the players
the five hundred lucky ducks who got to first test the game before the release, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that these players know the game in and out. while many features have been added to the full release, many maps and locations have remained the same, making these dudes natural navigators. in reward for help the developers point out cheats and glitches, all participating beta testers have received an award for the full release. rather than start out with next to nothing, with the limited stats and one skill, they were granted one rare item, 20 additional statpoints, and the capability to choose two starter skills.
once beta went out, the developers realized that they wanted a more widespread opinion on how utopia worked. and so, one thousand more players were reeled in for alpha access. together, along with the existing betas, the alphas worked to exploit the game. their main goals were to explore, rather than point out hacks, and find weak points in the storyline, crafting, and other customization options. in reward for their service, when the full release went out, alphas were granted an additional ten statpoints, and the ability to choose a second starter skill.
a self-explanatory term, hackers are users who exploit the coding of utopia, and attempt to manipulate it in order to gain perks that they might not have access to at the starting point. most hacks are small; currency, additional skills. but sometimes there's a skilled hacker or two that can even manipulate the world, spawning npcs and bosses. they are widely despised in the utopia online world. reporting a hacker to the admin team can sometimes earn a player a reward, often rare items or an additional skill.
what makes up the large mass of the player-base, fr players [full release players ], or frps as they are called are the total noobs to the game. they've never before encountered the game, and so they are unaware of it's occurrences. but rest assured, they have friendly ais and even kindly tester players to help them!
ais, or artificial intelligence, are programs crafted by developers. most are programmed to have a singular goal in mind [i.e beat bosses, help players], and from there are released into the world. they interact with other players as if they are one, despite the fact that they are aware of their standing. functioning often as guides, artificial intelligences can actually join parties and guilds along with other players. on the downside, ais are stuck with whatever armor and weapons they are programmed with. while they do not have 'skills' per say, they can be regarded as powerful given the fact armor and weapons are unique to them, and them only, and often have an unusual quirk or two.
the brainless ais that interact with players, npcs often pose as weapons merchants, potion sellers, and such. many perform the boring jobs of the world, acting the part of 'just another face in the crowd'. while they can interact with players, npcs are emotionless and bland to talk to. on the bright side, they assign quests.
