Smith followed the trail through the shrubs, and noticed the clumps of blood and fur hanging off of some of the branches.
Whatever had come through here, he thought dryly,
wasn't in very good shape. He pushed a dense bush away, seeing an orange wolf laying down in the dirt. Smith trudged over, inspecting the condition of the wolf. It was bruised and bloodied, with large gashes on its legs. If the pelt were cleaner it would make a nice coat or something of that sort, but if he wanted the pelt, the creature would have to heal. Can't damage the goods. Now that he thought about it, all of the wild animals that the hunters had taken out were battle damaged, and if they wanted them up for full price, they would have to keep them alive and contained long enough for them to heal. It would be a hassle, but it'd be worth it in the long run.
((I put in the part about keeping them alive so that the wolves had time to be rescued or escape on their own, Btw!
