Melo | 20 | prince of Ulea | woods
The prince could feel Sibyl's eyes burn into his back, and heard the metal whisper as she had slid out her dagger. Oddly enough, the thief's weapon being drawn brought a small comfort to the prince. He had seen bandits before, when his father occasionally dragged him along to a court he was attending, or the time that one was foolish enough to try to rob the castle. They were pitiful beings, pushed past some sort of line that left them with no pride or self-worth, begging for mercy, a dribble of lies dripping down their chins as they spoke about reshaping and getting better (the few that had been released were almost always found guilty of some other crime within the month) their eyes wolf-like and their hands restless. He did not want to meet one today, especially with these two and their current states.
Melo turned at Sibyl's words, shrugging lightly, though regretted it when it made Krea shift, issuing a small mumble from her. "I am able to leave on occasion, with the king's consent, though most of my time outside the castle is unknown to him. He doesn't like when I leave without his permission." he averted his eyes. He could avoid them now, but he remembered punishment: the stern words, followed by the locked doors which would last days at a time, given meals under the chink at the bottom of the door. It wasn't a terrible punishment, he wasn't starved and he received no thrashings, but the silence of the bedroom could almost drive him mad. One time he had thrown all of his books off of his desk, sent the pens and papers and little baubles flying. It had felt so good, but the silence didn't go away. A few hours afterwords he had gotten to cleaning it up, and by the time he was released the room was spotless.
He shrugged off the memory, and looked back at Sibyl. "well, that's an answer from me, now it's my turn. Why were you attacking that man? You said you we're a thief, not a wrestler." He could have asked a bit more serious question, like what crimes could get her hanged, but her question hadn't been too personal, and he didn't want to completely scare her off.
Happiness can be found in the darkest of times
if only one remembers to turn on the light.
