“He’s not doing anything.” One of the angels told Death. He pointed the way to Life’s chamber. “Gabriel is with him, but Life is just lying on the floor doing nothing.”
It was true, because when Renee stuck her head around the corner of one of the ornate doors, and looked into the big room furnished with a huge bed and furniture like wardrobes and drawers, she could just see Life lying on the floor near a koi pond that was in the centre of the room for some reason. There was an angel sat on the floor not far away from Life, eyes closed as if he were asleep. Renee frowned and slipped into the room before she could be told not to, curiosity growing. She stopped when she got to the other side of the koi pond, as she’d been walking around it, and just stared at the angel and the boy on the floor. “Death... Someone’s bitten the angel’s neck...”
The angel was still breathing, but his neck was bitten, and blood was hidden from sight of the door by the angel’s long brown hair. The child on the floor had been bitten too, and Renee was about to make a start towards him when she was shoved into the koi pond.
“Hello brother!” Life was in his vampire form again, hiding from his distraught emotions and replacing them with rage. “Someone has finally come to see if I’m alright, isn’t that sweet? I like this form better, it doesn’t burn up from the inside and hurt. I was useless as a kid anyway, the last thing I did in that form was out of stupid kindness anyway. I altered the child’s thoughts so it thinks War and Victoria are its adoptive parents. I might just snap its neck. What do you think?”
Renee spluttered as she made it to the surface. She attempted to swim to the side but yelped as she was pulled under the water again instead. “I could kill her, she’s not immortal yet, wouldn’t that be fun...? We could watch her drown. I could kill everyone then I wouldn’t have to lose my precious creations to the stupid human race.” Renee surfaced again for a few moments, gulping down air before she disappeared back under the water.
He crouched down next to the pool and frowned at Renee, “Or, more likely, you’ll stop me with some sappy words. Oops wait, I forgot, I’m a vampire, that doesn’t work.”
