I nod as she tells me she is coming with me, my green eyes emotionless, showing no fear of the old city whatsoever. As long as we stay away from the borderline, we should be okay, right? Swishing my thick, ebony tail I break into a canter, neck arched, covering the ground quickly, yet gracefully. Well, as graceful as a horse like me can get anyway. My grace does not compare to the grace of a Warmblood, but I have my own way of covering ground that adds to my magnificence. Well, it did when I was younger, I probably don't look the same now, as my limbs are stiff and seems to show up worse in canter.
I slow back down into a trot as I take my first steps into the large, isolated city. Tall, grey buildings loom over me, looking so frail that one touch would send them all collapsing. I get the image of dominoes in my head, knocking the first building into the second, then into the third and so on. It would look pretty awesome, but I won't dare to do it, that would be destroying the only evidence of humans living on this planet. Nowhere else in the Light or the Dark side is there any sort of man-made objects. they have all rusted and decayed away years and years ago. Thinking of it, that sounds pretty strange, how they can all disappear without a trace, and leave this one city behind. Perhaps there was a natural disaster? Earthquake? A storm? Or maybe the horses that lived then helped with it's disappearance? Again, another question that nobody can answer.
I hear the distant thud on the ground, what must either be caused by something falling hard on the concrete floor, or a horse smashing their hoof on the floor. I have a feeling, a deep instinct within me, telling me it is probably the second one, as it sounds too quiet to be a brick or something falling. Are we that close to the borderline? I halt and squints my eyes into the distance, always having imagined the borderline as a dark wall or something. But looking at this city, it's more likely to be a crack in the floor, or something along them lines. I quietly walk on, edging away from the noise, not wanting to find out whether that was a horse or not.
I continue, walking down alleys, snorting, looking behind me every now and then to see if Sundance is following me. Is she afraid? Although I feel no real fear, the large buildings around us is doing a good job of intimidating me slightly. I have never seen anything like this in my life, and I can almost imagine back thousands of years ago when the human race was strong, I can imagine them walking in and out of these buildings, the streets crowded with people. Though I have never seen a human, I am guessing that they don't stand on four limbs, as many of the objects I see would need to be grabbed, and a mouth will not achieve that.
I hear the sound of the dying species of crows, and I skitter sideways a bit, ears flattening, the sound horrible and painful, unlike the happy singing of birds on the Light side. I stop suddenly as I leave an alley, ears perked forward. I notice a almost faint-ish sheet of light, and beyond that the city is darker than ever. I also notice a long crack on the floor, just as I predicted it to be. So this is the borderline. I step forward, not planning on crossing it, but curious about it. I walk right up to the sheet of light, mesmerised by it. My hoof lands millimetres away from the crack, and I stretch my nose out, touching the light, almost expecting it to burn or something. Of course nothing happens, but I step back anyway, not wanting my scent to drift off into any Dark horses passing by. I turn my head and glances at Sundance, wondering what she would make of this legendary borderline.
