Russetfur groaned with pain as ripples went down her side. "Aaagh!" She screeched and started panting heavily. Kits. Coming now. "Help!'' She yelped and grabbed a stick between her jaws. The stick splintered in her gaws as the first kit slid out. "Help me!"

From where she was standing near Brokenshadow, her eyes widened at the sight of Moonlily. "Moonlily?" She whispered before padding hesitantly forwards. At the former deputy's words, the medicine cat hung her head in grief. "Silverstar is dead. We held her vigil last night. Brokenshadow is leader now."

Russetfur sighed. She was exausted, but happy at her 3 female kits. "Rosekit.....Sandkit....Doekit...." She touched a ginger kit, a dusty brown kit, and a brown one that had small white dots on her back.

Moonlily perked her ears as Swiftsong started to talk to her, and opened her mouth in a joyful greeting before her now not-so-small world seemed to come crashing down. Silverstar, dead? The cat who had accepted her into the Clan, nurtured her, become a sort of mother? A wordless yowl of grief ripped out of the small white she-cat, a cry of anguish that came deep from her soul even as whimpers of pain joined the cry as she put her bad foot down. Her breathing ragged, and feeling kind of cold, Moonlily curled herself neatly together, paws in front of her, though her eyes were huge. "How?" she rasped, her voice tight.

Brokenshadow lashed his tail unhappily. "The traitor Sweetbreeze and her mate Hawkclaw killed her." He glared at Moonlily, not because she was mad at her, but because he was annoyed that he let Silverstar slip so easily. He should have known that the two cats would pull something cruel like this, but he never saw Sweetbreeze as the murdering type. "Moonlily, you go lay in Swiftsong's den...Swiftsong, you can tend to her wounds after we get back. I need my name now. The night is moving quickly." Without another word he trotted through the camp entrance.

Moonlily's hackles raised at the thought of being dismissed so easily by the seemingly current deputy. Her spine straightening and wrapping pride around her like a clock, Moonlily hissed and took after Brokenshadow with an awkward lope, catching up eventually, if not quickly. "What do you mean, you need your name now? I was once deputy here, and feel it is my right as well," she all but growled, her eyes glinting angrily, and her white tail lashing around, quite an unusual sight for the normally sweet cat.

The new leader flicked his ears at her. "I need to recieve my nine lives and name, Moonlily," he meowed, trying to keep himself calm, slowing down so she could catch up to him. He noticed she looked somewhat offended. "I apologize if I hurt your pride or your feelings," he added. "What do you mean, it's your right? What are you talking about?"

"You seem to forget, Brokenshadow, that I was deputy too." The bedraggled she- cat pulled herself intto a semblance of what she had looked like before, her head held high and her shoulders squared, almost as if she were ready to fight for the position. In her mind, she knew she was, but also knew that she couldn't. All the same, she didn't step down. "It's not like I chose to leave the Clan. I have as much right to lead, as a returning deputy, as you do, it seems."

Brokenshadow snorted. "First of all, you LEFT. I was made deputy when you left, and Silverstar and I lead the Clan together. We had...a special bond." He pushed away his emotions. "Second of all, you're in no shape to lead anything. Look at you, covered in blood and scabs, with a paw you can't even put on the ground. In this shape, I wouldn't even have you lead a border patrol. You're just going to hurt yourself more." He watched her square up and get ready to fight, but he sighed. "Moonlily, I understand if you're feeling tossed aside. Silverstar confessed to me that she felt guilty about appointing a new deputy after you left, but every one of us thought you were dead. You can't blame us for trying to stay strong." He stood up straight. "I've had a difficult time staying strong ever since Silverstar died. You see, she wasn't just my leader...she was my mate. But Sweetbreeze cut off that. And I plan to avenge her death." Brokenshadow glanced back at her, brow twitching.
