We were his puppets. We were his lab rats. We would be used for entertainment and nothing more. We fought to the death just to live for another fight. All for our “creator” or more commonly known as The Puppet Master. No longer.
Those of us who were strong enough in mind and body fought against The Puppet Master and his Rats. Rats are those of us who were not strong enough to resist his control. He controlled us by chips that were implanted in our arms along with a tattooed name. However, we don’t ever use them anymore.
Those of us who fought and escaped built a new home away from the musty cages and rats. We now live our lives as we used to. We too were once humans who lived among the common folk. But as times changed and the wealthy grew richer and the poor fell further in to poverty, the definition of “common folk changed.” Those who were in the middle class or lower were either killed or captured and given to The Puppet Master.
We underwent many experiments and those who lived were the strong yet unfortunate souls that are fighting for freedom now. We were fused with animals and some even gained a new gift. The gift is either shifting or being able to conjure a spirit animal to be by their side. There is of course rare cases where some of us found we could do both.
We now call ourselves The Spirit Walkers since we were the unbroken ones or the fighters. A wall has been put up to protect our small kingdom. Crops are grown along with livestock and we did manage to gain some outside technology from humans who pity us. However, we the Spirit Walkers are starting from scratch to rebuild our lives. No matter how peaceful it seems within the walls, we always have to be on alert.
Prowlers or more Rats constantly patrol looking to take us back to the Puppet Master. We still fight to live, but we do not fight for him. We are truly ourselves.
