Oakwing brought coronaheart the coughing chick

"Sorry, he doesn't seem to be hurt or sick in any way." Chirped Coronaheart. "He looks fine. Maybe he needs some water." She grabbed a leaf and scooped up the water from the tunnel at the edge of the den. She passed it to Oakwing.

Sandtail zoomed up to another flower, hovering in front of it.She was about to drink from it when she heard the angry chatter of a squirrel. The squirrel swatted the hummer away with its tail. Sandtail caught herself with a brief hover before going back to the flower, being stubborn. The squirrel jumped farther down the branch and tried to bite at Sandtail. The hummer zoomed over to the squirrel's back and landed on its shoulders. She tried to peck its neck like Rainwing had showed her earlier, but the squirrel bucked her off and pinned her to the branch. Trying to distract it, Sandtail stuck out her long tongue and lashed the mammal's nose with it before pulling it back inside her beak. The squirrel stubbornly stayed on top of her.

(Wow, long post is long. Basically, the squirrel realized that the birds prey on its kind and it can easily take on a hummingbird for revenge on the birds...genius squirrel is a genius.)

Wintertail let out a battle screech and sank her beak into the squirrel's fur.

[Nutheart]

The squirrel reared up, allowing Sandtail to escape and climb altitude for a divebomb. The more she did these divebombs, the more resistant she became to the pain in her beak...

Wintertail scraped her large talons down the creature's back.

[Nutheart]

Sandtail tucked in her wings, plunging fast and jabbing the mammal with her beak. It actually pierced the skin a little, and Sandtail tasted blood as she thrashed her head, trying to make the wound bigger.

Wintertail tried to help Sandtail and pecked its back with her sharp beak.

With a strong thrash, Sandtail managed to rip off some of its pelt, making the squirrel snarl with pain.
