vampires were originally humans, long, long ago. like, seriously. long ago
there was a mutation in the DNA in a very small population of humans which meant their bodies could not produce enough digestive enzymes - but blood already contains dissolved components which are required for functioning, without necessarily needing to be broken down, which is what led to the eventual development of vampires drinking blood. theyre actually p nice about it though, and generally don't put anyones life in danger bc of it. good & pure vampires
and of course, over time they develop traits to become more suited for this [ie FANGS]
