She watched him with steady eyes, her icy gaze locked upon his face. She felt she could almost see the thoughts swarming through his mind as he began to question the possibilities. She remembered her past in that moment, remembering doing the same when she'd reached her first town after her parents had died, how nervous she'd been being a fourteen-year-old girl all alone in need of supplies for her journey. What if someone calls the police on me? What if they ask for my family? What if I have to run and they see me transform? In the end, she'd worried about nothing as she'd gone to all the right places where the people behind the counter were kind but didn't pry into your business. While worrying did keep you cautious, if you let it fester as he was, it will begin to consume you until you can't even move when it's most important. Kathrine set her glass down on the counter beside her and stared straight into the alpha's eyes as she countered his questions with, "What if somehow we all work out our differences and become the best of friends any creatures like us have ever seen? Not in a million years right?"

She knew that telling him to be calm would only make things worse so instead, she tried to make him think,
"If we stay, we are at risk and if we leave we leave these people to suffer alone. One of us will probably get hurt. For someone like us, it's inevitable; it's just in our nature. Occupational hazard. However, you cannot blame yourself because someone got hurt. You'll just drive yourself insane doing that." She felt like deep down, perhaps in some dream of another life she'd had that she knew what that felt like and it wasn't good as she's never been an alpha here. Never been in a pack this long either that hadn't stabbed her in the back by now. Kathrine straightened herself up from her leaning position and finished by saying, "We can take as many safety measures as we can and we will of course, but there will come a time when there's a choice between being safe and the life of another. That's just how fate like to make the world spin...so we'll just have to adhere to that..."

She trailed off before turning to look down at her glass and face away from him. She spoke again without turning back to him, "There are just somethings that we cannot control, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying to save others...I believe we made the right choice by coming here...and as long as we keep everyone close and at full strength, I believe we will be fine. I don't know that for sure just as you don't...but I have faith at least." Her voice had softened and it was even a slight bit warmer than her normal, icy tone, but it was also sad as if recalling some distant sorrow-filled memory. She was, which was why she'd turned away so that she could build her icy wall of defense up again in her expression before anyone could see it. No one was allowed to see that and so one the ice had returned, she glanced back again.

As the red haired vampire spoke in her native tongue, Cora nodded. She was not fluent in many languages, but she had spent her centuries doing what she could never do as a human peasant girl, a large portion of which included traveling the world. She was always a quick learner, allowing her to pick up on common phrases and greetings. When Gwenevieve told of her reasoning for being in town, Cora sighed. She knew as well as any other vampire in the coven that Gwenevieve was not content here, though Cora could understand why. After all, no reasonable person would want to leave a life of royalty for a life of hiding and killing to stay alive. When Gwen turned the tables and began to question Cora, she looked to the street ahead. "I ate earlier," she commented, answering the question a bit indirectly. She sighed before continuing the conversation. "Werewolves stole away the last good thing in my life. I have spent years learning about them, their strengths. Their weaknesses. But there is more to learn before we can face them," she said, her icey blue eyes darkening as her rage surfaced. Cora decided to change the subject. "How are your fledglings doing back home?" she asked, hoping to spark Gwenevieve's interest in the conversation. However, she was interrupted by a foul scent. Wolf. "Do you smell that?" she asked Gwen, turning her gaze behind them to look for the source.

brontide n.5

ᴇʟᴠɪʀᴀ - age: eighteen - role: healer - tagged; Vincent
Keeping her gaze on the ground, Elvira softly chewed on her lips. As Vincent talked, she felt for him. For the first time in a long while, could relate to how he was feeling. Glancing up she could see him look over his shoulder. Don't mess up, Ellie. She thought to herself before gathering up her courage and speaking.

"I know we will protect them. We're the Bloodrose pack," Fastening her pace, she walked beside him. "I am certain that together we'll end the clan's reign." Maybe she'd be of some comfort in this rough moment. "Don't blame yourself if we can't save everyone." Taking a moment to think, she looked around at the eerily silent town. "Life ends at some point, and for some, it's sooner than most." Her voice was almost a whisper as she looked back up at him. "It happens."

𝑨𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒓 - age: v v old, looks twenty-five - role: original - tagged: Roxy, Cora, Patrick
    (Later)

𝓙𝓪𝓷𝓷𝓪 - age: twenty-three - role: werewolf, hunter - tagged: Shiloh
Janna's smile widened as she listened. Shiloh was always pleasant to converse with, and ever since they began living together it was a daily occurrence one way or another. "That's good.." She noticed Shiloh gazing off and thought it best not to talk much more about those vampires. She couldn't blame him, it was stressing and sometimes saddening. Watching an entire town go downhill,
defenseless and confused, was horrible. But she had faith in the pack's abilities to protect these people from further harm.

"How long will you be out here?" Janna tilted her head, pursing her lips together. It was cold and the snow gathering on the ground was becoming denser. What if he got a cold?

Lucia | role is lead hunter | tagged is no one(at first)

Lucia sniffed around and looked down at a carcass of an unidentifiable animal. Lucia shrugged and kept walking until she came into town and tried to blend in with the humans then she noticed Poet and stalked up to him and whispered softly, “What are you doing here?” Then she noticed the two vampires, “Oh... That’s why you’re here. Have they done anything suspicious? Must we alert the rest of the pack?” Lucia sniffed around some more and moved to the side swiftly to not be spotted by the vampires knowing they will still be able to smell her at the very least.

Vincent | role is lead healer | tagged is Elvira

Vincent nodded, “He was my brother, so I should’ve been able to save him. Then they would have probably never left.” Vincent sighed and kept walking, “We're only a short distance away from the hospital and hopefully we won’t have to treat much of the pack today it’d be unfortunate as those vampires are multiplying at an alarming rate for sure.” Vincent began a fast paced walk.

° GWENEVIEVE °

location; town xx mood; unhappy xx tags; cora, poet, lucia

the post office was within sight a few blocks away when gwen senses the presence of another person, though is unsure which species they may be. a glimmer of displeasure sparks in her chest as cora mentions having eaten earlier, clearly having killed whichever human had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. as the fellow vampire speaks of past hurt and how much she has learned of the wolves, gwen lifts a red brow, but remains silent on the matter. it's true that there were dark hearted packs roaming the world, but gwen chooses not to judge a species by the sins of a few. speaking her mind now would only add kindle to a blaze she doesn't feel like dealing with at the moment.

when cora changes the subject, gwen welcomes it and gives a soft hum as she speaks.
"as well as one could imagine without their mother around to soothe their fears," she replies with a soft sigh, clearly missing her fledglings. "a dear friend of mine was left in charge, but she can only do so much with her limited experience." she expects one of the letters waiting for her in the post office to be from the said friend giving her an update on how things have been. it was a bit irritating to have the conversation changed yet again, but after scenting a wolf on the breeze, gwen lets it go.

she lifts a curious brow and watches as cora looks behind them for the source, knowing full well that the wolf in question is hiding up across the street.
"a wee pup, nothing to be concerned with," gwen says with a flick of a hand before reaching up to pull down her hood. it was no longer snowing so there's no point in having it on. her silver chain circlet glimmers in the morning light and the teardrop-shaped diamond hanging on her forehead gleams brightly for a moment as the light bounces off it. many in the coven think her to be rather pompous for wearing such a thing, but she couldn't care less. after a few moments, gwen can sense a second person join the first in their poorly chosen hiding spot. "ah, two wee pups, i wonder what they are up to this early." she muses lightly, mostly to herself while still walking down the road towards the post office.

Poet's glanced over as another member from the pack joined him. "No, they are just talking and I was just.. uh.." He explained, trying to come up with a quick excuse. "Resting". He said, finally finishing his lame excuse. He froze as he heard the vampires talking about them. Great, they caught my scent. He looked over at Lucia and nodding in the opposite direction of the vampires. "You go that way, I'll go left. We need to split up so that our scent won't be as strong." Poet explained, coming up with the escape plan as quickly as he could. He got up without hearing Lucia's answer and ran towards the outskirts of town, not stopping until he had gotten far away from the two vampires.

Patrick Martin | vamp. fledgling | 22/54 | bi | tags; poet (mentioned)
The more he thought about it, the closer he came to the conclusion that he could use a snack. As much as he would love to hunt with the coven, he had more success alone. He could focus better alone. He gave a brief wave to the others before he quietly slipped out. With hands in his pockets and sunglasses on, he strolled through the forest towards town. He enjoyed the secrecy that living so far from town provided, but the trek was less than favorable. Once he got as far as the outskirts, he noticed someone. He lowered his sunglasses for a better look and from what he could see, the distant figure was male and looked kind of spooked. The fledgling kept to the far right of the footpath he was on and his head down in case it was a werewolf. He couldn't smell as well as a werewolf could so he relied on luck and stupidity to get him safely on his way.

Poet sat down for a few seconds, breathing hard. He looked into the nearby trees and behind him, just in case they had followed him. He let out a relieved sigh as he realized that they hadn't. He checked for scents one more time, just to make sure. He stopped quickly and jumped to his feet as he smelled a vampire smell, he wasn't immediately in attack mode though.. he wondered why until he noticed something. It was a familiar scent. He had to admit he liked to watch people from a distance sometimes before he talked to them, he wasn't exactly stalking but he did like to get a little bit of information first. He smelled the scent again and this time, he recognized it. Patrick. Once he had finally remembered the guys name, Poet began to walk towards the scent. He didn't think Patrick knew who he was, but Poet had listened in on him and some other vamp talking one time and remembered his name. He walked until he could see the source of the scent and leaned against a tree, trying to look 'cool' but also trying to get the other guys attention with his scent - that was probably stronger when he stayed in place rather than walking.

Shiloh Fray
22 / male / warrior
tagged; Janna

Shiloh focused back on Janna, his soft smile returning. He could feel the early morning light against his cheek, catching his eyes, and snow continued to fall, sticking to the ground. He was sure it was covering his quaffed hair, and a glance to his left confirmed it was all over the shoulders of his worn leather jacket.

"I'm pretty much done, I was mostly just getting a feel for the layout of these woods," he explained, eyes flicking around again before he remarked, "I was thinking of heading into town soon, go and find the largest coffee I can."
He was feeling a serious craving for caffeine, and he knew that the cafe on main road served the strongest frappaccino around. Sugar and caffeine; perfect. He'd also begun to have a strange feeling that something was going down somewhere, and it was making him fidgety.

Cora nodded at Gwenevieve as she spoke of the youth of the werewolves. It was true, the wolves were young. But from experience, Cora knew that a young wolf doesn’t stray far from the pack. Unless, of course, they were simply careless pups. Cora shook her head as the scent grew fainter, signaling that the wolves were putting some distance between themselves and the vampires. She sighed, then glanced at Gwenevieve. ”Well, I’ll leave you to your trip. I hope you get good news from home,” she said, offering Gwen a small smile before walking back to the outskirts of the town. The snow crunched under her feet as she walked alone through the city streets. Her senses were on high alert for any sign of the lone pups that she had scented earlier. It was possible that he had fled to the pack, but Cora knew the curiosity that came with being a young supernatural being, so she also understood how unlikely the pups were to simply run home with their tails between their legs. She continued on towards the forest until a familiar scent wafted through the air. Two familiar scents, to be exact. Patrick, a fledgling, was one of the sources. The other was the young pup that she had scented earlier. Cora grew tense and she made her way towards Patrick. She didn’t want the young vampire to be caught alone. She spotted the boy walking towards the town with his head down. She could tell that he was suspicious of the figure of the werewolf in the distance, and he had every right to be. Cora decided to keep a distance so the fledgling could hunt in peace, her eyes narrowed in on the young wolf, daring him to attempt anything.
