deep within the forested lands of maryland resides a small town only known as stillpool, a close knit community maxing
out at almost four hundred citizens. one of those everyone-knows-everyone types of places where hardly anything
more dramatic than a funeral occurs. but among the friendly faces dwells a family of secret, tucked away in the
forest near the outskirts of town. these people, referred to as the prestons, have lived among the wood for as long
as any of the longterm citizens can remember and are considered decent people. often the younger generations of
pretsons, there are many, can be seen wandering the town and are easily recognizable by the strange aura that
follows anywhere they happen to go.

Image

unknown to the townspeople surrounding them, the prestons aren't actually all related to one another. sure
they all go by the same surname in addition to their birth given names, but that is only to keep questions at bay.
many members of the family are from distant lands and have traveled to live with others of their kind and have
no worries of being hunted. hunted, not because they were bad people, more so the fact that they weren't people
at all. the prestons, born into or adopted into the name, are all of a single species. werewolves. but that isn't
something they parade about, only they and, if they have them, human mates know of this.

Kyle sneezed. He sat out in the cold. His eyes were wet from crying. He didn't like to do his weeping in the house, afraid that someone would hear him, so he just sat in the forest alone. As more tears fell down his face, he was afraid that the water would freeze on his face. He rubbed the tears off his face and sighed. He'd ruined his life. He was getting money from his fantastic and fun job; being a youtuber. Then, as he had almost touched his hands on the golden xbox controller-he turned. Everyone ran away. Now he was known as 'TheMonsterTraveler'. That thought made another tear fall down his face.

dreary eyed and still in that hazy realm between being fully conscious and the edge of sleep, the werewolf alpha perched himself near the end of his bed. the great lump of pristine white sheets beckoned him back into it warm embrace with the promise of 'just five more minutes'. but the man had already fallen victim to that trick too many times in the past to continue with the nasty habit. the left hand drug lazily across his tanned and bare chest, scratching as it went, before reaching his hair and combing itself through the bleached locks then lowering back onto the mattress and pressing downward to push it's owner up. the usual creaks and pops of stiff joints could be heard as mikey took to his feet and shuffled over toward a desk tucked neatly into the corner of the room. there, crumpled into a wrinkled heap, laid his clothing for the day; some odd navy blue sweater he'd found among the dust bunnies in the closet and a simple pair of sweatpants, nothing too exciting. with his eyes shut loosely, almost like an attempt to catch a few more seconds of sleep, mikey pulled the rumpled clothing onto his well toned body. he again shuffled about the room, this time toward the door and exited, his maroon and gray socks making the journey across the wood flooring of the house that much simpler.
upon approaching the stairwell, mikey's murky green eyes opened, casting an observant gaze across the hallway and then the living room below, and he began his descent. honestly the only thought in the alpha's mind at the moment was coffee, the scent of it wafting up lazily from the brewer settled in the kitchen clouding over the more important things buzzing about his tired mind. once his socked feet had hit the ground level's slick flooring, mikey straitened his posture and threw a glance back up the stairs. allowing for his pack members to see his morning routine of refusing to awaken until bargained with a scalding mug of a crushed bean isn't one of his main priorities, though most probably already knew of the habit. the tan skinned man took in the sight of the annoyingly bright lights strung up across the living room, quickly followed by the observation of multiple saint nicholas statues scattered about and the plastic tree looming over in one of the corners of the large room. he'd forgotten about christmas again, but continued shuffling across the wooden planked flooring into the kitchen. mikey drew an arm and placed it underneath his sweater near his neck, scratching at his collar bone while he picked a mug from the cabinet above the brewer. the odd act of scratching at his chest was a nervous habit, somehow the habit brought the alpha comfort as he went about day-to-day tasks. with glass mug in hand, the blonde haired man began the routine preparation of his morning coffee; three spoons of sugar, enough milk to dry out a cow, and some odd powder one of the other pack members had bought and now he couldn't get enough of. from where he stood, positioned by the kitchen window, mikey could swear he heard faint whimpers coming from the forest but he wasn't too keen to investigate with his freshly made coffee in hand. so he merely gazed out the window, taking note of the footprints in the thin layer of gray slush covering the ground.

Malum could feel the cold winter breeze ruffle his pitch black fur. It nipped at his legs which had shorter fur then his body. However, depsite the cold harsh weather, he had gone use to the cold, becoming almost friends with one another. Malum's silver greys looked around the bleak forest, it used to be filled with life. Animals would run around within he forest, the birds would be singing their harmonious tunes, the sun would be sprinkling through the canopy above andonto he ground in pools of light. But as he looked around, he didn't see that, he saw only bleak, lifeless, skeleton trees, the ground covered in a white blanket of snow and ice. Flattening his ears back, he huffed softly to himself. He truly did miss the summer, but being born in Russia, he had many years of getting use to he harsh winter climate. But he still didn't invite it with warm open arms.

Malum lifted his head drew in a deep breath before exhaling a ghostly white shape in front of his muzzle. Padding forward, he felt the cold snow beneath his paws. Reminding him of his wolf form. Malum had grown used to his wolf, bonding with it. It didn't cage it away like most would, he let go. Well not all the time, but in times like this when he was alone in he woods. It helped him become more stable with his wolf, and to better control it and understand it. Snorting at himself, he sounded more like a hippie who wanted world peace. Shaking his large head, he began to padd around in the forest, his ears up and alert and his nose sniffing the air.

Autumn had risen early to help out her father and younger brother. Rising from her warm bed reluctantly, she was hit by a tidal wave of cold air. Shivering violently she rose to her feet and wrapped her arms around her petite body frame. Quickly finding a jacket, she wrapped it aorund her body and slipped it up over her singlet. Pulling on her boots, she grabbed her compound bow and arrows, she loved to hunt and it was fun to even practice, and preferred to do it all by herself, even depsite the danger of getting injured or killed. Quietly wlaked out of her home with her brother and father still fast asleep.

As soon as Autumn got outside, she felt the cold air biting at her arms, neck, face and hands. "bloody hell it is cold." she cursed before she pulled her jacket sleeves down over her arms and her hood over her head. Turning she saw some people wondering around the place, she turned and began to hurriedly walk towards the forest.

Once she reache dthe forest, she turned once again, checking anyone who may be following her before she turned back aorund. She sprinted into the forest, her compound bow slung over her shoulders. She felt her breathing become ragged as she ran, the cold making her breath white in form of her. She hoped she could find something to hunt down today, it was hard to find anything in winter but she hoped to find something, even if it is a few rodents. They couldn't afford the food in town, so she was the one depended upon to get her and her family fed and to survive this winter.

He'd never liked crying. The last time anybody had cried in front of him, it had been the first, and, currently, last human to ever see him shift. She screamed and her teeth were bared and her eyes were wide and blue, very blue. Then there was no screaming, just the heavy scent of blood in the air and a body to go with it. This was why Macks had moved and taken on a different name - he needed a new identity, and he needed a place where he knew he was going to be accepted. He was certain he would get that here, in Stillpool.

Of course, wolves would be wolves, and there was still some awkwardness about meeting new people thanks to his brilliant mind and declining mental health. It had been an issue with him since he was little - a byproduct of past trauma coupled with a lack of chemicals in his brain. He'd decided to keep his social anxiety in check ever since arriving in Stillpool, but he was very rarely active in that. He avoided the town at all cost - only venturing there to grab things for the house if his 'family' had failed to do so themselves. He had only shifted twice within the last month, and once was simply due to a breakdown in the woodland area. He was lucky, nobody had seen, but the tree's surrounding him were marked and scarred for life, and he hated that.

Today would be different, though. As he zipped up his boots and slipped his black hoodie over his back, he calculated exactly how his interaction with Kyle was going to go. The kid was sensitive, and that was understandable. He was easily the most outed werewolf that Macks had ever heard of, but it wasn't wise to bring that up. The young ones were the worst - temperamental, skittish, savage when they were angry... it was just better left alone. His boots crunched through the frostbitten dirt, following the young male's scent until he finally, and slowly, reached him. There was an awkward silence that lasted over three minutes before he finally spoke, and even then it was in a simple, calm tone. "Kyle," He called. "I know everything sucks," He said as he stepped a little closer. "But you have a household full of people who have been through this too. We're all here to speak to. Why don't you, uh, come and play some games with me?" He offered, mentally biting his tongue at the suggestion.

Secret let out a gasp as she woke up. Her dream had slowly twisted into a nightmare
as she relived her family's slaughter. She wasn't one to be regularly plagued by night terrors but there
were always exceptions. Once she had calmed down from her dream, she rolled onto her back and
sighed. She couldn't shake the feeling of uneasiness from her nightmare but she forced herself up
anyway. It was nice that she was adopted into the Preston family but she still felt like a guest that
overstayed their welcome.

Secret swung her legs over the side of the bed and reached for the string to her bedside lamp. With a
loud click, the room was illuminated by the soft yellow light. The girl hoisted herself off the bed
and looked around the room for something to wear. She found a loose-fitting t-shirt and some skinny
jeans which may or may not have looked alright together but she didn't care. She reached in her
sock drawer for some thick wool socks and to her delight, she found a pair of blue and tan ones. She
quickly slipped her feet into the garments and smiled at her socked feet when they began to warm up
her toes.

"Warm feet are happy feet," she found herself thinking as she puttered around her room in her
cozy socks. She put a few things away and made her bed before she finally decided to venture out of
her room. She tried to close her door while making as little sound as possible as to not to disturb
anyone. She headed straight to the nearest bathroom and luck for her, it was unoccupied. She locked
the door once she was safely inside and turned to look at herself in the mirror above the sink. She saw
her same dark hair and eyes but at least the dark circles under her eyes had begun to dissappear.
Being safe in this house really cut down on her stress and for the first time since the attack on her
family, she had been able to sleep. She was grateful for that.

Erik had been up since the sun rose above the horizon. He sat on his grandmother's
porch with a large mug of steaming coffee in his hands. Even though it was cold and the town was
covered in sleet, he enjoyed his morning beverage outdoors. His grandmother was still asleep with
her large maine coon so Erik figured he had some time to kill before he helped the elderly woman
get on with her day. The woman had been there for him since he was small so he found it only fair
that he help her now that living on her own was harder.

Erik exhaled and could see his breath in the chilly morning air. He watched it rise before he took
another sip of his coffee. He liked his coffee how he liked moth things: unadulterated. The bitter
dark roast coffee never failed to energize and get his body ready for the day ahead. The man was
quick to drain the mug before his drink cooled but instead of heading inside, he stayed out.

He gazed at the forest just across the street from the small house he shared with his grandma. It was
sparse this time of year and although the smaller game had gone, he thought that he saw predators
still roam the trees from time-to-time. His grandmother always said he was crazy and that wolves had
been gone for decades from these forests but he doubted the dark figures he had seen while growing up
were anything other than wolves. Today he saw nothing and thus turned to go back inside and greet his
waking grandmother.

acting upon sudden impulse, mikey picked his mug up by the hilt and started towards the front door. among many other not-so-neatly-stacked pairs of shoes the alpha was able to pinpoint his converse and yank them free of the tangled shoelaces surrounding them. hurriedly, for seemingly no reason at all, he pulled the hightops on and sloppily tied the laces. mikey stooped low to retrieve his mug from the floor before gripping the front door's knob and stepping outside. from between the barren trees slipped a playful yet chilling breeze, brushing over mikey's covered arms and whisking the heat from himself off towards nothingness. with the door closed behind him, the werewolf, mind now clear and alert as caused by the cold, realized the completely unnecessary actions he had just preformed. rushing out into the cold for what, a bit of gray sludge on the ground and a cold?
he huffed, suspicious green eyes sweeping over the off-white landscape before him. if the wind would just blow the opposite direction for a moment, he would be able to convince himself his actions meant nothing, that nothing was slinking through the forest toward his family's home. for the first time this morning, mikey spoke, but it was merely profanity swept away by the wind. the alpha's head bowed momentarily, his teeth nibbling upon the interior of his lip as his mind pulled together pieces. someone must've left the house without informing anyone, that had to be it, that had to have been what caused the sudden urge to lumber outside in the biting cold. taking a deliberately slow swig from the mug, mikey allowed for his eyes to wander back up towards the wood and he leaned against one of the porch's thick support beams. his list of house rules crept to mind, punishment for breaking said rules looming close by, and the alpha ground his teeth together. why put rules into place when all anyone ever did was cast them aside and run willy-nilly into the forest? color flushed mikey's freckled cheeks, tinting them pink, whether it was cause by the cold air whipping past or his sudden anger towards his own rules may never be known, possibly it was a combination of both. either way the tall man narrowed his eyes towards the trees, he should've done away with the more ridiculous rules anyways, no need for them if they were a burden to everyone.

Kyle looked up. His face flushed red as someone had seen him crying. How long had it been? How loud had he been? "Uh..n-no thanks.." The younger werewolf murmured. His mind then switched to that night while someone was still watching him.

I felt jittery. I decided it was just me being nervous, all those people out there, but I wouldn't let anything take away the chances of me losing the trophy. Panting, I shut myself up. I strode out onto the stage. It was definantly nervousness. It grew as I stared at the people. The announcers called my name, and I walked up to the golden trophy-

I snapped. My body got longer and furrier. My mind was a blank, I couldn't tell what was happening. Next thing I know, I had killed twelve people.

He couldn't even think of it right. It was so blurry..all Kyle remembered was waking up in a forest, his shirt stained with crimson blood. Kyle just stared at Macks. "I'm sure I d-don't ever want to play games." Macks had messed with a wild bull when he brought up games. It made him full of emotion, mostly regret and sadness. As if on cue, Kyle's mood ring eyes changed yellow. He looked away, covering his eyes.

'You're in trouble.' The words flashed through his mind, burned themselves into his train of thought. The nervous wolf kicked his foot out at the floor, hands seeking the pockets of his hoodie for comfort and security. He hated talking to people at the best of times, but a young, temperamental werewolf was dangerous and he knew it only too well. "Are you sure? I can... make you some food? It's just..." He breathed in through his nose, catching the scent of his alpha in the air. "Neither of us told Mike we were going outside. It's safer inside, anyway." He tried to throw as many excuses out there as he could, but he was failing quickly.

The interaction had gone badly so far, so Macks decided to crouch down to Kyle's level, wondering if that might make him feel a little less embarrassed about the situation. "Everybody cries, m-" His words caught in his throat when he noticed the dramatic change in eye colour, but he continued anyway. Maybe Kyle needed to release all his negative energy physically? Macks wouldn't mind - he was easily the most timid of the wolves there but his size and build allowed him to take a decent beating before he was in any real danger. "...man. Everybody cries sometime. Everything sucks and it'll get better but you should come back to the house." He was trying to help, to convince Kyle for his own benefit. Humans would take fantastic advantage of a young tearaway. "And when you're ready, you can play games again."

ALOIS
LEONARD

unknown ᖫᖭ macks and kyle
scent death and cherry blossoms
role bounty hunter ᖫᖭ waitress
mood worried, calm

raising her head she caught the scent of something different. the air had changed and it was replaced by the gross stench of death, much like her own, just not as sweet. it was true, life was never a bore for a young hunter, but that also came with surprises along the way. observing her surroundings the young girl hopped down from her perch and landed softly on the ground; so softly only the wolves could hear her. well this is just fan freaking tastic; im lost in the middle of no where. curse hunter and all his brilliant ideas for tracking.
raising her head above the bushes she spotted two rather suspicious figures. smiling through gritted teeth she took hold of her black silencer pistol and brought it to her chest. slowly aloisa stepped out of the bushes and sneered at the males, until her gaze landed on the younger one. she had seen him around, and from the look on his face, he wasnt having to good of a time now. hearing one of them mention a game she gazed to the ground, feeling something pull at her heart strings. sighing she stepped closer to the more calm male and held out a bottle of water. "here. it is laced with herbs to calm the muscles and mind, have him drink it." she silently eyed the younger male, who was about one or two years younger than her. anyway, it was probably still new for him, the changes and all.
