the bridge of her nose. It would be water. It couldn't be something easy. It was a rare enough resource on the desert planet, and ever since the offworld ships had stopped coming it had been more valuable than gold. Something would have to be done. The Sygnum Chief picked up her radio again, contacting her other Lieutennants. "Increase patrols around the water reserves," she said, "and up the manning on moisture farming." If their water reserves were running low, the Stark were probably dying from thirst. A raid would be almost assured.

Asta tried to go back to her reports, but the words on the pages started doing cartwheels in her head. Sighing, the Chief pushed herself back from her desk, standing up and heading for the door. A walk would be nice.

"Hm," She said, almost as if actually considering it. You might have almost thought she was serious, except for the slight curve of her lips, there was nothing else that made it obvious of her joking nature. Her eyes, of course, were no clue; that was something Yoshika relied on herself, when faced with someone, you can tell a lot about them from their gaze. Hers, being as strange and pupiless as they were, didn't offer that. One of the first things Yosh had noticed about Elena, though, was the fact of how often she wore sunglasses. It made Yoshika feel like they were on level ground, and she liked that.

"Thanks, but no thanks, soldier," And with that, she slid down onto the dumpster and from there to the sandy earth, quite ungracefully, and Yosh staggered a few steps to catch her footing. I swear, everytime I go up or down, the distance seems to get longer, she thought. Walking over to the dead creature, while still keeping a good few feet away, she noticed the single bullet embedded in the thing; "Expert marksmanship." A hint of incredulousness crept into her voice. "I never did quite get the hang of a gun, but you have a clear talent for shooting, thats without a doubt."

"Oh yes, all natural talent. It has absolutely nothing to do with a good scope and a strong old dose of cowardice." She downplayed with a smirk, patting the butt of her sniper rifle and the well cared for scope mounted on top of it. "Catch me coming close to one of those things again exactly never, haha." Elena made a grimace that pulled at the scar tissue on her face, eyeing the Commander's twin golden khopesh on her hips. She'd never say such a melodramatic thing out loud in a serious tone, but she always thought the woman was rather similar to the weapons themselves - a beautiful and efficient thing covered in desert crust and bloodstains.

She crouched next to the dead animal, grabbing it by the frontlegs and hoisting the thing up, waiting for Yoshika's help. "Where should we take it, by the way? If there's no one on the HQ to quarter it and take the hide, maybe it's worth getting it to someone who will get to work on it quickly. I bet all of those lazy sons of mothers are off getting drunk in some dingy bar. Man, I'm jealous."

"Yes ma'am." He replied at the end of Chief Stihlheim's orders, nodding sharply more to himself than anything - kind of a habit he had yet to get rid of, nonverbal actions directed at a Communicate. With the report done, he went back to work, pulling up the crate he'd been going through before the call and slowly and methodically writing down its contents.

"Pfft. I sure hope not. But ya never know with the likes of 'em. They should be out with their patrols." Yosh said as she hefted up the back half of the animal. "We can't have them coming back too intoxicated for work." After another moment of thought, she commented. "I'm not sure where we should take it.. but your right, we need to get it skinned and cleaned fast. This'll probably be our dinner, unless someone else brings something back, and we can't even eat the whole thing. We have to start stocking up and saving chunks of meals, what with the boiling death just around the corner."

Andrew sat outside, cross-legged on the ground in camp, polishing his pearl-white revolvers and admiring there beauty in the bright sunlight. He took pride in his weapons, and often did this more than once a day, outside, where everyone could see. No harm in that, surely?
