Celco's green eyes darted around the room. Grabbing the light switch, he tugged on it gently, wrinkling his nose at the faint smell. A light filled the room, making everything look a lot friendlier. Why did he just see that? Was he hallucinating? Peeling back his blankets, Celco gingerly stepped out. The floor was cold to the touch, but he spread his feet on the floor, wavering just a little bit from the sudden movement. After all, he did just wake up. Celco rubbed his temples, heading towards the corridor. He glanced at the clock. Five o'clock in the morning... not too far off from dawn. When he reached the door, he felt a hot wave of heat, and the smell grew stronger. Then his brain finally caught up with him. The smell. Celco's eyes widened when he realized. The smell... it's fire...! Stumbling back from the hot door, Celco rushed to his window and jumped up onto the sill. He lived on the second floor, but it shouldn't kill him if he climbed down far enough... but how? Scanning the room, Celco's eyes landed on his bed sheets. The smell was growing more severe by the moment. Dashing forwards, he grabbed the sheets and twisted them into long rolls. Then he tied the two sheets together. Pulling the knot tight with his teeth, Celco took a deep breath and tied one end to his bed post. The other end he threw out the window. It trailed more than halfway down the wall's length. With no time to test it's strength, Celco coughed and threw himself out the window, barely grabbing onto the fabric. Too fast. Celco's palms started burning like there was fire on the bedsheets. His breaths ragged, he quickly wrapped his legs around the fabric, trying to imitate a silk climber, but slowly failing. He never knew how hard it was to grasp onto a piece of fabric. Just a little further and he could possibly jump down safely. The chance never came. Just as Celco was getting ready to slide down again, the knot strained and gave in. Celco shouted in surprise and braced himself. The fall didn't hurt as much as he thought it would be, but it was enough to knock the wind completely out of him. Gasping for breaths, Celco rolled onto his stomach with a groan. How did the fire start anyway? It definitely didn't start from his house, he was sure. It's because of the already half burnt townhouses down the road.
