> history > merci joined up the us coast guard directly out of highschool along with his childhood friend, nicholas, wanting nothing more than to serve his country. as someone who was comfortable with handling boats and the water from a young age, he figured he would meld right in. well, years passed this way, and the apocalypse hit. like many, he was desperate to return to his home in the states. so when he, and nicholas were dismissed from service, they returned to the town they had grown up in together. it was ruined. while poking around his empty house, merci discovered his younger brother's pet chinchilla, starving and on the verge of death, and so took her with him. making a pact to stick together, nick informed his friend of a possible solution - he owned a houseboat hidden away, and if they could get across the city, they could retrieve it. the plan worked out quite well, as together the two friends successfully paraded through the city, and achieved their goal. but their joy was short-lived, for not two weeks later, while they were docked and out scavenging the creatures attacked nicholas. desperate to save his friend, merci dragged his buddy's mutilated body back to the houseboat where he was forced to watch as his friend painfully, albeit slowly turned into a creature. in the end, merci had to shoot him, per the request of nicholas. now he travels pretty much along, save the companionship cubby.

>Personality> Rosa is great with machines. People, not so much. She's rude, abrasive, and has an acute sense of sarcasm that she applies liberally to whatever situation she's in. >history> If mortal hands built it, Rosa Isabella Gallegos can fix it. She's been working on cars since she could hold a wrench, be it with her dad, at school, or at the Jiffy lube where she worked before the outbreak. She was good at it too; she taught her automotives class more often than her teacher did, and people at school would even pay her to work on their cars. Along with this amazing level of mechanical inclination came a need for speed unmatched by anyone, and when she wasn't in her garage, Rosa could most often be found at the drag strip, testing a new upgrade she'd made, or just racing for the heck of it.

Despite her prowess with all things mechanical, Rosa actually wasn't all that good a student. She had a C average all through high school, and left as soon as she got her diploma, preferring to go into business with her own auto shop. She did pretty well for herself, until the outbreak hit. Rosa was a huge zombie nerd, so when the first stories of the undead filtered through the grapevine, she went into survival mode, tricking out an old deuce-and-a-quarter truck her dad had lying around into an anti-zombie death machine. Armor plates, bulletproof tires, and as many guns and bullets as Rosa could successfully lift from an abandoned sporting store made the truck a mobile fortress, capable of driving through a minefield with nothing more than a few dents. Once her magnum opus was complete, Rosa hit the road, after a few tearful goodbyes to her old souped-up Camaro. She wasn't exactly sure what she was going to do, but she knew she couldn't stay put.

> history > destined to follow in her father's footsteps, jo knew without any doubt in her mind, that she wanted to be a pilot when she grew up. her father was a commercial pilot, toting passengers and supplies across the country for roughly ten years before the depression struck, and the small airport he worked at had to be closed done. in the aftermath, he got a young as a flight instructor, teaching budding pilots how to control an airplane. among of which was his daughter, who got her license a year or so before the zombies came. well, jo's father died in the first wave of zombies, her mother disappearing soon after. since then she's lived in her father's personal airplane hanger, making a living by selling herself out to established gangs who are in need of a pilot. in return, they provide her with a limited amount of supplies, and the fuel needed to fly. every couple of months or so she'll receive word that she has a job. [i know this is unrealistic, but i figured pilots would be in demand in a world where travel is limited.]
