I heard Devin's voice and saw her as she approached. "Good morning." I said cheerfully and showed the plate full of flapjacks to her. "I made pancakes, and sure you can have -Ohmygoodness a kitty cat!" I had noticed Adrasteia lurking around with Devin, but this was the first time I had seen the cat face to adorable face. "Well, as I was saying, here's your plate Madam." I was in the process of handing her the plate, when I noticed that the area we were in didn't have any tables or chairs and I wasn't going to force these women to sit on the floor, so I paused for a moment to think of where I could get one. At least Taegen and Kilee could sit on their beds and dine, and Ellie- I stamped my foot as I realized I had forgotten about Ellie.
I bet she'll hate me more than she already does for forgetting her. I thought glumly. I had tried to force her out of my thoughts and I had succeeded too well. I sighed and returned back to problem at hand. "Hold on a second." I said. "I'm not going to let you fine ladies eat on the floor. Wait a minute and I'll come back with a table and some chairs." Taking my plates with me, I scampered quickly down the hall towards the part of the laboratory that I had seen Cora in earlier. It was also the same place that she had carried me to get my fangs milked, hence the table I had slept on and the chairs she had used. Even if she was using them at the moment, I could still deliver her and Chester breakfast.
What an odd little group we make. I thought as I entered the lab. I truly abhorrent sight greeted me and my cheery smile immediately turned into a grimace. All at once, my senses were bombarded with a set of unsavory scenes. The first thing my eyes focused on was Chexie and his infected wound, while my ears simultaneously picked up the gut-churning sound of Cora vomiting into a trashcan. I shook my head slowly as I took in the details and set the plates down into a chair at my left. I was glad I had already eaten, otherwise I would have lost my appetite pretty quickly. I hoped the Leena and Devin would understand why I was delayed. I tried to decide who I would comfort first.
Poor Cora. I was surprised that she had anything inside her to cough up, considering that I had yet to see her eat anything.
Poor Chexie. I could tell even from where I stood in the doorway that he was suffering with a severe fever caused by the onset of the infection. I decided that Chester was the more important case here, justified since his condition would only decline without care, and Cora could recover on her own. Like with Leena and Devin, I just hoped she would be able to understand. "Poor lamb." I cooed as I approached him. "Bless your heart." The infection was a ghastly sight, but, admittedly, it didn't bother me that much. I could understand why this sight might cause Cora to be sick to her stomach, especially since she pretty much only worked around machines and other nonliving things, but I had gotten used to seeing similar sights in my adolescence. I gingerly touched Chester's hand. "What has she done with the wound already? Just tell me what to do and I'll do it."
