Darwin could feel his heart beat in his fingertips. The chill rushed over his whole body, making his face flush. He pulled his hair into a tiny ponytail and laid against the wall. He crossed off another day on his makeshift calendar. Putting a pillow behind his head, he began to quietly hum a song. He wished so bad that he wasn't alone.

He couldn't help but let out a small laugh when he felt the other's hand become sweaty. It's not something one would experience. It's otherworldly, and honestly, quite terrifying when he first discovered his powers. Now, he didn't seem to pay it too much heed. "I won't let go. Just keep walking, and at the end, you'll begin to see a brighter light." and he was right. As they kept walking, their surroundings became brighter and brighter until they were on a different side of the river. Halcyon had to hold onto his hat as a cool breeze passed by. He turned his head and smiled rather endearingly at the other boy. Their hands were still interlocked with each other before he realized with embarrassment. "Well, here we are. We're just a few yards away from the others...quiet possibly about 40 feet? Maybe 50?" The rift closes itself off behind them, and the steady stream of butterflies vanished in the sunlight.

Anastasia glanced up, popcorn crumbs at the corners of her mouth. she smiled bright and waved back in greeting before she stood up and closed the bag of smartfood. she strode over to the three other teens in the room with a small grin as she nodded respectfully toward everyone. hello! she exclaimed, before she looked over at Alex and she quirked an eyebrow. looking at the male's wings before she dropped her gold flecked gaze. I, myself have a few scars to bear from my time before being found. Me and Jay were once attacked in a field, there weren't any close by shadows to flee into. she explained, sympathizing with the taller teenager. she smiled softly, deciding to lighten the subject, Anywho! i'm wondering if you guys are excited to see what our assignments would be? she asked brightly.

Jayson nodded, beginning to step even though it was difficult to get a footing, as they began approaching the other side where the second rift was he felt a soft gust of wind that entered through the exit. he basically leapt out of the portal, chuckling to himself and stretching out the shivers that had been running along his spine. he looked back toward Halcyon, wiping his hands on his shorts in the process. This is awesome. he uttered, running his fingers through his dark hair to keep it out of his eyes. I'm going to dive in. He said, his words almost excited as he pulled his shirt up over his head again; ruffling his hair in the process. He tossed the black piece of clothing into the sand near a rock and also unclipped his carving knife, resting it on his shirt before turning to regard the water. Do you swim? he asked, not even bothering to fix his hair again since he was going to be diving into the river soon.

Halcyon stood rather dumbfounded as he watched Jayson peel back his shirt. When he heard the slight clanking of his belt, he was snapped out of it and blushed rather profusely. Again, it seems like the scenario was happening over and over again and his face grew redder and redder as a result. His eyes stayed glued onto him as he slowly sank down to the cool soil resting beside the flowing river. W-Well uh...I don't really know how to swim." He averted his eyes again and dug his fingers down underneath the loose dirt. God his ruffled dark hair over his piercing blue eyes made him shiver. He's too perfect, and the thought was making those butterflies come back in his stomach. "I'll just watch you from here..haha." In all honesty, that did not sound so bad.

Jayson rubbed the back of his neck and stretched out his shoulders, quirking an eyebrow at the other teenage boy. Oh. he stated more bluntly than he wanted to, almost like he was disappointed. immediately the smile reappeared on his face. Careful. i might splash you. he joked with a wink before he took a running start and dove into the water. the surrounding feeling was cool and refreshing as he resurfaced and shook his head, the current taking him a little bit downstream. he swam so that he was just within reach of the shore, his feet sinking into the loose sandy mud. he grinned and ran his fingers through his wet hair, pulling it back to keep him from blocking his gaze. he flicked his finger just below the surface, causing some water to sparkle up in the sun and come a few feet within Halcyon.

NICOLE MATTHIAS
THE ORACLE

The elderly woman chuckled. Poor Boris still felt awkward about speaking to her. That was alright though, Nicole still saw him as her son. "Never been better. The weather's lovely, we have enough food for everyone, my kids are happy and growing up... that includes you by the way."
She was proud of the teenagers. They had come of age, and finally she could send them on missions without supervision.
Nicole didn't pay attention to Jessica until he spoke. She already knew what the teenager was going to say. In fact, she had known for a while.
The kid's negativity did not help the atmosphere of the safe house. It did not help the sense of family that Nicole and Acacia tried to build. He didn't want to be here and he didn't remotely like anyone here.
"We took you in," Nicole explained patiently, "to give you a taste of the family life. Training, fighting, working together... This lifestyle is clearly not for you."
The normally-smiling old lady had an emotionless expression at this point. Jess was the only teenager she did not see as a child. After everything she had done. She gave him space, gave him food, gave him his favorite drink. He had freedom to use any of the Safe House's resources. The electricity to charge his phone, for example. And he only responded with the same negativity and refusal to become part of the family.
Nicole was, quite frankly, fed up with this after over a year of the behavior. It had disappointed the old mother to the point where she did not consider Jess her child like everyone else.
Her voice, when she spoke, was calm and showed none of her anger. "I have bought you a flight ticket. Once your flight arrives at its destination, I do not care what you do. If you want to go back on the run, by all means, go right ahead."
Nicole had nothing else to say to Jess, so she turned back to Boris. Her familiar motherly smile had returned to her face. "Thank you, my son. Anyway, as I was saying, I am very proud of you. Would you like to show me how well your power is developed now?"

HAZEL JIN

At first, Hazel didn't even notice the mud ball colliding with her head. She just thought Alura was making some dumb gesture. Only when the gooey mud started to run down her face did she realize what happened.
"Twerp!" Hazel hollered across the field. "I'll GET you for this!"
She didn't specify what 'getting' Alura meant. Mostly because Hazel hadn't thought of a particularly scary threat, so 'getting' was a placeholder for an actual real threat.
Hazel flashed a huge grin towards Elise, who was disgusted by the muddy brown clothes idea. Drying off was sounding like a better and better idea every moment.
"I can barely feel my legs," Hazel replied, still grinning. "Let's hit the showers!"

HICKORY JIN

Hickory smiled in approval. They had their sparring match all figured out. He always loved fighting alongside a friend, it was much more fun than fighting alone. Facing any enemy without a partner was thrilling, but there was always the feeling of something missing.
"We're sparring after dinner, when it cools down a bit. That okay with you?" Hickory asked Marie. "Don't worry, we'll do it before bed so Nicole doesn't nag us."
He chuckled- Nicole never got angry even when she pretended to be. Nobody in the house had seen Nicole truly mad. And, probably nobody wanted to.

"Don't worry about me, just enjoy yourself." How much more could he take after that ridiculous wink the male gave? He's too attractive for his own good, and he watched him dip into the water in a rather abrupt fashion. The water splashed onto the shore and nearly missed his shoes. He watched his figure underneath the water - admiring his form as he seemed to swim with so much ease. When he resurface, everything seemed to slow down like in those old, cliché movies he's watched before. His wet hair threatened to cling onto his handsome face, and the way he pulled it away made his heart stop. He's a heartthrob.

"Ack! Jayson!" He squealed as the water nearly touched his shoes. With a little mischievous grin, he brought his hand out and rolled his wrist. A rift formed just a few feet away from Jayson - swirling along with the flowing of the river. The water was swallowed up by the discourse in space and time. As more of the water was drunken up by the portal, he thrust his hand out, and another rift opened above Jayson. Water poured out in copious amounts - soaking him completely. He swore a fish swam out and smacked him in the face as it landed back into the safety of the water. He snickered quietly.

Jayson laughed at Halcyon, ducking into the water so only his eyes were visible for a few moments before he had to breathe again. he stood up, rolling his shoulders before a portal appeared a few meters from him, he yelled in panic as the current tugged him in its direction, and he planted his feet in hopes that he wouldn't get sucked in. He wouldn't do that to me. his mind stated, giving the brunet added confidence enough that he could relax his previously taut muscles. he grinned at his friend, fixing his hair again and laughing as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Mere moments later, the icy eyed male looked up at the blue eyes, a soft cloud making its way across the atmosphere before he noticed another rift begin to open. He let out another yell as the water from the other rift started pouring down on him. he lifted his hands to shield himself, his hair falling in front of his eyes again. he jumped away, swimming quickly across the river so he wouldn't get sucked into the other vortex. he paused his movement, sitting about waist deep in the water, a few scales from a fish falling on him had stuck to his back, glimmering a soft teal in the sunlight.

Alura sighed as she looked at her muddy clothes. They were caked in mud. "Where should we put theses? I don't think we can just put them in the wash with everyone else's clothes. They'd get ruined." She stated, trying to think of an idea. There wasn't a bin or anything similar that they could use. "Maybe there's a bucket somewhere in the house we can borrow?" She questioned.

Halcyon was laughing a little too hard as he held onto his stomach. The rifts closed and disappeared, leaving the current of the river to flow naturally once again. He vanished into butterflies before reappearing on the side of the river Jayson with a towel in his arms. "Sorry. I couldn't help myself. You were being way too cute. I can't help but want to mess you." He had a soft smile on his face as he brushed the scales off of his back. He didn't realize what he just said as he absentmindedly crouched down to his level and offered him the towel if he wanted it.

"Maybe someday you can teach me how to swim. I'd like to not feel like I'm drowning every time I step into a bathtub." He truly looked handsome just sitting waist deep in the water like that. The river reflected light into his blue eyes.
