James smiled at Dominique's attempt at an apology. "It's not like you planed for this to happen. I know you're in a lot of pain, and that's fine. Well not fine, but understandable. I just want to make sure you are ok." James walked ahead of Dominique in order to clear a log out of the way. He had walked no more than a few paces before finding himself falling in a dark hole. James screamed and desperately tried to grip the side walls, but can get his hand on nothing more than loose dirt. Corin flew from his shoulder when he fell and was swirling madly over the hole from which his friend disappeared. Corin was shouting James' name over and over again, but it came out as nothing more than a shrill whistle. James desperately tried to find something to grab. He fell what seemed like 20 feet, though it was probably less than that. Finally he landed on his tail bone, hard. The force of the landing caused him to hit his head on one of the side walls. His vision blacked out for a second then slowly faded back into perspective. James looked around. It was dark and he couldn't see much.
Corin, relax. I'm okay. He said to his feathered friend who was still panicking above. James got to his feet. His tailbone was bruised, but that was the least of his worries. He looked up and saw the circle of light from which he fell. "Dominique! Dominique can you hear me?"
