(Conner was never flying, but sure. The three of us can get our characters to bump into each other at Carter's temporary hut. Oh, and sorry for the length of the post, trying to get two or three day's worth of inspiration out.)
He had slowed down to a heavy-pawed lope, the past events and four years of living in the Complex's cells finally catching up and taking their toll. Rather than four minutes, he now guessed that he'd be taking at least half and hour to get where the younger mutants were. Conner stared blankly ahead, not very pleased with his situation. He was in a strange forest, was certainly physically, and perhaps a bit mentally, exhausted, and really didn't know if he could trust Maya and Thunder. His tail flicked at that thought. Correction: He could trust Thunder, but the electric girl, he wasn't so sure.
Coming to a fallen tree Conner stopped. Rather than jumping over it he decided to skirt around it, too tired to reason anything out. As he followed the length of the trunk something else distracted him from his mindless task of following their scent. There was another mutant's scent in the air, and pretty close, too. His ears pinned back, seriously annoyed with himself. Obviously he hadn't been paying enough attention to the surroundings. Someone could have sneaked up behind him and attacked, and in his weakened state, he wouldn't be able to readily defend himself.
Suddenly he realized that he had come to a small, dilapidated hut, probably a groundskeeper's storage shed, judging by the apparent lack of windows. This was where the mutant's scent was coming from, mixed with dust and loam and mildew and rich, moist earth and vegetation... he could go on forever. At times like this he realized just how useless human noses were.
Conner figured that he needed that nose, and the rest of his human body, back. He didn't want to scare the mutant, a male now that he noticed it, by arriving as a huge wildcat. This time the shift back took long enough for the pain to make a mark. Luckily it disappeared by the time he was standing, shivering with fatigue and cursing himself for ditching his shirt. But it would have been too much material to keep track of, and he'd rather keep his dignity. Then he walked over to the empty doorway, peering in. "Hello?" he said, making out a large form, pale chest and face standing out while the rest of him made a half-hearted attempt at melding with the shadows. Then, seeing that he was asleep, Conner shook his head and sat cross legged in the doorway, looking out at the forest.
(Oh man, my hands are cramped from all this writing
