- Acosta felt sorry for the girl, seeing that fat tears were sliding rapidly down her cheeks. He was unable to draw closer or tighten his grip though. The very fact that he was touching a complete stranger was incredibly rare for him. And then she did the unthinkable, she drew her arms around his neck and gave him a tight hug. Lukas yelped in surprise and horror and tried to back out of her grip. But she leaned her face on his shoulders and continued crying. Heat rose into Lukas’s face, starting from his ears and then creeping onto his shallow gray cheeks. He felt too warm for comfort at the moment and the only thing he wanted to do was run away. Finally, she released her grip and returned to hugging her knees. Lukas backed up a few steps, ensuring that he would not be touched again. She repeated her spiel, this time with more calmness in her voice. Lukas had nothing to say, so he let an awkward silence fall in between them. His face still burning from her touch.
- “Yes,” Ebony remarked to his comment. She stared upwards at the ever lightening sky and a surge of happiness flooded through her body. The stars winked down at the couple; they kept her secret safe with them. She reeled in shock when Cooper nipped at her cheek tenderly; he had broken her concentration on the night sky. He reminded her that they had a job to do, not just a night stroll. Glad her fur covered her cherry red cheeks, she chased after Cooper. Although she was one of the fastest wolves in the pack, his head start kept him far a head of her. Finally, she stalled by his side, panting. “Good morning, Blake.” She mind linked the alpha, dipping her head respectfully. She eyed the other three with confusion. Wasn’t patrol generally four wolves? Whatever. “And good morning Stormie, Roxx, and Daniel.”
