”Hm,” was my only answer, acknowledging the new information she’d given me. “That explains your...” I paused, grasping briefly for a word. “... colour palette.” I gestured loosely at all of her with my free hand. “It would be more likely from an area like that, natural advantage and the like.” I nodded in agreement with myself as I walked, and added as a statement rather than a question - “And your townspeople didn’t particularly take to the wolves.” Pausing momentarily I switched my phone to my left hand and pulled the other headphone from my ear, deciding this conversation was intriguing enough as I easily disconnected and wrapped my headphone cable around my other hand with a practiced efficiency, then placed the bundle in my pocket. I’d never met an Alaskan.
“What’s growing up there like? Tell me about life there.”

{{wow, sorry for the mess that was my last post! I was debating whether to stay in the first-person and wanted to make sure I got everything in the post. I was so focused on that I entirely forgot to proofread. Good grief haha

Zion stiffened in surprise, suddenly staring back at a wide-awake, human-formed Basil; the girl squinted momentarily as her eyes readjusted to the light, and she watched, bewildered as the boy leaped into action, berating her with questions. At his last question realization dawned on her and a small mischievous smile appeared on her face despite her best efforts. She searched his face slightly as he relaxed and continued speaking, and replied in a happy but slightly apologetic tone, “Sorry, I didn’t think of that, and I had no idea you’d be sleeping…” He’s so sweet, Zion thought to herself, feeling a bit warm inside from the care he’d just displayed and blushing lightly in spite of herself. Quirking up an eyebrow, Zion closed her eyes and stretched languidly, down to her toes as she internally inspected the state of her body after her first pack hunt. Letting herself down from standing on her toes, the girl opened her eyes again and hummed contentedly, saying, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m good.” She grinned lightly, adding, “Mind you, I know my muscles are going to ache in the morning. I typically don’t get this much exercise, and this flab isn’t going to go away on its own.” She lightly grabbed a bit of her stomach fat just above her hip as she mentioned it, then let go and readjusted her shirt in a mildly self-conscious manner. The girl chuckled, mentally shrugging off her previous comment and said, “So, what do you want to start with? I’ve got books, music, and many other wonders.” Plopping down onto his bed, Zion grinned in anticipation. "Maybe we should just get to know each other better. It's day one of our friendship - I gotta know the important stuff about you, like your favourite colour and season." She smiled jokingly at the statement. "So, which first - music, movies, the equivalent of 20 questions?"

Very much at home in a coat of fur, Chester took off running at the sound of Anya’s hunting howl, gleefully feeling the forest-scented air coursing through his fur and filling up his lungs. It had been a while since he spent time in a forest. Eventually he slowed and stopped; inhaling deeply, the obscenely tall wolf took note of the details in the darkened forest, and searched for signs of prey nearby; he couldn’t possibly scare away the entire forest, could he? Chuckling mentally Chester looked around, and was interrupted by Ezra’s call for support… he sounded close by. Picking his steps carefully, the deep ginger wolf glided over the forest floor until he was just steps behind his adoptive brother. Using the mental-link, he part whispered, not wanting to potentially startle Ezra. “Hey man, whatcha find?” he questioned lightly.

(Ur good... my puppy is sleeping on my arm so it's hard to type at all lol)
This guy... he some sort of government dude? I rarely get that much from a scent.
"Well, you're right. You see a lot of arctic wolves hanging out around werewolves. People didn't like either of them."
She readjusted the butterfly pin in her hair and sighed deeply, "hmm. It's cold, no surprise there. There's a lot of moose scat every where but it's frozen so it's more like a rock. Lots of snow. Sometimes you'll see people with sleds pulled by werewolves. I pulled a sled once as a little pup, but it wasn't the most pleasant thing.
We mine a lot of oil, I've heard about twenty percent of all of America's oil. Cheap labor but it's not good for your health.
Oh! The sun never really sets all the way, and the aurora boreal is is really pretty. You can't really describe it."
Going of on a tangent, she stopped, "So, what about you?"
She watched him tuck the earphones away, and she was pleased he was listening to her. She personally preferred fuzzy headphones but it was personal preference.

I nodded lightly, just barely rolling my eyes. “Leave it to people to connect the new with the negative,” I muttered lightly, my deep voice gravely at the statement. Her comment about pulling sleds was a little surprising to me, but I could see the benefit under a few circumstances. “Is that when werewolves are in a partnership with humans? Surely it’s not something offered as a job,” My statement had questioning overtones and I added, “No, that doesn’t sound pleasant at all.”
I hummed lightly as she listed a few facts about oil mining, then asked, “Was anyone in your family or close social circle affected by this?” I listened on as she described the aurora boreal, and lightly asked, “It can’t be described but it can be shown.” I pointed lightly at her camera, adding, “Do you have any pictures you took yourself?”
When the girl suddenly turned her question on me, I stiffened slightly. I contemplated doing my usual thing and saying nothing about myself, but her question was too direct and I’d make her suspicious and untrusting. A part of me didn’t want that to happen.
“I…” Thinking briefly on how I’d do it, I took a quick breath and started again. “I grew up everywhere. As a kid my family travelled all over the world, and my parents would show and teach me everything, so I developed a flavour for art and, among other things, I know how to speak English, French and Spanish fluently, and Arabic and Mandarin more roughly. Enough to get by, I supposed, just not very smoothly.” I paused, and added with a bit of uncertainty. “I, uh… I like photography too, but I’m not any good at it.”
A bit nervously, I stopped, not wanting to give more information than she was asking for.

She hated to agree with his first comment, because it was true.
"No, not really. If you went into the more popular towns than sometimes you'd find people offering it as a job, mostly doctors who needed to deliver medicine. Where I lived, it wasn't very popular. Well, except for what few people who decided to adopt werewolf children and force them to pull sleds. It's pretty much impossible to adopt young werewolves there anymore unless you have the correct certification."
She rubbed her arm a bit, "My forefather worked in the oil mines. It paid fine but the gases you'd get from drilling the ice... it stunk like high h*ll. He contracted a lung cancer from the ten years he was exposed to it and he kinda died."
Cloud seemed awfully relaxed about it. It wasn't because she didn't love her father, but she'd already learned to cope with it. To her, it was wrong to mourn. To die was to go to a better place, atleast according to her religion.
She looked at the camera, "Ah, I don't have any really good quality.. I was a pre-teen." She said as she turned the digital camera on. She pressed a few buttons and pulled up a slightly fuzzy photo.

"I'm the second to the left. The one on the most left is my father, the one in the pink jacket is my mom, and the one looking like he's having a muscle spasm is my cousin." She chuckled at her own stupid joke. Even when she was thirteen she was still taller than her mom.
She listened to his awkward ramble, noting his stiffness.I get a feeling that there's more to it.
She smiled instead, looesening her uptight demeanor a bit, "Ah, that's cool! I always wanted to see France, but I never got to.
I don't speak any other languages except for a teeny tiny bit of Russian, since sometimes they pop up in Alaska. Still, you probably know more languages than I do."
She quite lazily scrolled patiently through some of the photos, andd it was apparent that some of the photos were professionally taken, and some weren't. "I guess dad forgot to transfer some.." She mumbled to herself.

I nodded along slowly as the girl spoke about werewolves, mumbling a quiet, “huh…” as she explained. As she responded to my question with the revelation of her father’s death, I noted her neutral tone and my own reaction to her statement, thinking, wow, she’s like me? Oh— I cut the thought short sharply and with a slightly quieter tone than before I said, “Oh, I’m sorry.” Simple, to the point and not going down the rabbit hole that is pity. What I’d want anyone to do for me if confronted with the information. Which ain’t gonna happen.
Pausing my walk I leaned over the female to take a look at the photo she presented me with, nodding my head lightly as she pointed out the different people. I felt the skin stretch over my teeth slightly in the beginning of a smile at her joke, but I restrained myself from smiling and instead asked, “Are you close with your family?”
Resuming their walking pace, I looked down under the guise of watching my step and had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from my lip twitching upward. “France is very bright and colourful, very different from what you’ve been exposed to - you’d probably like it.” I didn’t reply to her commentary on languages, and when she fell silent my eyes caught on the moving light that was her camera screen, absorbing the amateur and professional photography, together with the stark difference between the two. At her last few words, my eyebrow quirked up, and after a quick pause of thought I stated, “Oh, of course.” I looked back forward, seeing the silhouettes of the cabins. “You like your stepfather?”

She rubbed the back of her head where a mosquito was attacking her, "Ah, thanks. It was a long time ago, and it doesn't hurt as much to know he's in a good place. It's always a bit awkward to talk about the dead, so could we switch the subject?"
It wasn't the awkwardness that made her want to change the subject. She didn't really like to talk about her family too much. She was grateful for the condolences, though.
"Well, with my immediate family. My mom and are I pretty close. You may have seen her in magazines around here? She does a little bit of modeling and photography as a hobby. My cousins live in Alaska on my father's side, and my mother's side lives here, although we don't talk too much."
She could ramble about her cousins all day: there wasn't anything too weird about the, though.
She didn't notice his eternal struggle to not smile, a bit more focused on talking and walking. If she had, she definetly would have been curious about it.
"It sounds pretty, although I don't speak any French. Perhaps I'll have to visit there someday."
She had only seen small pictures of France before. Someday she'd take a road trip around the world and just try literally everything in every single place. And take lots of pictures.
The diffirenze in quality seemed to follow a pattern; any ones involving holding the common birds were of okay quality, while the ones of the landscape and wolves were obviously done by someone professional.
Upon mentioning her stepfather, it took her brain a moment to figure out how he had figured out she had a stepfather. It was a bit obvious: her original father was six feet under, she had moved, and it made sense in general. Recovering from the brief confusion, she nodded, "He's nice. He took most of the pictures on this old thing. He works with my mom and got her a lot of publicity. I think I'd like to know him better, but I'm not sure if I could really consider him direct family. It'll just take time, I uess,"

Having not pursued the topic, I immediately fulfilled her request, and listened as she talked briefly about her mother and extended family. The frequency of my perusal of magazines lead to a lack of chance of seeing the work of this fae’s mother virtually none, but I didn’t mention it. Instead I stored the tidbit of information together with the rest I’d been accumulating so far.
Nodding at her comment I smoothly replied, “Don’t worry about the language. You pick it up faster there, and it becomes the useful skill you need rather than the redundant grammar you come to resent.” My eloquent speaking manner was coming through, and I casually debated whether I should keep it as it is or lower it a bit to sound more normal and, perhaps, relatable. It seemed a good idea.
“Sure, that makes sense,” I replied loosely, briefly drawing a few shallow parallels between getting a foster family and a new father figure. The latter seemed… easier. “Has he been with you two for very long?”
Having reached the dark silhouettes of the counsellor cabin—the windows were dark and the lights were off— I took a step toward the door and knocked. A few moments of silence led me to knock once more, but to no avail.
Turning back toward the tall girl I neutrally stated, “The counsellors are not here. Since it’s the first day of camp they’re probably scrambling to have everything run smoothly, so chances are they won’t be here for a while.” I paused, scratching my elbow casually before crossing my arms. “Before you crashed into me, I was on my way to go for a walk in the forest. You can wait here on your own until someone shows up, or, if you’d like, we can go familiarize ourselves a little bit with the forest in this region and come back here. I’d expect them to be back by then.” This is so unusual for me. I don’t hang out with people. Ugh. Fighting my own discomfort and mild anxiety at the invitation I’d just extended and its implications of further social interaction one-on-one, I kept my face neutral as I met the she-wolf’s eye, expectant of an answer.

But who even read magazines anymore?
Cloud did just so she could see what the finished product looked like. :)
Noting the change in speaking style, she calmly replied, "Well, perhaps. I heard you learn any language really fast if you're stuck in a foreign country even if you don't speak a single word of it."
His question made her realize how long she'd been out of Alaska. They'd moved when she was just freshly thirteen, and she was seventeen... that was four years. Despite all that, she still had a Alaska accent (which didn't sound super different than most accents) and used their slang all too often.
Realising she'd paused for a moment to do the math, she quickly followed up with, "About four years, ish. I barely even noticed how long it's been. Geez. I guess time does fly."
She noted the empty cabin. Even the counsellors were still out later or passed out. Or... doing other things. Atleast she-- they weren't the only ones still out.
The werewolf pondered for a moment at his offer, lightly touching her fingers to her chin. If she were a makeup guru she'd be worrying about smearing her makeup or whatever. Sadly, she had never learned makeup skills.
"I suppose it'd be more intresting to wander the woods than sit around here in the dark waiting for a counsellor who I may scare to death like a horror movie." She thought aloud.
She noticed his mild discomfort; the slight shift in posture, a brief glance at nothing, and the tiniest change in scent.
"You're a werewolf, right?" She asked. She almost added 'too' in there, but she didn't want to give away her own identity. She didn't really care, but she preferred for people to figure it out.

”Mhm,” I replied easily, and nodded in acknowledgement when she answered my question.
I didn’t reply as she took a moment to vocalize her logic at my offer, but as the girl asked her latter question I felt my face change into the first expression she'd see besides my usual poker face - it could only be described as smug and sarcastic, my eyebrows raised in a form of disbelief as my eyes closed slightly in what might’ve been read as annoyance. However my mouth formed the beginning of a smile, but a smirk more than anything else. “You know we both are,” I retorted lightly, before turning on my heel and heading toward the direction I’d originally been going, planning to go to the clearing where the pack had banded and headed off to the forest - that way it would allow me to catch the scent, and explore more of the camp.

"So, which first - music, movies, the equivalent of 20 questions?"

male ⤖ werewolf ⤖ reference ⤖ 16 ⤖ single ⤖ hunting ⤖ bunk 18 with Declan ⤖ tagged: Ezra & Falon

Basil Attwood

_____"Oh- I - I wasn't sleeping..." he lied, realizing he had already given himself away. What had he been thinking anyways? Sleeping on the first night? Not very wise of him. "I was resting my eyes," he corrected himself, and her, hopefully had she not seen through his transparency. Basil looked her over the least obvious way he could possibly do so before nodding. "Yes- you seem to be okay..." he trailed off before shaking his head. "Sorry, I was just worried you got hurt on the hunt," he confessed, running his fingers through his pale blonde hair.
_____Basil sat back down on his bed and relaxed himself a bit, nodding at her statement. "No- I doubt anyone will not be sore tomorrow- no one gets this much exercise," he laughed. He truthfully probably should have gone on the hunt, but he was quite tired from the trip up. Though Basil managed to escape the albinism that plagued his family's genetics, his skin was quite fair and he always had to be careful being in it too long, it seemed to take most of his body's energy to protect itself and repair whatever damage may have been done.
_____"You don't have any flab," he laughed- sure, everyone had some extra fat but it was good for a person to have, considering their new environment. Basil himself knew he would be one of the first to show signs of starvation if they ever went through a shortage, he and his sister were very frail and lean, like both of their parents. Basil was about to make another comment about how healthy she actually was compared to him, but before he knew it she was on his bed next to him. Instinctively he scooted a bit away as he readjusted his position to face her, turning his head in curiosity.
_____"Oh-" he laughed, a bit relieved that was all she was there for, but also confused. No one had ever wanted to know those things about him- he didn't even know if he knew those things about him. It was an odd approach to friendship- but he wasn't exactly rich in that department either so what would he know. "Hmmm well it would be awful if I said my favorite color was green-" he gave her a half smile. Green was what he and Aloe lived for- their parents too- the ate, drank breathed and slept green it seemed with how many things they lived on such as herbs and supplements they had grown in their garden. "Hmmm I think my favorite color would have to be lavender?" he rose a brow, unsure of himself. Lavender was his father's favorite flower to keep in the house- that and the lavender wisteria he planted in the backyard- they brought so much happiness to both of his parents, it had to be his favorite color.
_____"And definitely not summer-" he laughed, she could probably guess but he figured he would explain. "My skin is too pale for it," he shrugged. "Maybe fall, when the leaves all change and fall making a new ground- it's usually easier to run during that time of year also," he offered as a piece of reasoning. "How about you? Favorite season, color... and I'll raise you one," he rose a brow as he looked at her mischievously. "Favorite food," he decided on, curious if she wound up hunting anything good on the outing.

((Falon replied to Chester, not sure if you saw))
