Ace looked up at her and said,"That was your past. My past haunts me too even if I did nothing. You just have to try to not think about it. As hard as it seems." He looked at her, giving her a weak smile.

I smiled back. "You're right." Changing the subject, I said, "I saw something odd today."

"What did you see?" he said, flicking his tail with interest.

"Well, I was looking at the water and a droplet was hanging over the water, perfectly still in midair. Then it fell to the water, but there were no ripples. A small . . . tube opened up and the drop fell in it." I looked at him.

"Was it an illusion? Or did it just happen?" he said, glancing at the lake, then back at Flame.

"Just now," I said. "A couple minutes ago."

Ace nodded and said,"It could be a sign or something..."

"Yeah . . . probably." I flicked my ear.

"Alright," I answered, standing up. I padded over to where the pack was gathered. Ash was smiling at Flash as if they were old hunting buddies, which they were.
