Beginning of the End {New and Accepting}

Bryan grinned but froze when he heard someone. He looked and quickly tried to get out of the overalls as if being seen like that was worse than being attacked.

Jake laughed when he made the funny face and tried to cover his mouth with his hand. When he calmed down he said, "Red and white stripes? I bet you looked like a candy cane." He laughed again before saying, "it actually was farm like. We didn't have farm animals, but we did have a garden and lots of land." He smiled, thinking back to his little home and large field.

Carter smiled fondly at Jake as the younger boy thought back, then stood up abruptly. "I'm gonna see if I can find any food in the kitchen. If the stove is gas powered, we might even be able to have a warm meal if they have a wood stove." Which would be unlikely, he thought. Carter ruffled Jake's hair before moving around the couch to go rummage around the kitchenette that was attached to the living room. Naturally, the stove was gas powered, and the gas went out when there were the explosions. Sighing, Carter just stuck to rummaging through the cabinets for anything edible.

Jake's face scrunched up when his hair was ruffled, but he smiled nonetheless. He straightened his hair out before he went back to petting Midnight. 'He's really nice... It's probably a one in a million chance to find someone nice these days, and yet...' He sighed softly. 'I must have a lot of luck today.'

Opening the first cabinet, Carter's expression twisted to one of disgust. God, why would people have so many cans of sardines? "Oi, Jake! Do you like sardines? These people have enough for five armies!" Without waiting for Jake's answer, he closed the cabinet and moved onto the next. Boxed dinners, canned cherries, a box of uncooked rice, nothing that would make a meal for a couple of growing kids. Carter clicked his tongue, looking around the kitchen with unhappiness.

(Pfffft, you're passing up canned cherries and uncooked rice?! Come on, man! That's legit grub, bro!! XD)

Jake also gained an expression of disgust at the mention of sardines. "Sardines? Ew... Maybe Midnight will eat them..." He looked down at Midnight, who was glaring at him. As if she would eat sardines. Jake laughed a bit before saying to Carter, "what's there? Anything good?"

(Also, sorry. I was eating.)

Okay. I am legit confused. XD I'll just roll with it.)

Okami leaned to the side, her head tilted. She tried to comprehend such strange things but quickly gave up. Just keep walking. She tried her best to sneak by, not wanting to get caught up in such silliness.

Kirito played with his cards a bit longer before standing up and walking inside the mall. He wanted to get something to eat and go back inside. The girl with white hair seemed to be shocked or surprised at the 'fashion show.' He chuckled and walked by, hands in his pocket.

Bryan, in an attempt to take off the overalls, had gotten himself tangled up and was now face down on the floor. "Caaaaspiaaaaan. Heeeeeelp meeeee."

Okami let out a small giggle but quickly put a hand over her mouth. She rushed over to lend a hand, not looking the fallen boy in the eyes. "C-can I help in any way?" She asked; as she held out a hand.

Kirito chuckled and kept walking. His eyes on his deck of cards, not really watching where he was going.

"Do you like cherries? How about stale saltine crackers? If so, then we've hit the jackpot. We're rolling in edible meals. My god, if we had one more can of creamed corn, we'd be kings." There was a not-so-subtle annoyance in Carter's voice as he hopped up on the counter, swinging his feet back and forth like a little kid. "But, I suppose, we can't be picky. Come and take what you might want. I'm gonna have some crackers for the night."

Bryan twitched, not liking the constricting feeling. "Please untangle me!" He squirmed, knocking the cowboy hat off his head.

Jake laughed at Carter's sarcasm as he stood up. He set Midnight on the couch before going into the kitchen. "I guess cherries will do." He looked through the cabinet before getting the canned cherries. We would have hopped onto the counter like Carter, but he was afraid he was too short and would end up making a fool of himself.
