Raven shook her head, almost unnoticeably, at the first thought that popped into her mind. She was scared, but her uncle had always told her that if she was afraid to do something, she just had to count down from three and do it without thinking. That would be extremely difficult, here and now. She felt as if her stomach was in her throat but she sighed and looked over at Ruty, unable to imagine how worried she might look right now. She began the countdown in her head.
3... this is a terrible idea.
2... he's gonna push you away and hate you if you do this.
1... don't. Don't do it.
But she did it. All in one quick, uncoordinated move she placed a hand on the side of his cold face and kissed him gently.
It didn't last long, because she backed out about two seconds after her mind was made up.
She very much wanted to get up and leave and pretend it never happened.
"Hope that helped," she coughed awkwardly. Her mind was reeling so quickly that she couldn't focus on a single thought, and everything was blank to her.
