The rest of the day went by slowly with me trying to deduce what had gone down between Mr. Duke and Hikyro without looking at Mr. Duke too often, and studying for various assignments in between classes. It wasn't the most interesting thing in the world, especially since I was anxious to talk with Leslie and Hikyro at five, but I suppose there are more boring activities. By three my classes were over and I went to research at the library. It would be so nice to have internet access on my laptop once I had moved into me and Leslie's place but it would be awkward to be right next to her and be studying instead of talking about the 'plan'. At four-thirty I got up with my books and left the library, traveling on bus to my little hide-away. I scrounged around until I found four cardboard boxes in a musty cupboard and then I gathered my few possessions into them. I stared at the boxes feeling foolish for a minute. How was I going to get these all over to Leslie's? I was strong but each one weighed a ton and I couldn't possibly carry them all at once. I could take several trips but when I looked at the clock I had to dismiss the idea. I was already running late! The only thing to do was ask a stranger for help. I raced outside and reluctantly stopped the first stranger I saw and asked politely if he could help me. The stuffy-looking business man pretended not to hear me and rushed off as fast as he could. I sighed disgustedly and went to ask a woman leaning against the building smoking a cigarette. She wasn't dressed particularity well but beggars and can't be choosers and so I went and pleaded with her anyway. "Sorry sweetcheeks," she choked out, "I don't swing that way." I almost gagged at her wild assumption. I didn't even consider trying to explain and instead walked away chuckling. Obviously this wasn't working so I switched tactics when I watched a teenage boy strolling towards me. "Hey you look strong and fit. I have a few boxes I need to move. If you helped me there might be a generous reward in store for you." I smiled mischievously at him. He, of course, agreed to help very eagerly and in a few short minutes we were stepping off the bus in front of my shared apartment. The handsome boy looks at me questioningly and I gesture for him to follow me. I stop right before door number '7' and set my two boxes down. He quickly sets the others down and gazes at me eyebrows raised. I hold up one finger to tell him to wait a moment and then I unlock the door shove my stuff through and walk to stand right in front of him, leaving the door ajar. "Time for that reward, eh?" I whisper. I slide a ten from my pocket and into his pants pocket. He seems to think it's part of the game. I smile and rapidly bid him good-bye as I slip through the door and slam it in his face before he can say a word. I lean against it for a moment blowing a strand of hair from my eyes. Ya gotta do what you gotta do, right? Lifting my eyes I find Hikyro and Leslie staring at me curiously. I distract them by apologizing for being late but I considerately skip the boring details, clearing my throat and asking instead, "So Hikyro, what happened with you and Mr. Doomsday?"
