I hear something land on the spire above me and jerk out of my daze. I look up and see a falcon. My first instinct as an arabian leopard is to eat it, until I remember seeing Namara turn into one like this. I grudgingly turn human again and ask, McNamara?

(Yeah, I know. She can shift into horse, Spanish lynx, and peregrine falcon.)

Merlyn looked down at Majd. Still having trouble shifting back to her human form, she simply nodded in reply.

I nod back and sit back down, then I call over my shoulder, If you fancy getting soaked, then by all means, stay there, but it's dry down here if you want. Well, dry-ish.

Merlyn rolled her eyes - or, at least, did whatever is as close as a falcon can get to rolling its eyes - and hopped down. She closed her eyes and concentrated on trying to shift. It took a few tries, as usual, but she managed to get back into human form. She sat down and pulled her knees up to her chest, resting her head on them and looking down at the ground far below. She loved being up high. It made her feel so free from the world below.

Awkward silence... I sigh and in an effort to pass the time I try counting how many tiles there are on the roof. I quickly tire of this and lean my head against the wall, one knee bent and the other straight. I take a deep breath of the musty air. I close my eyes.
I take another breath and open my eyes, I look at Namara, sitting so still, just watching everything below her. I sigh, So, you told me your last name, what's your first?

(Something about Merlyn makes me want to write in 1st person, so I'm going to switch to 1st person now. XD)

I was a little surprised by the end of the silence. But then again I was always the only person I knew who enjoyed it.
"It's Merlyn," I told him. "But I go by McNamara or Namara. Whichever you prefer."

I smile,So, is your only shift a falcon? I ask, just for the sake of curiosity. My mother told me it was rude to always be asking everyone questions, but my father encouraged it, said it was healthy to feed my mind.

Questions. I sighed in my mind. Oh well. It was good for me to learn to communicate.
"No, but it's the one I use most," I replied. "On purpose, that is. I can also shift into a horse or Spanish lynx." I was quiet for a moment, but since Majd obviously didn't care too much for silence, I decided to continue the conversation. "What about you?" I inquired.
