"You don't... seem to understand that I literally cannot process emotional pain," Adrian said, closing his eyes tightly and massaging his temples. "You're trying so very hard to get me to understand whatever you think it is you're going through and get me to feel remorse for... whatever indistinct thing it is you're upset about, but I literally can't," he said, sounding quite frustrated. "And for somebody who wants me out of your life, you certainly do a whole lot of calling me with vague messages about somebody who wants to kill me and what I can do to stop them but you can never just tell me what! So out with it. Here and now. What is it that is SO pressing that you can't just go on and happily live your life with the education I've funded for you and the life that I helped you maintain?"

"Adrian, I know you can't. That was my purpose because all I've done.. not a single thank you except one. What makes you think I'll live after I tell you?" Her eyes were narrowed at him, her green inhuman eyes.

"Then don't tell me," Adrian frowned, opening his eyes again. "And go about and live your life and be content knowing that I am not your problem anymore. If I upset you so very much why do you insist I continue to be a part of your life?" he asked, looking genuinely confused about this. "I am a remorseless monster. I make you miserable. That's what I do. That's what I do for everyone. So why are you so intent on being that miserable?"

"My father gets out tomorrow." Ellie fixed her shirt, she was done being angry, it drained her. "What the point? I feel kind. Today is my twenty first birthday, my gift to you." She put her hair up in a bun. "Adrian, they are all basically like robots. If you kill three people that are incharge.. they turn to dust, never to be created again. I know two out of the three." She ajusted her bag, "why I want you in my life? You're more than you think.. I wanted to be a friend Adrian, but looks like I'm in the pet/prey catigory. You were kind once Adrian.." Her eyes left his and she headed towards the bar to get one beer to relief stress.

"I've never been kind, Ellie," Adrian called calmly after her, making no move to follow. "I've always been a monster. It's like the little birds that the crocodiles allow to hop between their teeth and clean them without harming them. Mutually beneficial relationships are a large part of the animal kingdom. It wasn't going to do me well to verbally harass you day by day when you were being so kind as to keep me sane. It's a predatory mechanism for me to seem personable, Ellie. That's just the way it is. Perhaps I ought to show you how I hunt sometime. Then perhaps you'd understand," he said before turning off in the direction he had been going in to begin with. "And by the way, I resent your dying alone comment. I'm quite happily engaged to another monster. As of today, in fact. I've no intention of dying. And especially not alone."

"I'm a bad friend, Ellie. I'm the sort your parents warn you about," answered Adrian, pausing to look back and shake his head. "Or that they would, at least, if they weren't apparently less civilized than I am. Thank you for the warning. I can take care of myself from here."
