Alyssa's frown turns into a huge grin as Toby picks her up and plops her onto his shoulders. " Yipee! It's perfect up here! " She says, a big hint of excitement in her voice. " If we get a dog we should get a golden retriever! Wait no, a long haired German Shepard. Actually, a PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI! " She starts to giggle hysterically. One she stops her giggles, Alyssa looks down at Toby's face, and softly smiles. " Regular Cake is fine but Birthday cake is BETTER! " She informs him. " I guess regular cake works... but can it say Happy Birthday Blade of Grass? " She asks, being serious about what it says. " Could it also be funfetti cake with rainbow sprinkles? " She asks excitedly. Alyssa had tricks to get her daddy to buy her stuff. Just use puppy dog eyes!

Toby couldn't help but smile brightly as he saw how much happier Alyessa seemed on she was on his shoulders. As she began suggesting dog breeds, he gave a warm laugh, knowing that he'd eventually give in. Toby loved all animals, especially dogs; it wouldn't take much to convince him to buy her a puppy. " All of those sound like really great dogs, kiddo." He chuckled, grinning up at her. " Maybe we can take a look at the animal shelter sometime and see what they have? It would be nice to rescue a shelter dog" Toby suggested thoughtfully. Keeping one hand on Alyssa to keep her steady, the dark haired healer folded up the wheelchair and carried it easily with his other arm. Being such a tall, muscular guy, he didn't have any trouble carrying both his daughter and the wheelchair. Toby's eyes sparkled amusedly as Alyssa made her requests for the cake. " I suppose we can do that, kiddo. But, a funfetti cake with rainbow sprinkles and 'Happy Birthday Blade of Grass' wouldn't be a real birthday cake unless it had candles, right? " He said, playfully wiggling his eyebrows at her

" You're welcome!" Gilly chuckled, the mischievous glint still in his cheerful eyes," And you're right. I like to take my time so that I look my best when I go out." He smoothed out his brightly colored Hawaiian shirt for emphasis. It was obvious that Gilly's personality was as cheerful- and flamboyant- as his clothing style. " Really?" He laughed warmly, " I didn't know I looked like the kind of guy to own a smart car or van. I'm flattered!" He said with a playful win, " I do own a van, it's for work though." Gilly shut the door for her after she buckled up, then hopped into the driver's seat and buckled up himself. " Okie dokey, here we go. The waterfall isn't too far away, but we'll have to hike just a bit" He said cheerfully, adding " If you're hungry, there's granola bars and water bottles in my bag over there. And shotgun has control of the radio. I must warn you though, I have an unhealthy collection of 311 and Bob Marley cds in the glove box if you're into that kind of music." Gilly pulled out of the hotel parking lot and headed towards to the spot he had told Jessie about before.

" How could I forget candles?! " Alyssa whines, sounding disappointed in herself. " Can we go to the animal shelter sometime today? " She asks, wrapping her arms around Toby's neck and lays her head down on top of his. She lightly sighs and then kisses his head. " Do I get to blow out the candles, daddy? " Alyssa asks, smiling a bit. " That is my favorite part of birthdays! Blowing out the candles. " She explains, sounding more and more excited. I can't wait! She thought. This is going to be the greatest birthday ever, because it's just with me, daddy, and blade of grass!Alyssa smiles while thinking this.

" Well, you're in luck kiddo, I think we have birthday candles at home. " Toby said cheerfully, looking up at her with a crooked grin. " Sure, I don't see why we can't stop by the shelter today. Though, I don't know if we can get a dog just yet" He added, though he had a a feeling that they would probably be going home with all the dogs in the shelter. The dark-haired healer smiled softly as Alyssa wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his head. Somehow she knew just the way to melt his heart and perk up his mood. " Of course you can blow out the candles, pumpkin. " He said giving a warm chuckle. Toby couldn't help but smile as he carried Alyssa all the way to their small home just outside of town.

When they get home, she jumps off of his shoulders. Of course, she has forgotten about her knees again. Alyssa's knees sting from the impact, then she stumbles and falls onto her knees. She winced at the pain when she hits her knees. Tears immediately fill her eyes. Alyssa rubs her knees and then wipes her eyes. She slowly stands back up, grabbing onto Toby's hand to keep her balance. " Daddy will it start bleeding again? " She frowns. She blinks back the tears and then starts looking through all the drawers. " Where are the candles daddy? " She questions, still scavenging for them. Alyssa mumbles to herself while searching.

Toby was too slow to stop Alyssa from jumping, but he immediately knelt down to make sure that she wasn't hurt further. " You okay kiddo?" He asked worriedly. The dark-haired healer helped her stand up gently, letting her hold his hand to keep her balance. "If you rest a while, I don't think it'll start bleeding again, pumpkin." He assured her gently. Toby smiled to himself as Alyssa began searching through the kitchen drawers. " I think they're in the cabinet over by the icebox. Why don't you look for them and I'll get the cake ready, okay? " He suggested, trying to remember where he had put the candles. Toby got out a box of funfetti cake mix and began making the batter as he kept an eye on Alyssa. " Hey kiddo, I think we have some more sprinkles down there too" He said with a cheerful smile. Toby loved baking, so he had a lot of different decorations and flavorings for all kinds of cakes.

" Oh, okay daddy! " Alyssa says, while grabbing onto the counter to get over to the cabinet. She searched and searched until she found sprinkles and candles. " Got them! " She said triumphantly. She hands the sprinkles over to Toby and places the candles on the table. Alyssa stares in awe at her dad as he makes the cake. She slowly walks over to her room, in search of something. She hadn't told her dad, but she had caught a milk snake earlier. Alyssa had a small little cage from when she would catch small things like grasshoppers. She picks up the cage and brings it out. Milk snakes are almost completely harmless. She starts to giggle while looking at the snake. She takes off the the lid and picks it up. " Daddy daddy look what I found today! " Alyssa slowly walks up to him and grins, petting the small snake kindly. " Do you like it daddy? Or are you, SCARED of it? " She teases and giggles.

Toby hummed to himself cheerfully as he popped the cake batter in the oven to bake. " Thanks, kiddo!" He smiled as she handed him the sprinkles. After setting them on the table, Toby began fixing their lunch for the picnic- peanut butter sandwiches, jello, and just to be healthy, he brought out some carrot sticks and celery. It wasn't exactly what Alyssa had requested, but it was close as Toby could manage. He packed the containers of food into a picnic basket along with a few water bottles and a carafe of fresh milk. Once he was finished, he began cleaning up the kitchen while Alyssa headed up to her room. Toby looked up as she called his name and giggled." What have you got there, kiddo?" He asked, interestedly. Truthfully, he was a tiny bit leary of snakes, but he was an animal lover at heart. " Wow, he's a real beauty! Did you catch him all by yourself?" Toby asked, beaming proudly that she wasn't afraid to pick up the small snake and that she knew which ones were harmless or not. Since the healer often took Alyssa into the woods with him to look for healing herbs or let her play outside by herself, he had taught her from a young age how to stay away from dangerous flora and fauna in the woods.

She grins triumphantly and Alyssa is very happy that he doesn't mind. " I did catch him myself! Want to hold him daddy? " She asks, holding him out to Toby. " His name is Kai! " She exclaims, stroking the top of the snakes head gently. " I also saw a little mouse baby all alone... I didn't take it though.. " Alyssa frowns, looking ashamed and embarrassed that she did not help the little mouse. She takes a small peek into the basket and smiles. " I can't wait to eat! The cake smells amazing so far. The snake opens it's mouth widely, showing its razor sharp teeth. Alyssa smiles and pets him again. " Daddy look at the teeth! They're soo sharp. " She grins. She takes the snake from him and gasps. " DADDY IT'S GOING TO BITE YOU! " Alyssa shrieks, then starts to giggle so hard. She kissed Toby on the cheek and grins. " Can we go soon? Also, can we bring Kai? " She asks excitedly.

" Sure kiddo, I'd love to hold Kai" Toby chuckled warmly, his eyes sparkling with a faint mischief. Carefully, he held the small snake and stroked it's tiny head with his thumb. He smiled to himself faintly; he still remembered brining snakes, frogs, baby birds and all kinds of critters home from the forest. Even now as an adult, Toby loved all kinds of animals and would nurse injured ones he or Alyssa found and nurse them back to health. " That's okay you didn't bring him home, kiddo. He'll be alright " He said gently, noticing how upset Alyssa was that she didn't rescue the baby mouse. Toby smiled as she perked up and mentioned the cake," It does smell delicious! Once it's finished baking, we can decorate it and then we can have our picnic". Toby looked down at the snake's razor sharp teeth, his eyes widening just a bit. Milk snakes weren't venomous and were rarely aggressive, but still, he didn't want to be bitten bu Alyssa's new pet. " Goodness, they are sharp, aren't they?" He remarked, letting her take Kai from him, " You'd best be careful around him, kiddo, he is a wild snake after all. " He said, though he didn't see the harm in letting her keep the snake for a while. " Sure we can bring Kai on our picnic " He smiled, " And we can go just as soon as the cake's finished!"
