Prompt:Quint had been startled when they were approached by what appeared to be a wild Charizard, recalling their Snover immediately. Their wariness quickly turned to confusion as the Charizard took out a chalkboard from their bag and began to write, explaining that way that their name was Amiko and that they wanted to be a pokemon trainer but needed help selecting their starter. As if to prove their words, a Bulbasaur, Totodile, and Chingling appeared from the underbrush once Quint finished reading. The trainer's eyes widened.
"You... really want to be a trainer?" They turned their attention to Amiko, who quickly scribbled on their chalkboard and turned it to Quint.
'Yes!!'
Quint leaned back on their heels. They had never heard of such a thing, but... the Charizard
seemed fully capable of doing such a thing. At the very least, it was capable of writing and communicating. Why
couldn't a pokemon be a pokemon trainer? If anything, they would be very suited for it, as they wouldn't have any sort of language barrier with their pokemon. Quint smiled.
"Alright. I'll be happy to help you, then."
Amiko erased their chalkboard, wrote something, and turned it back to Quint.
':D!!' Amiko beamed, matching the little face they drew in a way that made Quint's heart soften.
The human shifted on their hips, regarding the pokemon Amiko was trying to decide between. "...Bulbasaur and Totodile would be the best bet from a battle standpoint," Quint said at last, "Both have pretty strong evolutions and learnsets. Though, Bulbasaur would probably be the best bet in that regard: it's the only one that gains an additional typing when evolving,
and it has a Gigantamax form, which would probably help you in the Gym Challenge." The Bulbasaur puffed her chest out as Quint spoke, raising their chin proudly. The Totodile, on the other hand, seemed to be trying to stretch up to be taller than her, but couldn't quite manage it. The Chingling looked like she could cry.
A frown tugged at the edges of Quint's mouth. They lowered into a crouch, slowly reaching out to stroke the Chingling's ribbon comfortingly. The little bell pokemon looked up at them, sniffling. Quint did their best to smile.
"
But, I think I would actually recommend this little one." The Chingling trilled in confusion, and Quint went on. "I've never seen a wild Chingling in Galar before. You two must be very special to have met each other." Quint paused to smile up at Amiko, who seemed rather flustered at the suggestion, turning away and rubbing the back of their head bashfully. "Psychic type isn't a
bad type, and while Chingling and Chimecho may not be the strongest pokemon, any pokemon
can be strong if trained well and paired with a good team." Quint stood as they spoke to meet Amiko's gaze. "If I remember correctly, Chingling is a pokemon that only evolves when it has a strong bond with someone else too. She has potential, and you seem like the perfect trainer to help her reach that."
Amiko and the Chingling looked at each other once Quint finished talking. After a moment, Amiko opened their arms with a purr-like rumble, and the Chingling leapt into them with a ring like laughter. She was quick to scamper up Amiko's arm and settle on their shoulder, wrapping her little arms around the dragon's neck in a hug. Amiko brought one talon up to rustle the Chingling's ribbons, and with the other they managed to scribble something on their chalkboard and turn it to Quint.
'Thank you!' Amiko shot them a smile that Quint found impossible not to return.
"Of course." The idea of a pokemon being a pokemon trainer was... odd, admittedly, but Quint supposed there wasn't any reason why they
couldn't be. Their Champion had a Charizard - why couldn't their Champion
be a Charizard?
Quint grinned and offered their hand out for Amiko. "I look forward to seeing you in the Gym Challenge."
Amiko took their hand and shook it, grinning back and nodding. They didn't need to write to get their point across then.
A sniffling at their feet caught Quint's attention, and they looked down to find the Bulbasaur sniffling and pouting and the Totodile sulking with his back turned to them. Oh. They really had wanted to join Amiko, huh? But Amiko only seemed to want to take on one other pokemon for now - which was wise, being that they were a new trainer. Quint briefly considered inviting one of them to join their team, but that would leave one of them being rejected
twice, and Quint recently had a new addition to their team. Taking on another would bring them to a team of four, which Quint wasn't sure they could manage right before joining the Gym Challenge. Although... certainly there would be a trainer there who could?
Once again crouching to the small pokemon's level, Quint caught their attention before speaking gently. "If you want, I could try to find you both a trainer? I know a few people who are looking for some strong new pokemon." They offered. The two pokemon seemed to think for a moment, and Quint took this time to glance up to Amiko to make sure they were okay with the offer. Noticing their gaze, the Charizard nodded and smiled. Quint smiled back and returned their attention to the Totodile and the Bulbasaur.
"Well? What do you say?"
This time, both pokemon chirped in confirmation, smiling brightly. Quint grinned and stood. "Looks like we're on our way to Motosoke, then." They looked over to Amiko. "Ready?"
Amiko nodded and rumbled in confirmation, beaming. The Chingling on their shuolder laughed again, the sound like a thousand little bells. Warmth bloomed in Quint's chest. They decided right then and there that they would do their best to support these pokemon whenever they could. Maybe Amiko really
would become Galar's Champion. If that's what they wanted, Quint would be with them every step of the way.
