Soren shook his head. "Somehow, worse," he whispered in answer. He could probably better handle howlers than his oldest brother, honestly. He looked at Basil, furrowing his eyebrows as he caught what looked like a bit of confusion, and he peered back again. He hadn't seen the wolf accompanying his brother beforehand, though now she was more visible, and it only caused confusion to write itself over his features as well. He listened to his surroundings as he tried to figure out why Hawthorne of all people would be with a howler... but that stopped being important rather fast. As he exhaled a sigh, his shoulders slumped, resigned to the fact that there weren't many options. He looked over towards Alex, waving a hand forward to get her attention and making a slight gesture for her to get closer to him and Basil. He looked off towards the forest, curious as to who the howler that he'd been with was, but she'd dashed off. "Arkady..." He repeated the name his brother called out, furrowing his eyebrows, wondering if he'd heard it anywhere before. It didn't seem familiar, though.
Hearing Hawthorne's voice made him tense up, and he fidgeted hesitantly. He tried to focus his thoughts more on things to say, how to hold himself, what personality to take on. Quick to make a decision for the fact that making him wait wasn't a good idea, he placed a hand up on the rock he hid behind to support himself as he stood up slowly. His wings opened up, an instinct to provide balance, but it actually served more to throw him off due to their added water weight, and he stumbled slightly. "Well that's no fair, big brother," he responded to Hawthorne. He took a step out of his cover, pouting and crossing his arms. "You're not supposed to use animals to track people in hide-and-seek~ How're we supposed to win that?" He spoke with a casual tone, hiding anxiety and probable terror behind a mask that he slipped on with ease. If there was one thing he was confident about, it was his ability to act.

Alex watches Soren as he steps out and sighs before following his lead. She steps out from behind her boulder. "Hey Hawthorne, fancy seeing you here," she says weakly, giving her brother a wobbly smile. "Whatcha up to?" Alex's shoulders are slightly hunched, her eyes looking everywhere but at Hawthorne.

Basil flinched as she heard her brother's angry voice. It didn't help that he was still holding his sword. Shyly, she followed her siblings out from behind the boulder. None of this made sense; Why was Hawthorne with a Howler named Arkady and just wearing his pajamas. If the three of them weren't in so much trouble, this all would have been a little funny. Basil nervously tugged at her bangs, " Hello Hawthorne... " She said, looking up at her oldest brother. " W-what are you doing out here this late? "

Arkady's lungs filled with the toxic smoke and she resisted the urge to gag at the smell. It was overpowering and became stronger with each step. The traps set at the forest borders from the humans were unknown to her and she was running to fast notice it. As she stepped onto the trigger she felt her whole body be tangled up into a net. She yelped in surprise and her claws lashed out. The material was thick and small spikes came out of the rope. With each movement, Arkady could feel herself being pricked. She scratched at the net, trying to break free. Arkady didn't risk shifting back into her human form incase something went wrong while transforming and was forced to stay in her wolf form. She began to gnaw at the rope and hoped that her sharp teeth would be better than her claws.

Hawthorne looked over his siblings, frowning disapprovingly. He was angry, but mostly because he was so worried about the three of them. The captain was quiet for what felt like too long. It was obvious he was trying to control his temper and say the right things. " What in the name of Solodin are you three doing out here?" Hawthrone demanded angrily, " All of you know better than coming to the Aboveworld alone! And at night? What if you were spotted? Or attacked by Howlers? Or caught by humans?" He rubbed his face, frustratedly. " The three of you are Royals, now act like it. " He said, looking at his siblings carefully. His stern expression faded and his voice softened a bit, " Is everyone okay? Why are you all soaking wet? " Noticing Soren stumble, he put his hand on his shoulder to steady his brother. " Arkady said that there were two more Quell out here. We need to get them and Arkady and head back home. As I'm sure you've noticed, the forest is on fire. " Hawthrone looked as if he wanted to scold them more, but his worry won out over his other emotions.

After wearing down the metal net with her teeth, she finally tore through it with her claws. Carefully she made her way out of it trying not to get pricked by the spikes more than she already had. Red splotches stood out against her white pelt but the pain was numb to her. She began to run again, careful now of where she stepped. The fire was growing and she could see the light get brighter as she neared it. Arkady was traveling by memory on where the camp was but she was confident that she knew where she was going. She sprinted through the forest, leaping over fallen trees and branches. Her howl rung out through the woods and she could now see the small camp ahead. Hope surged through her and Arkady ran faster, everything passing by her in a blur. The fire now was getting to close to the camp for comfort.

"We are acting like Royals, Hawthorne. We're trying to figure out ways to stop the fire. That's why Soren and Basil are here, as well as the other two. I couldn't sleep so I went for a walk and ended up here. I've been trying to help. We all have!" Alex retorts, her features hard with determination. "Besides, even if we were attacked, we can use our powers," Alex adds, shrugging slightly.

Soren tried not to fumble, though he cast concerned glances to his sisters. Admittedly, he understood, holding an urge to turn his gaze away from their oldest sibling, but he returned his attention to Hawthorne. He shifted a bit from the silence, tilting his head, not commenting until his brother finally spoke up. As Hawthorne's expression softened, he relaxed a bit. He took in a soft breath, happy to have the bit of support. He closed his wings back up, grabbing onto the elbow of one wing and rubbing the joint. "I'm all right. I think we all are..." He was a bit surprised as Alex spoke up, and he looked back at her, smiling. He probably would've said something similar, and he felt a bit more confident now knowing that she still held a desire to help. "We can handle ourselves. We aren't idiots," he spoke, a part of pride acting up. He looked up at Hawthorne. "That's why we're soaking wet. We want to stop this fire, and drenching ourselves was a way to avoid getting burned." He raised up a hand, pushing his hair back. A faint laugh escaped him. "Of course, we didn't come out here because of the fire. We were originally just doing some exploration in the caves..." He looked out towards the forest, resting his hand over his scarf. "Brother... that fire's caused so much pain, and everything's terrified. It isn't natural, and it'll only get worse."

Hawthorne shot Alex a hard look, " All noble reasons, but you still shouldn't have been out here in the first place. I'm sure mom and dad would love to hear why you all decided to wander out of the city and explore." He crossed his arms over his chest, growing stern again, " Our relations with the Howlers are bad enough, we don't need Quell getting caught out here. You could have been hurt, or worse, killed. . Even my soldiers have been lost out here and we're trained to handle stuff like this " , Hawthorne sighed, still frustrated. But, he did listen as Soren spoke. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Sighing, Hawthorne looked at his siblings again, " Look, i think it's great that you want to help. But, we can't get involved. I'm sorry.... it's too dangerous."

Alex's eyebrow rises. " 'It's too dangerous'. You mean like how dangerous it is being Captain of the Guards?" Alex asks, a faint lift of her lips lightening her scowl. "Brother, we have to get involved. Weren't our people originally created to guard the humans? If we let the fire burn, there's no telling what damage it could cause!"
